Can you talk more about this please? This is an idea I haven't come across or thought of before and I'd like to know more

that having a wdc father helped nico to leave f1? and that in many ways it's unsurpring that he left when he did?

i think that something that most people don't get in f1 is a choice. most drivers do not get to choose when they leave. racing isn't just a job for most drivers, it's a lifestyle. they chase glory and success, even risking death in the process. and that lifestyle grinds them down. most will never even see success, but even those that do are so obsessed with it that they continue chasing it long after it has passed them by. world champions, even multiple world champions stop winning eventually, they stop driving for a top team. they age and become less desirable for teams and end up driving worse and worse cars, losing to younger and younger drivers until eventually they have to leave. most of them don't get a choice, the teams just stop wanting to hire them, but even the ones that do announce their own retirements usually do so after being ground down by the losses and the lack of competitiveness.

so in that regard keke is pretty unusual. he didn't end his career with a world championship, but he was still winning races, finished the season 3rd in the wdc, and was even leading his final race before his car broke down. so he was still competitive and could have continued. but he'd had his f1 success, knew that death was a very real possibility (his close friend elio de angelis died in a testing accident in 86, and numerous drivers died during his career) and had a wife and baby at home. he chose sina and nico over f1, so the vast majority of nico's lived existence was as the "after" of f1, but also as the thing that an f1 driver actively chose over racing.

then there's mika hakkinen. more successful than keke, but also closer to death. he was briefly senna's teammate, and was on the grid in 1994 when senna and ratzenberger died, even making it onto the podium during that very race. he also had his own near death experience in 1995 when he had an extremely serious crash that required an emergency tracheotomy and his heart being restarted twice before they even got to the hospital, after which he spent months in hospital both in australia and england. he won multiple races even after winning his championships, coming second to schumacher in 2000 and fifth in 2001 (after a LOT of dnfs, including some very big crashes). so again, he was still a very competitive driver whose team would have kept him on, and did not have to retire. although he initially announced that he was going on sabbatical, this was mostly a concession to ron dennis who did not want him to leave, and less than a year after he went on sabbatical he confirmed that he was retiring permanently. he was already married at this point, with his eldest child born in 2000, and he cited both the danger of f1, and the desire to spend more time with his family as a reason.

in 2014, nico was on the grid when jules bianchi had his crash, the injuries from which he later died of. in 2015 his eldest child was born. in 2016 he won his championship. the pattern of keke mika and nico is almost identical in this regard. a world champion, who was on the grid for at least one racing related death, and had a child the year before, decides to retire.

most drivers don't get a choice. keke did, and found happiness and fulfilment in life afterwards. mika got a choice, and found happiness and fulfilment in life afterwards. nico's two most immediate and inspirational examples of f1 drivers and f1 world champions, were men who left the sport while they were still competitive and did so for their families, and then did not regret it. i think it's unsurprising that nico did what he did given that example, but i also think that in some ways it's a privilege he got that most others simply could not have. most f1 drivers believe f1 to be the pinnacle, the thing that they work their entire lives to achieve. the question of after is either unthinkable, or actively seen as failure. nico's lived existence was of being the happiness and fulfilment after f1, so of course he knew that leaving could make him happy

You guys comparing every rivalry to Brocedes makes me wonder if you guys understand brocedes at all.

Lewis, who was borderline poor, came from this English city and had a dream of becoming the best despite this.

And Nico, who came from money, his father won that championship, and he was chasing after it too. He lived in Monaco, surrounded by the richest people, and the sport.

Lewis, who knew that every weekend could be his last in karts, because he had co compete against kids like Nico, rich, white and surrounded by Formula 1. Always the exception.

Nico, who was bullied because he looked like a girl, and was just SO lonely.

Lewis and Nico, who became friends for theor shared passion, and loneliness. Coming from the most different background.

Keke Rosberg had to buy a whole karting team to make sure that Lewis and Nico were teammates.

Anthony Hamilton who told Lewis to beware, that Keke bought the team, so his son could be favoured.

Nico who got to Formula 1 to prove he wasn't just his father's son, he was more, his own person. Lewis who was the first ever black man to get to Formula 1.

Nico and Lewis who were teammates again at Mercedes, who promised Niki Lauda that they would go along and that they could handle it.

But they just couldn't, with Nico having to prove he wasn't just daddies money, always in the shadow of Keke, and now of Lewis, a world champion in his second year in F1, and Lewis having to prove it wasn't just the car, that he wasn't a one hit wonder.

Still everything happened, they weren't friends anymore, Nico could only eat Frosties before their last race, cereal they ate together when they were kids. Lewis couldn't stop talking about how everything had changed, they didn't eat pizza together anymore, they barely talked. And how Nico had went and got married.

Nico's first podium had seen Lewis at the top, and Nico's last podium had too seen lewis at the top. Just how much had changed in 8 years.

All this to say, that Brocedes is just so particular and different from other rivalries. Because both of them had something to prove.

Lando and Oscar aren't like this, they weren't that different when they were kids. They were barely friends as is.

Kimi and George definitely aren't this. They don't have the history, don't have the pettiness or craziness or childhood lore that Nico and Lewis had.

Lando isn't all like Seb, he doesn't think of himself as a peacemaker, as also the wrong doer. Who says mean stuff about Lewis and Nico, all those clips I'm sure you have seen. Lando isn't PR trained, something like that would never happen today.

Also Kimi and George, and Lando and Oscar really aren't like Sebmark either. Mark being so close to retirement, just chasing that WDC, his childhood dream. Being there for the start of a team, suffering when he got bad results because he knew that RedBull would be good at some point.

Got paired up with this kid, who got favourite because he was younger, who was faster. Who sent Mark crazy. Because he was just that protected by the team, even if it was his fault.

But also Sebastian, who wanted to be friends wtih Mark but met this man who hated him, because he was just better.

The sport hated Sebastian because he was good. Sebastian in 2013 won so much he got F1 stats to go down in views.

I understand that Lando is hated, but he can never get this lever. And Oscar isnt all like Mark either, it isn’t over for him yet. But it was for Mark.

I am mentally ill and love their rivalries, and hate when people comprare them.

Nico often repeats things he's already said many times, but this one is truly different.The most interesting part is when he talks about Michael, instead of the usual story about Michael blocking him from using the bathroom, he talked a lot about what he actually learned from him.

Nico said that Michael is a natural-born fighter who doesn't need to deliberately think about undermining his teammate—because the teammate is the first opponent. The moment he opens his eyes each day, he's thinking about how to beat his teammate. He's incredibly good at it, and Nico learned a great deal from him, as it involves so many aspects. Regarding teamwork, Michael remembered everyone’s names, kept a birthday list to send brief personal emails, and even invited the crew to go cycling at his home. It was these small gestures that won him everyone's respect, which made Nico realize: you can’t achieve anything alone; success only happens with the team. Nico said, 'I took all of that with me; it became a part of who I am.' Nico also said that at every race weekend during practice (he didn't specify the exact time, but I assume it was 2010), Michael would run off the track, ride over the high kerbs, and damage the floor of his car. The team was desperate, wondering if he had forgotten how to drive. But at the end of the year, it turned out he had been doing it on purpose. He deliberately damaged the floor so that he would have an excuse to exploit a loophole in the regulations and adjust the car's ride height, gaining a performance advantage of 0.08 seconds per lap.

(OMG the moment I saw this, I immediately thought of Nico asking Puma to adjust his gloves, changing his helmet colour, and stopping cycling to reduce his calf muscle size — all for a 0.01-second advantage.😭)

And this is just my opinion: What I love most about Germancedes is this — I don't think they had any kind of romantic relationship at all. But here's the thing: a GOAT-level figure, at the very end of his career, still spent every single day thinking about how to beat his young teammate. That proves why hes the GOAT (to me, and I don't care what others think, so don't bother trying to convince me). And then there's Nico, who hadn't won a single race. When he first learned that Michael would be his teammate, his immediate reaction was fear. But he never backed down, and he went on to beat his older teammate on track. That tension in their rivalry — that's what I love most about them.

One thing that really REALLY annoys me is when people try to make it look like Nico Rosberg only won his championship because of the reliability problems Lewis Hamilton had, like that somehow means he didn’t deserve it, or that he lacked the talent and just got lucky.

Reliability has always been part of Formula One, it’s not some external excuse, it’s literally built into the sport. Plenty of drivers had lost races or even championships because of mechanical failures, that doesn’t make the winner any less valid.

I don’t think people realize the hell of a driver Nico was, he managed to beat THE SIR Lewis Hamilton in equal machinery and yes, “he is not on Lewis’ level” BUT ALMOST NO ONE IS, there have been almost 800 drivers in f1 and Lewis is undeniably top 3 of all time in any respectable chart. Nico obviously would look inferior if you put it against him. Just the way any other driver would look too.

Yet, he managed to stand against and beat Lewis in the middle of his prime, stopped him for getting those 7 titles in a row. Won 21 races against him and got 46 podiums in a span of 3 years.

They are literally the strongest pairing Mercedes has ever had, the pairing with the most 1-2 in f1 history. Despite only being teammates in a competitive car for 3 SEASONS.

And some people seriously dare to say Nico is not a deserving champion and an incredible driver (?), it is just unbelievable to me.

So, yeah, you may not like him, but let’s start putting some respect on Nico’s name.

You don’t accidentally win 7 races in a row, you don’t accidentally qualify only in the front row all the season and you definitely don’t accidentally beat your teammate in the same car over a full season and walk away with a title.

No, Nico didn't deserve the championship. When your teammate is a GOAT in top form, they obviously deserve the win. Every single driver works hard, by that logic everyone deserves be champion, but that's not how it works. To the main point and this is why it's contentious; Nico, the German driver, was prioritized by Mercedes. Do you think that's fair? It's too long to go through all the times that happened. But that's why Nico won the championship, because Mercedes made sure they got their German champion. It's a slap in the face when people claim to be brocedes fans, but only value one driver's feelings. Imagine delivering everything possible and still not winning because your own team doesn't want you to. Lewis was so unfairly treated, but you don't care because Nico, your obvious priority, got his shallow victory.

Both of them put everything they had into that season, they knew they had a competitive car and chances like don’t come every year. They put enormous amounts of effort, so yeah, you can argue both of them deserved the championship, but at the end Nico won it and there’s nothing you nor I can do about it 🤷🏽‍♀️

And about Nico being prioritized on the team, I don’t believe that was the case, Mercedes had always been known to let, most of the times, their drivers race. If not, Nico would have won sooner because as you try to imply “he’s the German driver on a German manufacturer” but he didn’t.

Also, I believe Lewis was not treated unfairly in Mercedes, otherwise he wouldn’t have stayed so long at the team, even if we pretended he just stayed because they had the fastest car, he wouldn’t have the good relationship and respect he always shows towards Mercedes, Toto an all the team. You don’t maintain that kind of relationship with a someone that was actively working against you.

I mean even back at 2016, let’s not fool ourselves, Niki obviously preferred Lewis and he was an important part of the Merc team too.

Lewis is unarguably the best we have these days in the sport, but not even him is perfect. Sometimes his teammate or another driver one weekend is gonna deliver more performance and that doesn’t automatically mean they are sabotaging Lewis.

My post was not about me trying to dismiss any Lewis’s achievements, but just try to acknowledge the talent that Nico has and stop trying to dismiss HIS achievements too. His win wasn’t “shallow”, he worked hard for it all season and in the end that effort paid off.
