I hate talking about Quentin with my X-Men fan friends who can't stand him. Because when you sincerely explain to them that you are tired of him being constantly nerfed and used as a scapegoat within the team, they immediately start saying that I am whining. They start talking about how Exodus/Rachel/Nathan/Hope/any of the Summers are missing from the plot and I have no right to whine at all.
But unlike Quentin, all of these characters received proper development in the comics. It feels like whenever Quire gets a spotlight, there's bound to be some person who decides that the "pink-haired loser/bum ass with no character/Jean Grey clone" is taking someone else's place. But damn, that's not true. Every X-Men is unique and carries with them a history, a trauma, a tragedy, and don't bother reminding me that he has white cis guy privilege.
I live in Russia and my life experience allows me to look at it a little differently. Self-expression is still taboo here; you'll rarely see guys with pink hair on Russian streets (This also applies to other CIS countries). What's common in the States is a rarity here. For me, Quentin is the quintessence of punk, which still lives, despite the fact that Grant Morrison showed us the deconstruction of punk by creating the Omega Gang.
I live in a country where everything is banned, we no longer have freedom of speech, and civil rights are ignored. For me, Quentin is an outlet, the embodiment of the revolutionary spirit, he is not just a privileged nerd. And as long as he's alive in comics, I have something to be happy about. Viva la QQQ!
