"You wouldnāt dare. Weād have to throw a funeral, and nobody wants to plan that sort of thing."
No one would show up except for you and your right hand.
"Youāre awesome."Ā
I don't even try.
Adam couldnāt contain the grin once Isis gave him her infamous look. āYou know that doesnāt work on me,ā he sighed, shaking his head. āAnd Arthur would be totally content living by himself. Such a loner, that one. Yelling, huh? We both know I wouldnāt mind that. It wouldnāt be the first time youāve screamed my name.ā
"I guess we'd both be screaming. Because who said the head I was talking about was gonna be your noggin'?"
"Rude, Queenie." Adam pouted at the expression on her face. He didĀ not sound like a dying cat, did he? Oh, for fuckās sake, he couldnāt tell. He knew his singing voice was rubbish and that was it. Heād never actually tried to record his voice to hear himself becauseĀ obviously that would be too painful. āYou know what that means, though, right? One day youāll have to accept me into your life.ā
Isis gave Adam a look, one that she was sure he could read in a heartbeat. "Did you just call me Queenie?" Out of everything he had said, she had held on to that part. "You better watch yourself, Mr. Mernick. Otherwise I'll be yellin' off with ya head and Arthur will just have to live by himself."
"Good thing I asked first then huh?"Ā
"I mean, unless of course youāre into that kinda thing. You arenāt are you? Sorry, I do that. I had to ask. It was out there okay? I couldnāt stop my mouth when my brain already thought it." He giggled.Ā
Keep talkin' and you won't have a tongue, sugar.
"Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful, and since weāve no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!" Adam had barely realized that he was singing along to the radio until he felt all pairs of eyes on him at the clothing store. With his hand wrapped around a maroon scarf that had been calling his name all day, he promptly bit on his lip and shifted his gaze away from those staring at him. His cheeks stayed their natural color and his outward appearance otherwise gave no proof that heād embarrassed himself, but the inner turmoil inside of his head was raging. Adam Mernick didnāt sing in public ā not when his singing voice was positively horrendous to the ears and not when his reputation was so high. He clutched onto the scarf and added another item to his cart, if only to act like he hadnāt just sang the worldās worst rendition of āLet It Snowā.
"Adam, y'know how I feel about cats. Now can you imagine my surprise when I ran in here, expecting one to be wailing and dying, only to find you and your dumb ass holding a scarf and singing instead of dying?"
"Letās just hope you donāt have nightmares about it."
"Oh."
There've been worse.
"That may freak me out, might, just a little. haha. I like the way you talk. Do I get to call you sugar back without getting slapped?"Ā
No, you'd get slapped to next week.Ā
Somethin' funny?
"Well, now Iām getting a clearer picture painted. Iām Tristan by the way."Ā
Isis. And you don't want no clearer a picture than that, sugar. Arthur would have enough fun to last him a week with that.
"Then please," she said. "Do spare me the details." Lallie had a glance around their surroundingsā quick, casual. "Say, you want to go somewhere where not even the sound can reach it? If I hear one more āOh, Godā Iāll be convinced one of them is an angel."
"You sure? I could tell ya one thing, there are some things that hang, but they shouldn't be hangin' that low." Isis looked more relieved than anything, quickly walking in the opposite direction of the place, "Even God wouldn't want to be watchin' that nasty shit."
Amy? Nah, sheās okay.
But Dalia, on the other hand, is the biggest bitch Iāve ever met.
I'd love to witness y'alls Thanksgiving or Christmas party.
"And I thought your kind was immune to this kind of thing." Lallie didnāt have to take a peek to know what the succubus was talking about. Truly, it seemed like the entire neighborhood was be able to hear the noises coming from behind the closed doors. It was a wonder sheād accidentally seen it in the first place.
"The sound is one thing, it's the visual that's worse." Truthfully, there had to be some kind of class for Isis, and what laid behind that door was far from it.
"Because it was too hot for you to handle or because it was a barely a half a star rating kinda movie thing? Your face looks disgusted which is why Iām really curious."Ā
That half a star rating sounds about right. Though when ya sag t'your knees, nothin' is a pretty sight.
You should. Heās my second most irritating sibling.
Dare I ask who the first is?
Though Amy seems like a good guess.
"An employee of hell, horrified? Must not be a good employee ā you realize youāre supposed to be the scarer not the scared right?"
Scared and horrified ain't the same thing.
