Word Net, #1
Welcome to our first Word Net.
From today's stories we've gathered a few words that may be new to us. We're going to hold onto those words and review their meanings.
Each week we'll review our word net and add new words to it as we explore new stories.
We're looking to expand our imaginations, not just with the new places we can picture in our minds, but to add new words to our vocabulary and share them with others.
Words can be wonderful and powerful if you know how to use them.
Let's review some of the new words we learned from today's stories, "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Exquisite Corpse" :
conceited
adjective. Having or showing too high an opinion of oneself
bully
noun. A person who teases, hurts, or threatens smaller or weaker person.
verb. To act like a bully toward someone
gloomy
adjective of the noun gloom: partial or total darkness; 2) a sad mood

enchanted

desperado

chasm
noun. A deep split or gap in the ground
gorge
noun. a narrow passage, ravine, or steep-walled canyon.
Today's word net is big. This week let's add at least one new word to your word net and practice using each of the words in their own sentence.
The Word Net: We'll use this to write down the new words we learn with each new story.
Once we catch the words and find out what they mean, then we can use them in a sentence.
Print out a copy of your own and add to it each time there's story time on Simply Shorts (every Monday 2pm PST).
