If people contemplated on Surah ‘Asr (chapter 103), it would have been sufficient for them.
[Imam ash-Shafi’ee (Rahimahullah), Heartfelt Advice to a Friend by Ibn al-Qayyim (Rahimahullah)]
In part of his explanation of surah Al-Ma'idah, al-haafidh ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) mentioned the following point about a linguistic feature of the Qur'an:
(In the Quran) many of the events of the Day of Resurrection have been mentioned in the past tense. This is done to indicate that they will definitely and certainly take place.

Modes of Recitation
Narrated ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (raḍiyAllāhu ‘anhu) I heard Hishām ibn Ḥākim (raḍiyAllāhu ‘anhu) reciting Surat Al-Furqān during the lifetime of Allah’s Messenger (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) and I listened to his recitation and noticed that he recited in several different ways which Allah’s Messenger (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) had not taught me.
I was about to jump over him during his prayer, but I controlled my temper, and when he had completed his prayer, I put his upper garment around his neck and seized him by it.
I then asked him: “Who taught you this Sūrah which I heard you reciting?”
He replied, “Allah’s Messenger (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) taught it to me.”
I said, “You have told a lie, for Allah’s Messenger (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) has taught it to me in a different way from yours.”
So I dragged him to Allah’s Messenger (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) and said (to him): “I heard this person reciting Surat Al-Furqān in a way which you haven’t taught me!”
On that Allah’s Messenger (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) said, “Release him, (O ʿUmar!). Recite, O Hishām!”
Then he recited in the same way as I heard him reciting.
Then Allah’s Messenger (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) said, “It was revealed in this way.”
Then he (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) said: “Recite, O ʿUmar!”
I recited it as he had taught me.
Allah’s Messenger (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) then said, “It was revealed in this way.
This Qurʾān has been revealed to be recited in seven different ways, so recite of it whichever (way) is easier for you (or read as much of it as may be easy for you).”

Ibn ‘Omar (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) said:
Knowledge has three pillars:
• A talking book (Quran),
• A line of conduct (Sunnah) and
• (saying) I do not know.

In part of the introduction to his famous book of tafsir,
Imam ibn Jarir at-Tabari (rahimahillah) included a section dedicated to narrations encouraging the study of tafsir in which he included the following narration:
Masruq (rahimahillah) said,
Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (radiyAllahu anhu) used to recite a surah to us, after which he would talk to us about it and explain it for the better part of the day.

Reciting one juz' with tarteel (slow and measured recitation) is better than reciting two juz' in the same amount of time without tarteel.

It is appropriate for a student (of knowledge) to begin with memorizing the Book of Allah (Quran).
[al-Khaṭīb al-Baġdādī (rahimahullāh), aj-Jāmiʿ li Akhlāq ʾl-Rāwī wa Ādāb ʾl-Sāmīʿ, 1/106]
The Trial of Imām Aḥmad (rahimahullah)
Imām Aḥmad (rahimahullah) was being lashed and a man came to him and said:
“Whisper in my ear that the Qur’ān is created so that I can save you from the Caliph’s whip!”
So Imām Aḥmad (rahimahullah) whispered back:
“Whisper in my ear that the Qur’ān is not created, that it is the Speech of Allāh, so that I can save you from the punishment of Allāh!”

ʿAbd Allah Ibn Aḥmad Ibn Ḥanbal (rahīmahullāh) said:
“My father (ie: Imām Aḥmad) used to pray three hundred (voluntary) rakaʿāt every day and night,
But when he become ill from the whipping he was weakened (he received these lashes at an old age),
So he would thereafter pray one hundred and fifty rakaʿāt every day and night,
And he was (an old man), nearly eighty years old.

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said that Surah Hud and its sisters turned his hair grey.
The sisters of this Surah are: Al-Waqia (56), Al-Mursalat (77), An-Naba’ (78) and At-Takwir (81).
[The evidence for this is the Hadith reported by at-Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) and al-Hakim (rahimahullah). adh-Dhahabi (rahimahullah) considered this Hadith sound in his comments on al-Mustadrak of al-Hakim (rahimahullah)]
Say, (O Muhammad), It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened and said, “Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur'an. It guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone." 72:1-2
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān (hafidhahullāh) said:
One is indeed astonished! If the Jinn are affected by the Qur'ān and grow more fearful because of it, what then is the case with humans, most of whom turn away from it?

Abdullah Ibn Mas’ood (radiyAllahu ‘anh) said:
Do not rush in reciting the Quran like the rushing of poetry, and do not toss it out like how you toss out a bad date. Pause at the amazing verses and let it move the hearts without letting the concern of any of you be to just get to the end of the Surah.

The one listening to the Quran is a participant with the reader in every letter which incurs a good deed, and every good deed is equivalent to ten the like of it.

If you see from amongst yourself, each and every time you recite the Quran an increase in īmān, then know this is a sign of success.

Take great care to adhere to the noble Quran through reciting it, reflecting upon it and acting upon it by following the pure Sunnah.

‘Abdullâh ibn Mubârak (rahimahullâh) said:
I asked Sufyân at-Thawrî (rahimahullâh):
Q. When a man stands to pray, what should he intend by his recitation (of the Quran) and (his) prayer?
He (rahimahullâh) replied,
A. He should intend that he is personally entreating his Lord.

Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah) said:
The mother of the Qur'an (Ummul Quran; Surah Fatihah); its beginning is praise, its middle is tawheed and its end is du'a.
