This trip is quick. Cucurucho escorts Chayanne out first, teleporting him to the Wall. A few feet across from the house its counterpart took two of their family from. It lets Asha say goodbye as it then escorts them back to the Federation building.

Their turn, for a little family reunion.

Cucurucho kisses her temple as it holds her close to its shoulder. It's making its way up to its partner's office.

The travel up to the new office triggered some memories in its systems, an uncomfortable feeling that it'd never tell him even if he noticed. It doesn't feel afraid in this hallway, despite everything. Cucurucho just feels safer now.

When it reaches the door, it stops right before, having a one to one with Asha first.

"Are you alright, dear?" Cucurucho asks.

"You-" Her tiny voice wavers and cracks. She's talking slowly, but she keeps cutting herself off, unable to really execute any solid ideas as she wipes her long-dried but now red and puffy eyes. "I thought you'd c-come to get me, and you didn't, but- but someone- I was...."

She shakes her head and buries her face in her hands. "I-I'm-mmm- mmm. I'm really happy you're back. It was r-really hard."

"I know." Cucurucho nods solemnly. They press their snout against her temple and sigh. "I'm sorry, Asha. I wanted to, but I wasn't allowed."

"I won't leave you alone this time, I promise hija." They say, walking over to the door and knocking. "We promise."

Cucurucho opens the door, just enough that they'd be the only one visible. "Hi sugar. You have a visitor."

Pato immediately hops to his feet. “Is she here?” he asks softly, perched on his toes by his desk.

He doesn’t know why he’s so hesitant. He’s in charge now. “B-bring her in,” he says, loosening his tie. “Is she-”

"Right here." Rucho says softly, stepping inside with their daughter in its arms. It nudges its head against her.

"Say hi."

She's tiny and weak in Rucho's arms. She turns and looks at Jeremy with big, wide eyes full of disbelief. That disbelief shifts into the deepest form of relief.

"Hi." She whispers, then turns and extends her arms.

Pato beams. He can't even feel his legs and feet move in his blur of joy, he's just standing by his desk one moment and in the next he's by Cucurucho's side and pulling Asha into his arms.

"THERE you are, THERE'S my girl!" he exclaims. He presses a kiss to her forehead, then her cheek, then hugs her tight. He combs one hand through her hair to hold her head and sways gently back and forth, murmuring into her scalp. "Welcome home, Asha. Oh, it's so good to see you."

He presses another kiss right into her hairline. "I'm sorry we couldn't get to you sooner, peanut. You were so brave," he whispers. "We've got you, we've got you now."

She wants to cry. She wants to cry, and tears bubble up and slip, and it's weird because she thought she had been all out of tears. But then her dad is holding her and she's so scared she's going to wake up alone in a white room, and he's placing kisses into freshly buzzed hair and over puffy sore skin and she can't help it.

She doesn't know how long this was going to last. She doesn't know if the world will shake again and if she'll go back outside or get put back in a room. She does know, though, that right now her fingers are curling into cloth and she's real and he's real and that's really, really important.

"I m-missed you," she quietly manages to stumble out, her brain putting a block between her thoughts and mouth, forcing her to take it slow as she buries herself as close to him as possible and cries. It's all she has. She cries.

"We missed you too, baby. We missed you so much."

Jeremy glances at Cucurucho, then tilts his head towards his new couch. It came with the office, nestled between two bookshelves. Swaying gently, he carries Asha over and has a seat, gently petting her hair as she cries.

"I'm so sorry, Asha," he murmurs with more kisses to her forehead, hairline, cheeks. "I'm sorry you had to be so brave for so long."

His chest is heavy with guilt. If he'd just checked those reports first...if she'd just been with Pepito and Sunny and Em in jail...there's a million little moments that might've freed her so much sooner. Tears well up in his eyes as he holds her. "God, I'm never putting you down," he sniffles.

Rucho shuts the door behind them as they follow in suit. They keep smiling, a delighted and warm grin on their face. They give a lovely laugh at their partner.

"I don't think either of us will." Rucho says, sitting beside them. They kiss both of their temples, sighing when they hold Asha's face gently. "Ohh honey, we're so glad you're here."

They refuse to cry because if they start, they will bawl profusely. But they are close.

Rucho mimics clearing their throat.

"Can- Can we talk about the arrangement? I mean, she's already 'imprinted' on us both, but..."

Jeremy looks up gently at his partner, then down at his at Asha.

"We will," he says. "But I think we should let her rest first." He stares down into her little face, all furrowed and exhausted and teary. "Look at her, love, she's been through a lot. Our poor baby; our brave, brave baby."

He kisses Asha on the forehead again, lips lingering there as he breathes her in. He wants to keep his face pressed up against her own little soft baby face forever, just feeling skin on skin. He gently rubs her head, massaging her scalp in a way that his own child had used to like all those years ago.

"We should let her cry and rest and give her something to eat. We can answer any questions she has, and then when she's good and ready we'll talk about everything she didn't ask. We're not in a hurry, don't worry," he assures Rucho, reaching up with his other hand to rub their cheek. Asha has him touch-drunk.

She's got this ache-y feeling in her chest and her eyes burn real bad. He's got hands rubbing over her head and her cheeks and his lips on her forehead and it's a lot more than she's ever had, really. They weren't even like this last time. But it feels really good. Being held like this makes her feel good, curled into his chest. She feels a lot better and a lot less cold, wings and tail limp, hands curled into her chest and body pressed as much as she can against him.

They talk about her. She's used to that. And she tries to listen, somewhat, but she's a little absorbed in being close to the two of them. "I- Mmmm, mm-mmm. I'mmm- done crying. All done." She clarifies for them in that dumb stumble-y way, like her tongue is too big for her mouth, wiping her face against Jeremy's shoulder until her face is dry. And she lied, a little bit, because more tears escape, but she's almost done, so it counts.

Cucurucho hums, rubbing against his hand with their face. They give it a little kiss before looking over at Asha.

"Take your time. We can talk about it later." They pat her back, then this time turn to Jeremy again.

"Do you think we should take her home first? I know you might be really busy, but you can take a break for us, right?"

Pato looks at his computer and clicks his tongue. Mentally, he categorizes all of the stuff he still has to do.

“Yeah,” he says slowly, nodding. “Yeah, I can take a break.”

He looks down at Asha and smiles. “They put me in charge of the island,” he explains, like he’s telling her a secret, “and the first thing I did was officially change your status to adoptee.”

It’s true. He’s been doing a lot of preparation, but this was his first official act as island head. He submitted the updates to her records the second the Bureau left his office.

“Nobody’s allowed to call you A-1 or make you do tests anymore,” he says. He cups her face and wipes some tears away with his thumb. “You’re officially Asha, babygirl. How about that, huh?”

"That's-" It doesn't feel real. He feels real. She's so overwhelmed. It makes sense but it doesn't. None of this made sense. "That's super... super duper awesome." Her voice comes out wobbly and confused, and she doesn't mean it to, but it's awful and amazing and so so scary. She's always been A1, just as much as she's been Asha. The last time they said no more tests, they lied.

She's so happy. She's so apprehensive about feeling happy, though. Her face scrunches up bad and her lip wobbles. "I'm confused..."

“Hey, hey, that’s okay,” says Pato gently. “You’re okay. It’s a lot, isn’t it?”

She nods, her entire body shuddering as she breathes in to calm down and rubs a little fist against her eye. She doesn't say anything, just sniffling.

Cucurucho rubs her back, then they stand up, offering their partner a paw. "Alright. Let's go home for a bit."

When he takes it, Cucurucho brings them all over to a warp plate, easily sending the three of them to their house. They clap, pleased with the new addition to their household.

"Welcome home, baby." They greet Asha. "It's not much yet, but I think you could add a bit of color to it when we're not looking." Cucurucho giggles.

Her stomach flips from the warp. It feels a lot like that crystal she used to have, and the displacement still makes her dizzy. And when she opens her eyes again...

It's normal. Well- it's a house, like she sees on screens and from the outside people, but it's nothing like hers. And it's kind of empty. Cucurucho backs that up immediately, too, and she can't help but nod.

She immediately starts crying again. "I- hhhhhu, I l-love it..."

"I know." They nod. Cucurucho looks over at Jeremy expectantly with arms open, mainly as a suggestion. "Can I hold her? Or do you want to bring her upstairs?"

"I have to go back to work soon," says Pato softly. "I wanna hold her while I can."

He rocks gently from side to side as he walks her around the house, up the stairs and into the bedroom that he and Rucho have been sharing.

"This is where your Mama and I sleep," he says softly. "There are more rooms, so you can have one of your own if you want. But you can also sleep with us, if you'd like.

"I wanna," She says immediately, without hesitation. Why ever would she choose to be locked alone in a room by herself when her... parents are- when they're right there? Why would she ever do that again?

Pato grins. "I was hoping you'd say that," he teases, nuzzling into her cheek with his nose. "...Do you want to stop and hang out in here with me and your mama for a bit? A whole lot's happening really fast, and we don't need to explore this whole big house at once. It's not going anywhere."

Her fingers curl into his shirt, and finally he manages to worm a little giggle from her throat at the nuzzling. It's wet and scratchy and heavy, but she's happy. "Yeah- Yeah. Yes please." She looks up for her mama, leaning ever so slightly to find them in the room. Big, wide eyes stare the bot down, before she blinks fat tears away. "Please?"

"Of course, honey." Osito coos. They beam wide at her, putting their paws on their hips. "I'll be with you the whole day, which of course means I'll have to clock out earlier.." They scratch the back of their head.

"I mean, it's no trouble really when my boss is right here." They tease, bumping their hip with Jeremy. Osito cups Asha's face, leaning over to pepper her in kisses. "Ohhh my baby... I'm going to spoil you so much..."

She sniffles, then giggles. Fur tickles at her face, bubbling little bits of laughter from her tiny body. "Yay!"

Jeremy sits with them for a bit, happy to snuggle and talk softly with Asha until she falls asleep on their laps, tuckered out from emotional exhaustion. Rucho takes her to the bed to nap with her, like the big cuddly teddy bear they are, and Jeremy tucks both of them in. He presses kisses to both of their cheeks, then walks out and closes the door slowly and silently.

Once it's closed, he sighs and leans his head against it, his smile fading. After a moment, he takes a deep breath, straightens up, and walks back towards the stairs, tightening his tie again.

Back to work.

Hey hon, two things.

The Bureau took Asha back into custody a couple of weeks ago. Yeah. BEFORE you had that “weird” conversation with BBH.

It hasn’t hurt her, and it made several changes to the experimentation process to keep her safe, but she is very much back in the basement.

I explained that there’s no point to experimenting on her anymore and it agreed. You’re good to go get her and ask who she wants to stay with. Can you take care of that? And take Chayanne home while you’re at it, please.
