Perseus and Andromeda at their wedding:
Art by Tsukasa Hōjo.
I find it so interesting how only the version where Ares is the one to kill Adonis is the one that is popular, while there are two more where Apollo or Artemis kill him, and they too, have very valid reasons to kill him. Apollo for blinding his son Erymanthus, and Artemis to puish Aphrodite for killing her Hippolytus. And is there not a version where Ares kill him, because he raped some virgin girl that either Artemis or Zeus liked, because Hermes asked him to on Zeus' behalf? While I get why the jealousy of Ares is the one most popular, jealousy myths are like that, but is it very interesting. Also considering that Apollo was one of Adonis' lovers(together with Dionysus, because of course), it's even more interesting I think.
Hey hello. I just want to add that Artemis and Apollo are not the only alternatives for culprits. Adonis' death could had also have been caused by the Muses, Zeus (with the aid of Hermes), Persephone or a regular boar that wanted to kiss him. Also let me correct something
"And is there not a version where Ares kill him, because he raped some virgin girl that either Artemis or Zeus liked, because Hermes asked him to on Zeus' behalf?"
I am going to assume you are referring to Servius' account [bare in mind this is a rather unusual version]:
Adonis vero ubi cognovit se ama- tam Iovis vitiasse, metuens profugit in montis Casii silvas ibique in- mixtus agrestibus versabatur. quem dolo Mercurii monte deductum cum aper, quem fabulae Martem loquuntur, vehementer urgeret et ab Adone vinceretur, repente fulmen Iuppiter iecit et Adonem morti dedit
For context there was a virgin girl that was so chaste that Artemis and Athena loved her while Aphrodite hated her, Aphrodite caused Zeus to fall in love with the maiden which prompted Hera to ask Aphrodite to cast desire on Adonis to Erinoma [the virgin]. Adonis couldn't win her affections so Aphrodite wrapped a cloud around him and he raped the maiden [Artemis then transformed the girl into a peahen out of pity]. Then after this whole thing Adonis found out that she was also a beloved of Zeus so he fled to some forest... Anyways. Ares did attempt to kill Adonis here [with a reason not stated, maybe he was helping his father? The wording is confusing because it seems like he just appeared unprompted] but weirdly this seems to be the only time Adonis won against boar Ares. [The part of the quote that I highlighted in bold]. What caused his death on this version was 1) Hermes luring him out of the hiding place 2) Zeus striking Adonis with a lighting bolt.
I really despise that myth, after this whole thing and after they killed the rapist for SOME REASON Hera asks Zeus to revive Adonis and Artemis turns Erinoma back into a human so Adonis and his victim can marry :/ so like, what was the point of her being avenged? Tbh I don't really know what you want me to add here, you just told me what the Wikipedia lists as Adonis death. I personally think all the versions of his death has their own thing to offer, I think the one where the boar wanted to kiss his 'naked thigh' is tragically funny (Also we don't really know what caused Artemis to kill Adonis, Hippolytus' death being the catalyst it's just a theory)
Rare sighting: A happy ending for Rhea Silvia!
(Context: In case you don’t know, Numitor is Rhea’s father and the rightful king — he was usurped by Amulius, his evil brother who ordered to have Rhea’s twin sons killed so there wouldn’t be more competition for the throne. Additionally, Rhea Silvia being given a different name is pretty common, you’ll also see her being called Ilia or Aemilia)
“Now in this place Remus and Romulus, rescuing their mother from the punishment of Amulius — her name was Servilia; for Ares, after violating her, begot them from her, and when they had been exposed, a she-wolf reared them. Having grown to manhood, they freed their mother from her bonds, and after founding Rome they restored the kingship to Numitor.
You secretly bore to Ares a hidden offspring of children,
bringing forth Remus and Romulus from your bed;
and a beast, a she-wolf, beneath the sheltering cave
nurtured them at her teat into manhood,
they who snatched you away from grievous toils.”

Thank you for the tag🥰🥰!!! Almost let out a happy squeal when I saw all the mermaids😍! Had to make my girl, Adara (from the Changing Waters Trilogy).
This cracked me up because each time I tried to make her look less villainous, it seemed less like her🤣. She is NOT a villain in the story, but she is a very ruthless heroine. So...take that as you may. She doesn’t hold the skull of her enemy in the books, but she totally would if given the chance.
@somesouthparkfan23 So you can make Narissa! Open tags for who else wants to play!
@steph-manser!
Attempted to make a character of mine, a bit difficult for male characters 🥲:

There’s a non zero chance there’s a lost myth where Ares was in love with Adonis, which would lead to the latter’s death somehow.
I don't have the original texts with me but...
*slurp*
To which the beast “I swear to thee, Cytherean,” answered he, “by thyself and by thy husband, and by these my bonds and these thy huntsmen, never would I have smitten thy pretty husband but that I saw him there beautiful as a statue, and could not withstand the burning mad desire to give his naked thigh a kiss. (The Dead Adonis, line 21-38)
time to repost my hidden gems?
They are looking far too cute for the context
