Speaking of quentin's design and phoenix stuff I need to confess that I really dig his phoenix look at the end of volume one of wolverine and the x - men. if the space guy fieri has no fan then I'm dead

i think it looks goofy af in a way that makes perfect sense for my beloved qq. yeah he WOULD have gauges. it's also very gendery in a fun yet sort of elusive way.

oh my god yeah i HATE that shit, it is NOT canon to me. fuck you ben he already had a perfect backstory with a tragic inciting incident, it happened on-page when he was 16! also dyeing his hair pink was a whole important character beat so why the FUCK would he be a BABY with PINK HAIR!!!!! (punches a wall) okay i'm calm now. yeah that's not real at all.

i hc that quentin had a very boring, suburban, middle-class childhood with parents who were fine but rather distant. since a young age, he felt that they didn't really like or feel connected to him, and he felt the same. he's really tried to just pretend his life/childhood before he came to xavier's never happened and it wasn't important. all that unsatisfyingly-fine yet unloved-feeling upbringing had no effect on him and if you imply otherwise he's gonna pull an embarrassing secret out of your brain and say it really loud.

i don't really have headcanons abt quentin's bio parents; i think he thinks of those people rarely and just. they're strangers to him. he has no reason to care or wonder about them at all. after all, he's a genius, he's an omega-level mutant, he has all the m&ms and negative attention he could ever want. and that's just one of the reasons he behaves so normal

thoughts on quentin's relationship to the phoenix? i feel like every quentin fan has their own take lol

i have a lot of thoughts but one of them is how in a major way even though she was still alive for the first couple years he was at xavier's jean grey Majorly Haunts The Narrative for quentin. everyoneee particularly the older men in charge of quentin he's always trying to impress/provoke/save/escape from is hung up on her, from morrison nxm charles to wolverine (wolverine) to scott summers in his current adjectiveless x-men! and so is the phoenix force, even though SHE'S not his headmaster or parole officer or anything. so in a way i think he feels like he can't measure up, or doesn't even know where to begin trying-- his storylines are so often about kind of messy unsuccessful teenage attempts at independence, self-determination, and getting clobbered with the Phoenix's Second Choice* stick is kind of just ANOTHER getting flagged with a powerful mutation at a young age. like, how do you even grow up with that looming over your future? (and we see with future!phoenix!quentin how he rejects it!)

so the phoenix is both good and bad to his ego, i think. it's an important part of his character and narrative. it's another brick in the wall of Quentin Quire's Nebulous But Clearly Something Gender/Sexuality Situation. idk what to say about it other than i think its neat!

*"Second" okay well yes the phoenix did also go into hope, and scott, and emma etc at various times. i think everyone is basically a second choice to the phoenix except for jean who is Most Phoenix Favorite Forever Never To Be Let Go That's Me That's My Soul. so

these r such good juicy questions tysm!!! as for favorite quentin panel oooh it's so hard to pick i'll do a compilation later... as for favorite artist, i honestly think there's different stuff i like for all of them! but my favorites are quitely's Extremely Tense Original Flavor Quentin is endearingly pathetic (as in evoking of pathos but also frankly the other kind) and palpably textured. bachalo watxm quentin is sooo cute and pointy, i love bachalo's JGS stuff in general i feel like it's really expressive and cuties and goes great with the narrative tone. boschi alpha & omega quentin is REALLY angular and angsty and off-putting which i love also. i thoroughly reject blue-eyed quentin No He Doesn't Have Those.

except for greg land quentin ALL MY HOMIES HATE GREG QUENTIN. like who IS that, if he's brunette he shouldn't have the mohawk and he CERTAINLY shouldn't be buff.

THANK YOU INQUIRING MINDS... funnily enough i am writing a fic about this but it boils down to: put up 10000 psi-defenses and then lie there (possibly in a pile of unwashed graphic tees) and overthink. flick through the mental rolodex and remember getting skewered by wolverine and stuff. the action on the physical plane is less important than his elaborate, convoluted mental activities.

we've discussed that he is Kid Death Grip and he is jerking it sort of uncomfortably but i think it bears repeating. definitely would use spit for lube in the grips of laziness and self hate but i do think he would #Judge someone else if he saw them doing that lol. i think sticking anything up his ass would have to be Instigated by something and be a Whole Thing like i just don't think he could start experimenting with that chill style.
