āHow could you have worked harder? How could you possibly have tried harder? What more could you have done? You did your best, but you werenāt given an opportunity. So just blame the world. The world shouldāve tried harder. The problem was that the world never gave you an opportunity. The world should do its best. Curse and cry all you want, but donāt blame yourself.ā

What's your take on his latest appearance? I see lots of people saying it's cheap and bad, that it came out of nowhere and so on...but tbh, when I saw the leaks my heart leaped with joy. Probably because he's a fave character of mine and I was happy to see him again. But what about you? What's your take on this?
MAJOR SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT!!!!

OK.Ā So I knew Eri was going to rewind someone in this arc, and between the two major contenders (Mirio and All Might), this one makes so much more sense.Ā
Itās been built through the entire culture festival arc, was brought up again at the end of the JTA, on the Ch 246 foreshadowing, and the beginning of this arc. So itās not like itās coming out of the blue. It was a question of WHEN - not IF. And it has a nice symbolism - Mirio set out to save a million, was willing to give up his power just to save one in more ways than one, only to have that one being the key to save a million (if this plays out as a victory for the heroes).
But, just like with the Touya-reveal, I think Horikoshi did this with impeccable timing, to open up a lot of interesting new plot avenues.Ā
1. We will get anĀ āI AM HEREā moment, just not Dekuās (it would be too early for him).Ā
After the Endeavor - Hawks debacle, I canāt imagine HPSC wouldnāt milk Mirioās appearance for all itās worth. They can give the people whose faith has been shaken a shiny, new symbol, All Might incarnate - with sincerity, charisma, goodness, heroism. None of the ugly skeletons that Endeavor and Hawks had. I think we are looking at the new No. 1. right here (which Aizawa foreshadowed during the Mirio vs Class 1a fight).Ā
2. The implications for the OFA-secret
I think this will come into play again. With Shigaraki kind of threat-level, if HPSC gets a whiff of the secret (Manual, Endeavor, Rock Lock all saw Deku Float) - the question will be asked - wouldnāt such a power be better in the hands of the new No. 1. hero, rather than a scrawny school-kid, who obviously canāt handle it, and who may just have irreparably damaged his arms and thus may never be able to wield it to its fullest? (As All Might said, not only the wicked desire power) Or Deku, who is set to walk away with a sense of defeat and frustration from this battlefield will ask himself again these questions.Ā
(And maybe, just maybe, we can get that moment from Bakugou, when he puts his faith in Deku - just when he hits a confidence rock bottom - my holy grail of DvK3). Iām also wondering what All Might will do? He had a flashback to Sir Nighteye at the beginning of the arc, he sees that this is too much for Izuku right now and heās hurting himself - will he second-guess himself?
3. New stress-test for the one-pillar model of hero society
After Kamino, we saw the cracks in All Mightās model of the Symbol of Peace - but now we can explore if those were real cracks or just appeared because Endeavor was not good enough to step into All Mightās shoes - neither in power, nor in character. So we may see a new attempt - this time with Lemillion trying (or being pushed by HPSC) to go with the same idea. I think this would be an interesting thing to see - because once it inevitably fails, it would cement the endgame where Deku canāt just become All Might 2.0 or 3.0 - because no matter who it is - the model itself is not sustainable.Ā
So he will have to come with something better, something different, which makes me happy, because thatās the endgame I want for this series.Ā
TL; DR: So anyways, while Iām not a Mirio-fan (donāt hate him or anything - just pretty neutral to him), I think that his return was built-up well and it was well-deserved. It opens up some avenues for some pretty interesting new plot and maybe finally some much-needed Deku CHARACTER development (which I felt was wasted in the Overhaul arc - but maybe it was just put on hold). So Iām really excited to see where this will go next.Ā
I wrote before about the parallels of Eriās and Shoutoās isolated, smile-deprived childhood and how Shouto learning the importance of fun and coming up with the idea of the live-show helps bringing the smile back to Eriās face.
I realized that Eri is also a parallel for Bakugou - in that their personal hero loses their power in the process of saving them.Ā
Watching Eriās survivorās guilt surface, reminded me how Bakugou felt responsible for All Might losing his power:
There is a quite striking difference though between how Eriās first meeting with Mirio and Bakugouās first meeting with All Might goes down afterwards.Ā
