I just wanted to point out how I am really bothered by this fandom divide with has occurred lately. About a year ago this fandom used to always be enjoyable to be in and I would always value conversing with new people. The fact that I was a Joan Ferguson fan was irrelevant. Now it seems, we’ve had a post-season 4 fandom divide.
This has included people throwing around insults, personal jibes and honestly pure nastiness because of someone’s favourite.
The thing is, I don’t really give a fuck if fans of wentworth don’t like Joan as a character, I can see why some fans may not. But at the end of the day, is it fair that me and my fellow Joan fans should have to endure hate and nastiness from members of the fandom for backing and, simply having a favourite that’s not what everyone’s into?
To be honest, Joan Ferguson is an acquired taste. Not everyone’s going to like her, that’s impossible. But why does there have to be so much fandom hating on us because we simply love that character.
We get called trolls and all sorts of other petty and stupid names for sticking up for and defending our favourites when shit seems to hit the fan. At the end of the day, Wentworth is only fiction and people should not have to endure all this shit, it’s a fucking TV drama.
Just because I’m a Joan fan is not reflection on me and does not mean any of us parallel with her traits in real life. Some people have said we get off over rape/non con and abuse. And how we condone Joan’s actions. We are also the trolls of the fandom. But guess what, every character in wentworth has to have some flaws. And you’ve accepted your favourite and their flaws.
We have Bea who’s originally in prison for attempted murder, not for a bad haircut as some of you may think. She then went on to kill another 2 people and torture others. She has also induced lots of unnecessary punishments to people as a top dog, and fucked up liz’s parole for getting her to look after the gun she used to kill Braden with. Yet you still back this character right?
We have Franky, originally in prison for serious GBH when she threw boiling oil over the man. She then went on to traffic drugs into the prison, causing people to come close to suicide and multiple OD’s. Also the fact that she left that Korean girl to die just for the chance that she may be able to get the bags of heroin out of her. Not to mention the violence she induced in being a top dog.
And we have Allie, a drug addicted prostitute in prison for being part of a vigilante group going around killing men. And you still back her right?
See, all your favourites have flaws. So stop giving us shit for accepting those flaws in our character just like you have. I’m sick of it.
