    HIS  SMILE  IS  FOXISH  when  quin  loosens  their  grip  on  his  wrists.   he  cannot  deny  that  it  sounds  TEMPTING  to  take  them  up  on  that  offer.   it’s  been  some  time.   but  in  this  moment  he  wants  to  WIN,   that  can  be  fore  LATER  if  they’re  both  still  up  for  it.   ❝  that  can  be  arranged—   that  is,   if  you’re  still  up  for  it  after  this.  ❞   and  with  that,   he  pulls  his  hands  away  from  quin’s  and  uses  the  force  to  push  them  off  of  him.   he  leaps  to  his  feet  and  calls  the  lightsaber  he’d  dropped  when  they  began  their  grapple  back  to  his  hand  along  with  quinlan’s  so  they  might  not  try  anything  else.   he  ignites  it  and  points  it  to  quinlan’s  neck,   out  of  breath,   misplaced  hairs  stuck  to  his  face.   he’s  still  smiling,   confidently  so.   he  does  so  like  to  win   ❝  you  really  shouldn’t  let  your  guard  down  like  that,   my  dear.   do  you  yield?  ❞   (  there  is  something  always  so  SATISFYING  in  winning—   he  should  not  take  pleasure  in  it,   and  yet  he  does.  )   there  he  is,   obi - wan  kenobi,   jedi  knight  and  warrior.

     THEY  SUPPOSE  THIS  IS  earned ;  they  probably  should  have  actually  thought  out  what  his  strategy  might  have  been .  obi - wan  has  never  been  above  fighting  dirty ,  and  this  was  definitely  unfair .  although  ---  they  can't  really  complain ,  can  they ?  obi - wan  kenobi ,  victorious  and  confident ,  disheveled  and  breathing  heavily ,  staring  down  at  them  as  they  lie ,  winded ,  on  the  ground .  .  .  well ,  it  is  truly  a  sight  to  behold .  (  is  it  just  them ,  or  is  it  slightly  warmer  than  it  should  be ?  they're  feeling  a  bit  warm  about  the  face .  )  they  raise  themself  so  they're  resting  on  their  elbows ,  and  look  back  up  at  obi - wan ,  a  smile  playing  about  their  lips .    ❝  yeah ?  and  what  if  i  don't  yield ?  what  would  you  do  then ,  man ?  ❞    oh ,  they  both  know  who's  won  this  bout  ---  but  it's  still  fun  to  prod   at  him .

“i changed palpatine’s name in the mainframe to a … word daddy says i’m never allowed to repeat ever again,” she said, shrugging out of her school pack and hanging it up neatly by the door. she glanced around making sure they were the only people in the room before she decided to trust quinlan with the word. running over she whispered in their ear, “fucker.” before she scrambled up on the couch, and sat next to them, “but it’s only because i heard daddy call him that first! he said, i can’t believe that old fucker came from a planet as beautiful as naboo!” she’d never been to naboo, she’d never even seen the emperor outside of holos. but she knew he was the worst evil in the whole galaxy. she knew he scared her father, even if he didn’t admit it. but he didn’t scare her. “i got kicked out, so i can’t ever go back. but that’s okay, who wants to go to a dumb old school that likes the empire anyways. not me.”

     THERE  IS  A  BEAT  of  silence ,  and  then  they  burst  into  laughter ,  throwing  an  arm  around  her  and  mussing  her  hair .  it's  wholly  unsurprising  that  this  is  what  finally  got  her  kicked  out  ---  or  that  she  did  it  in  the  first  place .  they  are  marginally  worried ,  of  course ,  that  she'll  attract  the  attention  of  the  fucker  in  question ,  but  that  isn't  something  she  should  be  concerned  with .  not  this  young .  and  besides ,  they  find  her  attitude  refreshing .  (  they  can't  spend  their  every  waking  moment  in  fear ;  there  has  to  be  some  hope  that  one  day  they  can  end  the  horrors  of  the  empire .  )  (  and  the  older  leia  gets ,  the  more  quinlan  feels  that  she  is  going  to  be  a  force  to  be  reckoned  with .  in  all  areas ,  of  course ,  but  in  this  one  specifically .  )  a  conspiratorial  grin .    ❝  well ,  kid ,  they  don't  know  what  they're  missing  out  on .  ❞    they  ruffle  her  hair  once  more  and  then  release  her .    ❝  if  they  can't  handle  your  vandalism  of  school  property ,  they  don't  deserve  you .  ❞    it's  not  like  the  empire’s  propaganda  was  working  on  her  anyway  ---  not  like  it  could ,  given ,  well ,  everything  about  her ,  and  the  adults  in  her  life .

he  observes  the  offered  hand .     there’d  been  a  time  when  he’d  thought  himself  too  holy  to  shake  hands  with  commoners ,     with  non  -  sith .     𝚋𝚞𝚝  𝚝𝚒𝚖𝚎  𝚒𝚗  𝚝𝚑𝚎  𝚞𝚗𝚍𝚎𝚛𝚐𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚗𝚍  𝚑𝚊𝚜  𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚎𝚍  𝚑𝚒𝚖 .     and  sometimes  business  requires  it .     he  does ,     at  last ,     pulling  back  as  soon  as  possible ,     smug  yet  careful  eyes  not  leaving  the  stranger’s  form .     they  carry  themselves  in  a  way  that  reminds  him  of  a  much  familiar  entity  he  loathes …     and  at  the  same  time   —–   𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚢  𝚍𝚘  𝚗𝚘𝚝 .     so  he  relaxes  just  a  bit .     “   𝙝𝙤𝙬  𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 .   ”     tattooed  lips  twist  into  a  grim  smirk .     “   i  have  another  contact  with  that  same  family  name .     a  good  omen ,     i  hope .   ”     

     HIS  WORDS  CHILL  THEM .  their  smile  remains  in  place  as  if  cemented  there ,  and  it  takes  them  a  moment  to  remember  to  breathe .  they  are  not  quinlan  vos ,  a  jedi  master .  they  are  korto  vos ,  and  they  are  a  nobody .  simply  another  contact  in  the  underworld  ---  but  hopefully  one  that  will  prove  useful .  an  eyebrow  lifts  and  they  carefully  school  their  expression  to  one  of  detached  interest .    ❝  that  so ?  i  haven't  seen  another  vos  around  these  parts .  ❞    the  force  their  body  to  relax ;  they  have  a  funny  feeling  that  they  must  never  give  this  man  cause  to  doubt  that  they  are  who  they  say  they  are .    ❝  hopefully  this  will  prove  fortuitous  for  us  both .  ❞    their  emphasis  on  that  last  will ,  they  assume ,  serve  to  remind  him  that  they  aren't  helping  simply  to  help  ---  in  the  underworld ,  everyone  is  out  for  themself .  they  must  prove  to  be  no  different ,  if  he  is  to  trust  them .  (  and  they  feel  that  his  trust  could  be  a  matter  of  life  and  death .  )

    HE  EXHALES  SHARPLY  when  he’s  pushed  back,   his  eyes  slamming  shut.   he  struggles  under  quinlan’s  weight  and  grip  on  his  wrists  but  ultimately  relaxes,   resting  his  head  against  the  ground  as  his  chest  heaves  from  the  exertion  of  the  bout.   he  tries  not  to  smile,   he  really  does.   he  can’t  help  it.   he  cracks  and  eye  open  and  peers  up  at  them.   he  hates  how  attractive  he  finds  them  when  they’re  like  this.   oh  no,   he  wants  to  say  to  their  prior  comment,   i  much  rather  like  this  position  more.   but  he  does  not.   ❝  well,  ❞   he  starts  casually,   ❝  it  appears  you’ve  come  out  on  top  again,   quin.   when  was  the  last  time  that  happened?   after  our  time  on  mordia?  ❞   obi - wan  isn’t  one  to  stay  honorable  in  fights.   and  if  he  can  use  his  words  as  a  weapon  then  so  be  it.   he  can  only  hope  they  take  the  bait.

     AND  THERE  IT  IS .  victory .  they've  won .  he  admits  to  it .  they  take  a  moment  to  breathe ,  to  catch  their  breath  after  the  strain  of  their  bout .  sparring  with  obi - wan  does  have  a  tendency  to  push  them  to  their  limits ,  much  to  vokara  che's  chagrin .    ❝  here  i  thought  i  was  the  one  with  amnesia ,  ❞    they  begin ,  smirk  remaining  solidly  in  place ,  an  eyebrow  quirking .    ❝  i  think  you'll  find  that  i  usually  come  out  on  top .  ❞    and  now  they  relax  their  grip  on  his  hands  ever  so  slightly ,  lean  forward ,  bring  their  face  down  beside  his ,  and  whisper  in  his  ear ,    ❝  but  if  you  really  need  your  memory  refreshed ,  i  think  i  can  probably  help  with  that .  ❞    they're  feeling  fairly  pleased  with  themself  ---  there  were  definitely  several  points  they  thought  he  could  have  beaten  them ,  especially  since  they're  still  not  back  up  to  par  with  their  lightsaber .  it  is  truly  a  pity  that  they’re  too  focused  on  their  victory  to  consider  how  easily  obi - wan  gave  in .

kestiis​ --- cal

It was unfortunate that Cal and his peers had graduated to become padawans during a state of war. He’d been a youngling when the war had started - nine years old. He had been chosen as a padawan at the age of twelve and thrown straight into the deep end.

His Master tried to keep him from the fighting as much as possible but it wasn’t always an option.

It was supposed to be an unguarded outpost which was why he’d been sent by himself. Though he’d requested backup when he realised how outmatched he was. He was told to stay put, to stay hidden but he hadn’t listened as he continued on to the control room to download the data he’d been sent for.

He’d managed that much before alarms began to blare - they’d noticed someone was digging around in their database, it seemed. He groaned, thinking he was done for until the Jedi Master appeared.

He let out a soft sigh.

“The Order got my distress signal? Nice to meet you Master Vos. I’m Cal Kestis and I do not have an escape plan.”

     WELL ,  THE  LACK  OF  an  escape  plan  is  only  slightly  concerning  ---  they  can  only  assume  that  he ,  too ,  thought  this  outpost  was  going  to  be  abandoned ,  and  thus  wouldn't  need  one .  which  ---  well ,  they're  in  the  same  boat  with  this  one .  deeply  frustrating ,  but  then  again ,  quinlan  has  always  had  a  bit  of  a  knack  for  getting  themself  ---  and  others  ---  out  of  tight  spaces .

     so .  the  question  is  how  to  get  them  out  of  this  particular  one .  (  it's  a  shame  they  weren't  able  to  get  the  intel  they  came  here  for ,  but  they  can  kick  themself  for  that  once  they've  gotten  this  padawan  to  safety .  )  (  it's  lucky  that  they  were  here ,  really .  )  another  grin ,  a  raised  eyebrow .    ❝  i  don't  know  if  they  did ,  actually  ---  i  was  here  on  my  own  mission .  ❞    they  gesture  at  the  open  ventilation  shaft  they'd  been  hiding .    ❝  i  was  sneaking  around  until  someone  tripped  the  alarm .  ❞    their  words  carry  the  slightest  hint  of  teasing  blame ,  but  their  expression  is  clear  of  any  blame  at  all .

     they  close  their  eyes ,  tilt  their  head  ---  listening .  it  seems  that  both  doors  out  of  the  room  will  shortly  have  company ,  which  means .  .  .  they  glance  back  at  cal .    ❝  how  good  at  climbing  through  the  vents  are  you ?  ❞    if  they  can  just  get  out  of  the  main  building ,  they'll  be  able  to  find  their  way  to  the  sewers  ---  and  to  quinlan's  ship .
