Sorry for the late posting, but here's the word net from last week's story "The Exquisite Corpse."

Remember, we want to add 1-3 new words to our word nets each week and then practice using them in a sentence. This will help expand our vocabularies. 

Villain: NOUN. a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot

Scowled: VERB. frown in an angry or bad-tempered way

Contorted: ADJ. twisted or bent out of its normal shape

Unimpressed: ADJ. feeling no admiration, interest, or respect.

Wheezed: VERB. (of a person) breathe with a whistling or rattling sound in the chest, as a result of  an obstruction in the air passages

Foolish: ADJ. lacking good sense or judgment; unwise

Tremble: VERB. shake involuntarily, typically as a result of anxiety, or excitement

Loyal: ADJ. giving or showing support  to a person

Jaunty: ADJ. having or expressing a lively, cheerful, and self-confident manner

Horde: NOUN. a large group of people

Word Net, #1

Welcome to our first Word Net.

From today's stories we've gathered a few words that may be new to us. We're going to hold onto those words and review their meanings. 

Each week we'll review our word net and add new words to it as we explore new stories.

We're looking to expand our imaginations, not just with the new places we can picture in our minds, but to add new words to our vocabulary and share them with others. 

Words can be wonderful and powerful if you know how to use them. 

Let's review some of the new words we learned from today's stories, "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Exquisite Corpse" :

conceited

adjective. Having or showing too high an opinion of oneself

bully

noun. A person who teases, hurts, or threatens smaller or weaker person.

verb. To act like a bully toward someone

gloomy

adjective of the noun gloom: partial or total darkness; 2) a sad mood

forever

adverb. for a limitless time

enchanted 

adjective. Being or appearing to be under a magic spell

desperado 

noun. A bold or reckless criminal

noun. Backbone

verb. to break to pieces

adjective. Very angry

adjective. not honest or trustworthy.

adjective. of or relating to the judgment of right and wrong in human behavior

verb. To take for one's own, often without right.

noun. A deep split or gap in the ground

gorge

noun. a narrow passage, ravine, or steep-walled canyon. 

Today's word net is big. This week let's add at least one new word to your word net and practice using each of the words in their own sentence.
