Bliss Body: Recurrent Allusions to Buddhism in Koujaku's Route, DRAMAtical Murder

In today’s edition of ‘no seriously, how deep can the material for a porn game possibly be?’, the answer is going to be, of course: “Very.”

This essay is basically the culmination of a series of discussions I had over twitter with hooshangh and on Skype with splitbricks. I was doing research for an upcoming fic about Koujaku I want to write, and these realizations came out of that research.

A caveat: Many of these 'insights’ are things that would be obvious to a Japanese person. I am not Japanese and not Buddhist, so while I have presented these ideas as if I am reporting facts, these are just similarities and undercurrents I have noticed, and I welcome a more informed interpretation.

After seeing many discussions and ideas for tattoos Aoba might get in Ryuuhou!Bad End for Koujaku’s route, I started wondering why Ryuuhou gave Koujaku the tattoos he does. The flowers might be pretty enough, but the use of a symbol that has meaning outside of the game world– that could not be something that was chosen randomly.

And, of course, it isn’t.
