WHEN MADISON decided to dress up as a zombie for halloween , she had initially thought it to be funny. she felt that the fact that she spent the last decade trying to survive alongside them made it ironic considering their sudden disappearance from her life. however , now that she’s actually wearing the costume , she doesn’t really see the humor in it. the makeup weighs heavily on her face , her hair feels greasy & generally unkempt from where it frames her face , & considering how much effort it’s now taking to move her limbs , she’s guessing that her outfit is heavier than it appears. however , the thoughts of her discomfort fade away as the night continues , being replaced by the gradually increasing urge to try & sink her teeth into someone’s skull. she doesn’t even realize where her mind has wandered until she hears the other speak up. she doesn’t immediately register the words , but when they process , she stops dragging herself across the sidewalk & chooses to instead fall into a sitting position near the man. ❝ i don’t think so , ❞ she answers , almost surprised by her own truthful response. ❝ which is weird … do you think we should try it though ? ❞
As Quentin spoke aloud, he heard a stranger settle onto the curb next to him. He slowly turned to see a young woman who looked nearly as disheveled as he knew he must look. Although her tone carried a hint of surprise as she answered his question, her actual words settled some of the vague discomfort that had been rolling in his stomach. If she didn’t think that eating people was bad... maybe it would be alright. He had to take a moment to think over her suggestion. Try it, she’d said. Testing it out sounded... good. “Makes sense to try it together,” he finally agreed with a nod, before glancing down the sidewalk towards the few groups of people in the distance, lit by the glow of the street lamps. “How do we choose who....?” After all, there were lots of potential meals to pick from. Everyone was out and about, it seemed.
