Comment After listening to this conversation, I fully and finally understand Lee Peterson's reasons for his objections concerning blacks receiving constant assistance from whites. He sees it as a way of perpetuating helplessness via an unrelenting dependency. Similar to a child never being allowed to achieve independence by misguided parents who mean well, but who are inadvertently or perhaps sometimes maliciously, doing far more harm than good.

Comment Before I watched this documentary, I believed that African Americans had undergone the cruelest version of slavery. As to Roman slavery, I was under the erroneous impression that it was mild in comparison because there were laws prohibiting the abuse of Roman slaves. I was totally wrong. This video describes a system that just as cruel and in many ways even crueler than the Anglo American one. Human were captured chained and transported while chained and forced to walk on foot towards Rome. They were evaluated and tagged according to their perceived value. In short, German and other white slaves were considered merely property and were treated as such. No, this was not something historically brief. The Roman Empire lasted for hundreds of years and its slavery was perpetuated.
