Hello friends~

Anyone remember me? Lmao

First of all, I’m happy to announce that after a whole year of struggling amongst pracs and studying for the remaining of my exams, and then more and more studying, I finally graduate med school! The past months have been a tough challenge, honestly I marvel at my own perseverance but it was all worth it. I’m gonna apply for a speciality next week, although it will take a few months until I get positioned somewhere.

So…I guess I’m back to pick up this mess of a blog. You can expect changes though. To be frank, FT has let me down deeply, not only story wise (which is no new), but also pairing wise. Long story short, I don’t feel like being that invested in a ship again only for it to leave me that disappointed in the end. Which basically means I won’t be writing fanfiction, or lengthy meta from now on. For any ship. If there’s writing, it will be original pieces. I’ll still enjoy my share of ships of course, old and new ones to come, but without actively contributing with that kind of fanwork. I may dabble in mediocre, less ship centered edit and gif making instead.

You can also expect a url change soon. I chose and kept my current one through the years so that people could associate my tumblr with my ff.net account, but I won’t be updating the latter anymore so there’s no longer point in that. I need a fresh start. I’m not quite the same person I was when I started this blog back in 2014. Heck, I’m not the same person I was a year ago.

Anyway, I hope you won’t mind this shift of focus and hop on for the ride as I seek a slightly new purpose for this blog. ^^

Hi friends~

I’m alive, haha. My inactivity has dragged on insanely long, I know, but it was necessary. I went through a very stressful couple of months, swamped with exams I had to study hard for. Some i nailed, some i just passed but there’s none i failed, so now I only have very few left for september, and if all goes well i’ll be graduating in october! Technically I’ve been free since the beginning of July but i really needed that spare time to reward myself with some relaxation, hang out with friends from school and enjoy our last days together because our studies are over, most of us are moving out and we won’t get to see each other in quite a while.

There’s many of you I’ve really missed and want to catch up with soon, but i think i need some more time to gather myself before i reach out to you. It’s typical of me to shut myself out of everything when i feel like I won’t be able to fight my anxiety and balance things out and I feel bad for that but i can’t help it.

To be honest I’m slightly terrified of taking a dip into fandom at the moment because, like I said, exams aren’t quite over for me yet and I cannot miss october’s graduation. That would be a huge delay for me. I need to stay calm and focused. Fandom has been a massive distraction for me in the past, from my studies, real life even, and i can’t let this happen right now. So chances are my activity during the summer break will be small. Hope you understand, though I doubt most will mind.

I’m not sure what i’m going to do with this blog in the long run, but it’s safe to say that i’ll eventually be back for some of the post-finale hype of FT and maybe dabble in new fandoms as well. Meanwhile you may or may not find me on my other blog @tisafunhouse where I may share some original stuff once i actually find the courage hah. Idk.

So, uh, this has been lingering in my mind for a while. People always whine about it every year and yesterday was no exception so I thought I might as well make a post. Idk if this could tone down the bitterness towards this exchange of 12 points between Greece and Cyprus, but I do think it might provide some better understanding on why that happens.

I’m greek and a eurofan since 2004. I vote for multiple countries each year, but not once have I voted for Cyprus. Hand to God. None of my friends have either. Actuallly, I don’t know any greek that votes for Cyprus in Eurovision, because admittedly, most of the times the song is not worth voting for. This has also been brought up on greek media and shows in general; I’ve seen a few people, including those considered as “eurovision experts” here, wonder who on earth votes for Cyprus because surely neither themselves nor people they know do.

The point is, most Greeks don’t vote for Cyprus. Then who does? Easy. Cypriots who reside in Greece.

Now, if there’s anything you need to know about Cypriot fans (no offence), is that most of them are very invested in voting for their compatriots in every kind of show or contest. It’s why 80% of the times the winners of greek talent shows (which always air in Cyprus as well) are cypriots and not greeks to begin with. This, in fact, has caused quite some indignation here over the years and has become a running gag. “Another X Factor season? Well we already know a cypriot is probably gonna win this one too.” Greece’s population is about 10 million, Cyprus’ is only a little more than 1 million and I imagine there must be at least another 20.000 of cypriots livng in Greece. This should be saying something.

But Cyprus is also always voting for Greece, the reason to which is just as simple to break down. Greece and Cyprus share the same showbusiness and music industry. Any artist that becomes popular in Greece automatically earns themselves a fanbase in Cyprus as well. Besides, many of our artists are cypriots and inevitably, many of our representatives in Eurovision are cypriots too. We’ve had 5 cypriot representatives since 2006! Including an X Factor participant, an X Factor winner and a Voice winner, with the latter two winning their respective talent show thanks to the cypriot vote. Of course Cyprus would dish out douze points for us every damn year.

It’s not because we are “two countries, one nation”, and it’s not something we can help.

But that's as far as televoting results are concerned. In 2011 and 2013 Greece had pretty good entries if i’m honest, which earned 7th and 6th place respectively so I wouldn’t say we didn’t deserve those 12 points by the cypriot jury. But in both 2015 and 2016, Greece gave its 10 points to Cyprus while, also in 2015, Cyprus gave its 8 points to Greece because (finally) the jury vote deviated from the televoting result. I…have absolutely no excuse for the 12 point ping pong in 2012 and this year though hahaha, because both Greece and Cyprus’ performances were average at best, other than the fact that 2012′s representative was (surprise) cypriot. Those might be the only two times so far where “two countries, one nation” did come into play. Unfortunately jury votes arealso not something the greek audience (or the cypriot, for that matter) can help. ^^’

The annual eurovision rant that you don’t care about

yet I can’t help but share because I have a lot of feelings about this crazy contest

- The favorites!

My top 3 have to be Portugal, Armenia and Bulgaria.

Out of all three, Portugal is the one that actually gives off that winner vibe and should win IMO. It’s different, serene, the guy sings in such a simple and romantic way, and it just gets all the emotion across without you even knowing what it says. Love it. I’ve been wanting this kind of music to earn a first place in the contest since il volo were criminally robbed of it in 2015 because freakin juries didn’t think operatic pop can produce radio hits pfff, always and forever salty about 2015. Hopefully this time around things will be different and good, timeless music prevails.

Armenia’s entry is probably my most favorite this year. Great song, vocals and stage performance (although they could’ve made the bridge more visually impressive). But I have a feeling it’s not going to make it as high as it could. Definitely in top 10, perhaps (and hopefully) even top 5, but i’m sure it won’t be in top 3.

Bulgaria’s entry is as 2017 as a song can be, and the kid’s voice is just beautiful. It’s going to play everywhere

Other favorites are Belgium, France, Moldova, Azerbaijan

All in all, it’s a pretty good year

- SWEET LORD, THE ISRAELI DUDE *FANS SELF*

- Romania should be an honorable mention because who doesn’t like yodeling on point

- I find Italy terribly overrated this year. It’s a good song that deserves to be in the top 10 but that’s it for me. I don’t get all this hype, Italy has had much better entries in the past few years tbh (like 2015, 2013 and 2012)

- I’m not a fan of our entry, even though it’s decent. Demy can do much better, and has much better songs. We’ll be lucky if we make it to top 15.

- Aaaand now I’m just going to drop my predictions for the winner here and see how close I got when it’s over. I think Portugal is going to win the televoting while Bulgaria will win the jury vote, so it’s all going to depend on the total points each country gets. If it goes like last year, then Italy might as well win in the end by earning 2nd place in both votes (boop)
