Importance Of Using EnFit Feeding Tubes
There have been multiple types of syringes used in medical history to ensure proper administration of drugs and other products required to improve health by addressing the primary source of concern. The issue of adequate syringe dead space has often been debated upon with no common consensus reached usually. The low dead space syringe has been decided to be the safest equipment to administer drugs into the body. This type of syringe has been approved for use in almost ass states across the nation for vaccination.
It is advisable for the person injecting the medicine or any other drug with the help f low dad space syringes to remain informed about the purpose of its design and benefits. It suffices to know that the amount of space between the hub of the syringe and the needle is limited to a great extent in a low volume dead space syringe.
It is interesting to note that the syringes conforming to high dead space designs have been in use traditionally. It is deemed to have a high volume of dead space depending on the quantity of fluid left behind that cannot be expelled despite adding force on the plunger. Although there is no specific quantity to corroborate with a high dead space designation, most conventional syringes have at least 84 microliters of liquid remaining within the syringe.
The need for deviating from the standard design of syringes was felt when the syringes with a high dead space were found to be associated with the following:-
· Wastage of expensive medical drugs
· Transmission of pathogens
· Fault in the calculation of the dosage
It comes as no surprise to find evidence of the deadly Hepatitis C being transmitted in individuals who inject themselves in an urge to satisfy drug dependence
Low Dead Space Syringe Designs
· Fixed Needle- The first low dead space syringe introduced for the general public was the insulin syringe. It had been created with the specific purpose of administering the correct dose of insulin medicine to the patient. It also helped to prevent the wastage of expensive drugs. It was no wonder to know that such syringes had to be fitted with a specially designed needle to ensure proper administration.
· Detachable Needle- The low dead space can also be obtained with a traditional syringe fitted with a unique detachable needle consisting of a plunger that can extend up to the neck of the syringe, thereby drawing more of the fluid out and administer it into the patient’s body.
The recent regulations introduced by the FDA make it mandatory to adhere to medical equipment standards to prevent misconnection and compromise the health of patients. An ENFit syringe that corroborates with the low dead space design is connected to ENfit feeding tubes to administer liquid medication to the patient. The FDA has provided further guidance by suggesting that the syringes should be marked individually with different equipment for feeding and administering medication.
