however quiet and docile john seemed upon first glance, it was no secret that john’s words could hold violence. despite his quiet demeanor, john carried his own weight and strength; no one could belittle him, least of all brian.
over the course of their relationship, brian and john were no strangers to quarrels and bickering. tpyically, the issue could resolve itself with quick apologies and soft words of reassurance, but this argument prompted little reward or any sign of reconciliation.

john, however much smaller, towered in front of brian in that moment.
“john, just -”
“shut up,” john hissed, crossing his arms in front of his chest. “all you do is talk on and on. will you just shut up?” john’s anger began to bubble and overpower the space between them, the room growing more and more heated with each second that passed. “you don’t frighten me. you never have, and you never will.”
“for fuck’s sake, john. stop your bloody whining and screaming. you’re acting like a child.” brian snarled, standing tall in front of john, not backing down from the smaller man’s angry and hostile advances.
“i am the one who’s whining and screaming? please, brain, i can give you a real reason to scream.” john’s voice was laced with anger, heavy and heady.
brian’s mouth opened in slight surprise, trying to formulate something to say in rebuttal, but brian quickly clamped it shut.
the space between brian and john closed, growing smaller and smaller as time ticked away. the air was heavy as neither man spoke, tension growing as they grew closer.
“prove it.”
