This was absolutely fantastic. It’s a bit of a slow build, but it’s never boring and the payoff is so worth the journey.

I absolutely loved Carrot. I love that Kingfisher writes books with older protagonists. It makes it that much more relatable. Carrot’s newly divorced, a broke freelance worker, and an avid fanfic reader, and I felt such kinship with her.

Simon was a great friend for her to have on this journey. He’s sarcastic and hella gay and the two of them had some really great banter as they slowly lost their minds in a hellish world.

The horror in this slowly built over the course of the book and as the tension ramped up, I couldn’t put it down. This one really dug its roots into me (pun intended, iykyk).
