Welcome to my blog. I like to post about the visual novel game "Our Life: Beginnings and Always" and make mods/script edits for it! Red's OLBA Mod Menu Mod!

Hello, this is just a quick companion mod I made to be compatible with all my mods (including Step 5) and any future devs' mods! (information for devs below!) It adds a neat little menu to the game's main menu, where you can view all your downloaded mods. You must redownload the Step 3 Proposal Mod if you want it to show up in the menu!

Are you a dev and want to make your mod(s) compatible?

It's simple, in a new or existing .rpy file for your mod, just add this piece of code with your own info. (Example below)

have you ever considered working with the developer of OL:BA about the addition step mods i would assume they’d be interesting in supporting you

Hi! GB has already stated they aren't interested in making any more content for OL:BA right now, as they're focused on OL:NF. Additionally, they can't personally endorse/support mods, as they have already told us :)

Besides that, we enjoy this being a fan passion project, and if they graciously did want to work with us, we would be overjoyed, but that's just not how mods usually work! Thank you for the question!

Step 3 Proposal Reactions Mod [2026 UPDATE]

(Same preview from the last download, the content hasn't changed much) Hi, I've been meaning to make a quick update to this mod so that it uses better coding practices and is easier to download overall. Simply go into your game's files (if downloaded via steam, located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Our Life Beginnings And Always\game), create a "Mods" folder, and drop the downloaded file into it! EXAMPLE:

After this, you're all good to play ✨ Just keep in mind that, if you decide to remove this file, any saves during the mod may crash your game, so it's best to remove those save files! (This does not apply to saves of moments occurring before/after the modded section)

Will AI be used in development?

I previously mentioned this before, but again, wanted to restate it for the FAQ.

No form of artificial intelligence, specifically generative AI, such as ChatGPT, will ever be used in brainstorming, artwork, writing, or any other development stage of the OL:BA Step 5 mod!

Aside from the devastating environmental and ethical implications, we want to create something for humans, by humans!

TLDR: AI SUCKS! We don’t want to touch it with a 10-foot pole and we’re definitely not using it in development!

Step 5 Mod Update

Hello! You may have seen already that we received word from GB-Patch regarding our mod! I’ve already stated most of this in the server, but I’ll restate it here for anyone not in the loop. 🩷

Hello, unfortunately nothing mod content related in this update, but it is very important nonetheless!

We just received word from GB that we have the go ahead to make our mod (Yay!)! However, we also were informed that, as we expected, we will not be able to do any form of crowd funding to hire new team members or professions for paid time.

How does this affect the project?

Thankfully, largely it will not affect the project at all! We were considering funding to be able to get Cove’s VA to voice some lines for the mod, since there’s no way we’d be able to have the funds to pay him for his time personally. But it’s okay! it’s also possible that, if/when we are ready for that, the VAs would be gracious enough to volunteer their time and/or we can find impressionists generous enough to volunteer!

In any case, this will not affect the mod much, so don’t worry, it was always the plan that this mod would never be monetized and we would never profit from it.

All that to say (TL:DR),

This mod will never be monetized or paywalled, and we will never crowdfund to make it happen. It’ll always be made because of the hard work and dedication of generous volunteers!

Can I just say, thank you thank you thank you for making such amazing and beautiful games. The work you guys have put in has forever changed me in making OLBA my favorite game of all time

I know you said we were allowed to make mods for personal use, but I wanted to make sure I got permission.

A team and I really want to work on making a step 5 mod, free for everyone.

However, we would need funding to pay artists/writers/ etc to make it happen as it’s too much for one person.

Would it be ok to create a tiktok so we could raise money for the mod?

We just didn’t want to overstep, take credit, or do anything you wouldn’t want us to do without your permission!

Hello! Thank you very much for the love :) It's okay for players to make mods of the game, but we aren't able to endorse or advertise them. If you do move forward with the concept, please make sure it's clear that the mod is a fan project, and not officially affiliated with GB Patch Games.

As for making money, mods can't make money off themselves. They can't be sold or asking for donations to create. There are exceptions to not using OL content to make money, such as taking art commissions and having someone ask you to draw something from our games. And making ad revenue off of a let's play or review of the game is also allowed. So, it would depend on what you're doing with the Tiktok. We don't like to having to be strict, but giving permission for certain things means providing a legal right to use our content and we have to avoid giving that to anyone outside the company. I wanted to ask permission, and see how you would feel.

If you don’t know when you plan on continuing the mod (which is perfectly ok!) or maybe even at all,

would it be ok with crediting you if one of us were to continue it using the material already made? Or even with like paying you for your time! I know you said you didn’t want to put it behind a paywall though.

I’m sorry if this is rude or offensive or it’s wild of me to even ask this!

I have been trying to get back into this and actually the reason for my silence more recently was me trying to replay the game and familiarize myself with its style/writing so I’d remember all the material haha.

I would be interested in working with the community this go round and also, no thank you, I don’t want to be paid, as it would feel wrong for me to profit off a mod! 🫶 like I said in the last ask, I’ll probably get on discord again soon, and check out the situation there so we can talk there.

Hi I really really love your work!!! I’m in your discord and there’s a group(?) of people that are trying to do a “takeover” or something, is that with your permission? It seems kinda weird since they’re even talking about getting financial support - I just wanted to ask if you were aware of this since I’d be angry if someone decided to take over my own project without my permission - I hope you’ve been well tho!!

Truthfully I haven’t been there in ages, I haven’t looked at it in probably over a year. I’d prefer if someone told me about this and consulted me on it since I did make quite a bit of art for it! I’m likely to just completely restart the server honestly since I had no idea it still existed and have since made a new discord private account.

I’ll probably jump on there later and check out the situation of things, sorry things have been so crazy, college is wild man.

WAIT IDK IF YOU'RE WRITING FOR THE PREGNANCY/STEP 5 MOD STILL BUT COULD YOU SHARE SOME OF YOUR IDEAS PLEASE!! Like, what would be included in it if you keep working on it!!!!

I won't share everything I was/might (in the future!) put in the mod, but I'll share some of the general fun ideas I'd had for the route I was working on:

many, many fun ways to tell Cove you're expecting. Some ideas were more symbolic, like giving him 3 dolphin balloons, or silly with a bun in the oven joke (that would've gone over his head, bless him), or just giving him the test like a frazzled mess 😂

It was going to be possible for you and Cove to have gotten together between step 4 and 5, not have told anyone you were dating, and now having a kid, so you'd get to hit everyone with a double-whammy during the reveal scene(s) LOL (Obviously, this would have been on the unplanned pregnancy route, etc...)

Lots of Cove doting on the MC, maybe overly so at times. If your MC was a bit more fiesty/resistent to help you might have to remind him you're not made of glass. (There would DEFINITELY have to be a scene where Cove gets the option to carry the MC 🥹...)

A whole nursery design plot, but either everything goes perfectly, or nothing seems to go quite right... up to you and how your MC would handle it.

Is it possible to mod the character creation segments in between steps to add more options similar to the way our life now and forever has?

Yes, its entirely possible, but would take a lot of effort to make everything work properly since 1.) both games are made different versions of Ren'py, 2.) Each character creator uses different code to make them work. I did attempt something like this a little while ago, and here's what I ended up with! Lol

I could definitely give it another shot and try to actually get it to work, but I was mostly having fun when I did this and ended up getting frustrated.
