I suggest listening to If I Can’t Be With You while reading this :-)
Having your boyfriend in a famous band sucked sometimes but it had its perks too. Over the summer when they were on tour you were able to go with to help work the merch booth and then you got to go sightseeing with Ross. Usually it was great news when you heard they were going to be going on tour, except for this time. You would have to stay home instead of traveling the world with Ross and spending lots of time together. You hardly got to see him as it is so you both were disappointed when you found out couldn’t go.
'I miss you'. The text from Ross read. You frowned and typed back 'I miss you too'. Not being together for months at a time was taking its toll on the both of you. The texts, phone calls, and daily video chats were definitely not enough. You and Ross were a very close-knit couple. When you were together you were always touching somehow whether your fingers were intertwined or his arms were wrapped around you. You would sneak a kiss every chance you got and you were always showing plenty of PDA even if you didn’t mean to.
Before he left, Ross let you raid his closet for any of his clothes that you would want to have with you. You ended up grabbing a couple of his t-shirts, a sweatshirt and a beanie, all of which smelt like him. Every night you would wear one of his t-shirts to bed and you were almost always wearing his sweatshirt. Whenever you missed him a little extra you would put on his t-shirt and sweatshirt and pull on the beanie, carrying another of his shirts up to your room when you would cuddle up with the shirt on his side of the bed.
You found yourself thinking about all these things while you waited for his text. You heard your phone buzz from the table beside you and jumped up to get it. Instead of the expected text from Ross, you got a text from Rydel. Confused, you open up the message. ‘Can you talk?’ You sat up and leaned against the headboard and replied. ‘Ya, sure’. Moments later you got a call from Rydel.
“Hey” you answered, your voice sounding sadder than you’d expected.
“Alright, no small talk. Ross has been down since we left and it’s effecting him, like a lot. The fans are noticing that he isn’t himself and he’s forgetting lyrics and messing up chords left and right. He can’t sing If I Can’t Be With You without crying because he wrote it about you. The only way to fix this is for him to see you. How soon can you fly out to surprise him?”
"I’ll go to the airport right now!" you exclaimed.
You shoved a bunch of random items of clothing in a bag, not worrying about whether or not they would match. Pulling the beanie over your messy bed head you ran down the stairs, dragging the suitcase behind you. You got in the car and tossed your bag behind you and buckled your seatbelt. You were about to pull out of the driveway when you realized that you had left your phone inside. You practically jumped out of the car and sprinted back up to your room to retrieve your phone then sprinted back out to the car. You did a quick real quick to make sure nothing was forgotten and then pulled out of the driveway, for real this time.
You had to control your excitement in the airport as you walked to the customer service desk, “One ticket for the next flight to Chicago please.” The lady nodded and handed you a ticket after you payed. You walked over to your gate and sat down, anxiously waiting for your flight to leave, which wouldn’t happen for at least an hour. You pulled out your phone and texted Rydel. ‘My plane leaves in an hour. I’ll let you know when I land’. She replied almost immediately. ‘Yayy!!! See you soon!’
After what felt like forever your plane finally landed. You immediately pulled out your phone to let Rydel know had landed. You waited patiently by the exit for a cab to come get you. As soon as it stopped you opened the door and got in, putting your bag on the seat next to you. ‘On my way!’ You anxiously texted Rydel. You went through the plan in your head over and over again.
I’ll text Rydel when I get to the hotel and she’ll text Rocky, who is rooming with Ross, and tell him I’m on my way up. Then I give Rydel my bag to put in her room and go to Ross’ room and knock on the door and say its room service. Rocky makes him answer it and he sees me.
When the cab pulled to a stop you paid the driver and got out of the car. You walked into the lobby and told Rydel you had arrived. She immediately texted back and told you the room number.
Dragging your bag behind you you practically ran to the elevator and anxiously pressed the floor number. You checked your appearance in the mirrored walls of the elevator, even though you knew Ross wouldn’t care what you looked like.
The doors creaked open and you took a deep breath before walking out into the hallway where Rydel was waiting. She wrapped you in a brief hug and took your bag from you, pushing you towards Ross and Rocky’s room. You stood in front of it for a minute staring at the door. You were finally going to see Ross after a month apart.
“Room service…” you called as you knocked on the door. You heard Rocky tell Ross to answer it and Ross complaining as he shuffled towards the door. The door slowly opened and you unknowingly held your breath.
Ross just stood there for a second surprised to see you standing there. “Omygod” he mumbled and pulled you into his arms. “I missed you so much” He whispered, his head buried into your neck. He pulled away slightly to press a kiss to your lips and then practically dragged you into the room. He sat down on the chair in the corner of the room and pulled you onto his lap. His arms wrapped around your waist and you rested into his embrace.
“How did you get here?” he asked and pressed a kiss to your shoulder. “Rydel called and told me you were missing me too much and asked me to fly out and, well, here I am!” you grinned. “Well I’m so glad you’re here.” You stared into his brown eyes, them looking 10 times better than you remembered. Your thoughts were interrupted when he leaned in and gently kissed you. “I’m never leaving you again. Ever.” He mumbled and pulled you in for another kiss, this one more passionate than ever before.
Was it good? Let me know what you think!!! xx Em
