A single slow dance.
Avoiding eye contact because, my god, her eyes are so beautiful and you don’t want her to see you blushing.
Laying in the grass together next to the campfire
And sharing a pair of earbuds
And talking about who you want to become.
Adjusting your arms so that they just slightly brush against hers, as if unintentional.
Another slow dance.
This time, her hands slide around your shoulders to rest more comfortably around the back of your neck, bringing you closer to her.
You notice you’ve both tilted your heads slightly to the side
As if you were about to kiss
(but then did not. a shame.)
And then in the morning when you left
And she searched everywhere for you for one last goodbye
But you were long gone, evaporated like the coastal mist hanging above us that morning
-yeah, that hurts. but maybe i’ll see you soon
