If it's always QuanYin week in my heart, it isn't a late submission, right?
For day 7, I decided that I wanted to write something about lanterns. You see, months ago (holy fuck, time flies!), when @sobanvallion posted this stunning artwork it did something to my soul. I've been mulling on it since that day, and only when I was planning what to write for QuanYin week did I finally found my answer on what I do, to somehow reflect what it means to me.

This is not my last submission for the event. But the fic for days 3 & 5 will arrive quite late :'D I will still shamelessly tag it as a QuanYin Week fic, whenever it gets posted xD But it's probably going to take a while. Which is probably better for everyone because that one will be sadness galore.

quanyin week 2026 conclusion post (personal thoughts and such)
it was a great pleasure to participate in this event; i've gotten to see many wonderful fics and artworks centered around quanyin and became inspired to work on several of my aus. everyone was definitely very creative with interpreting the prompts, and there were many formats/mediums involved, with many many different takes. i'll be catching up on reading the fics and commenting on them, but for now a blanket thank you to all quanyin week creators and viewers/readers for the very nice atmosphere spread all throughout the event <3

comic layouts are not my forte, but nevertheless here it is, the sixth prompt that took me two continuous days of drawing to complete
technically this could be a soulmates au, but other than the red string this is very much canon-flavored quanyin

additional notes under the cut (because i've spent too much time and nerves on this to just. upload it. without sharing at least some of my thought process):
the characters overlapping with the qi ying speech bubbles are 奇英, the chinese-language version of the title
the large text is 权一真，你怎么不去死呢？which is taken from the tgcf chinese-language text and translates to "quan yizhen, why don't you go die?", aka the exact phrase which sets off quan yizhen trying to kill himself when wearing the brocade immortal :))
please note the fractured red string coming across his throat in the mimicry of a wound :)
while the other instances of quan yizhen's armor in the comic are simplified and handwavey, this exact one (aka the brocade immortal) is loosely based on 10th/11th century song dynasty generals' armor
parallelling the "did you hear? the west now has two gods" from the first page, but at the same time opposing that meaning-wise – the gods respect quan yizhen as qi ying, while the ghosts here fear yin yu as waning moon officer
"yin yu is no more" – dare i repeat identity issues :)
waning moon almost enveloping quan yizhen's figure is just me being rightfully poetic about them
the use of "shixiong" here is me conveying that to quan yizhen it doesn't matter if the other is martial god yin yu or waning moon officer; shixiong is shixiong, and that's all there is to it
the lapels are purposefully drawn vague here so that it would be unclear whether they're left-over-right (han custom for the living) or right-over-left (han custom for the dead) :))
"strength and luck" is very much my disguised nod at quan yizhen and hua cheng respectively, as two very important people to yin yu (smiles in multishipper and huayin enjoyer)
this is the first time that they're facing each other in this comic (and that is intentional)
the first and the last line of the comic are the same :)
yin yu's collar is right-over-left (ghost), quan yizhen's is left-over-right (human)
when drawing the flowers prompt, it clicked for me that quan yizhen is very banbi-coded (banbi 半臂 is a short-sleeve shirt/jacket with many variations of different collars/lapels). so here quan yizhen is specifically wearing a duijin (parallel-collar) dark brown banbi (and the robe underneath is the most unsaturated out of all his fits in the comic, because depression time sadly awaiting shixiong's return time, no energy for bright colors)
I made in it time!! I wanted to do something fun for quanyin week, so I made a printable box for anyone to use freely. This is a late submission for day 5: gifts. I'm happy I could post something before the week ends.

originally this was supposed to be an artwork of calamity au quanyin in fancy (& dramatically billowing) calamity robes. the comic for the sixth prompt, however, did not agree with that, so this is instead a simpler (and more experimental) artwork. i really like how desaturated it came out
key points from the au (will be making a more detailed post in the future):
quan yizhen does die during the brocade immortal scene;
yin yu's temples are burned by the heavens;
jian yu meddles with both their souls, but at different points in time;
quan yizhen becomes a calamity first;
yin yu spends the major part of tgcf either running away from quan yizhen or fighting him (classic quanyin);
hua cheng and he xuan quietly plot in the background
as for this artwork, quanyin calamity titles are written out in white:
quan yizhen: 锐晖追月, ruihui zhuiyue, sharp sun chasing moon (sharp sun for short)
the 翻改 remaking clothes part has a lot of rebirth/rejection of old self connotations, and i'll be talking a lot about it when i do get around to making a longer post. for now, please trust that there's a lot of lore and fancy terminology involved

modern cultivation au quanyin with matching yaopei (腰佩, waist ornaments) because i felt like drawing some hanyuansu/xinzhongshi fits
yin yu's collar is right-over-left in the han funerary custom because of him being a ghost (either literally or figuratively due to his position as waning moon officer). the writing on his badge/talisman says 鬼市 ("ghost city")
quan yizhen has 天 ("sky"/"heaven") and 西 ("west") as his pins. his other ones represent the upper heavenly court and his status as a martial god
the flowy drapes are very loosely inspired by the mamianqun skirt (马面裙) for yin yu and the baidiequn skirt (百迭裙) for quan yizhen

i have to admit that I had a blast working on this when the bad brain subsided. writing smut is so fucking fun (no pun intended) + getting to write new dyamics and ideas is what i enjoy the most when i write my fics.
