though she was normally a very introverted and quiet individual, blake was trying her best to not immediately push people away these days. sure, she liked escaping into the pages of a book as much as the next person, but she was also someone who loved getting to share that with people. the girl sitting next to her was a nice step forward; it made her smile.
giving the other a moment to think on it - she knew it was a big question, even if they were just getting to know one another - she nodded along as the other answered, understanding the situation. â iâm sorry you went through that, â she offered in return, not knowing quite what else to say. she herself had a set of parents who gave her nothing but independence, though it ended up costing her more than one would think. her childhood was⊠a bit messy, at best. â but i completely understand. weâre starting from the beginning - thatâs totally okay ! â that was another thing she was working on, trying to be optimistic. â if anything, itâs more fun that way. you have so much to choose from and experience - i just hope i can give you the best. â she laughed a bit.
the book in the faunas girlâs lap was a romance at itâs core, with a little bit of action, a tiny bit of magic, and a bit of suspense thrown in. all classic fairytales had a mix of everything in them, which - to her - was the big reason why they had such longevity. they could appeal to anyone and everyone.
even girls who had never gotten to read them before.
â i love love ! â it sounded a bit silly to say it like that; she laughed. â romance novels are some of my favorites. theyâre really pulpy and fluffy most of the time, they donât often have any sort of moral or message, but itâs nice to see someone get a happy ending every once and a while. â she made sure to not sound too pitiful when saying it - she had a good life, absolutely, but her first-hand experiences with love thus far had been pretty awful. â itâs a big theme of most fariytales - living happily ever after, riding off into the sunset, getting the one youâve been pining for at the end⊠â she couldnât help but let out a soft, dreamy sort of sigh at the thought.
despite having never read a fairytale or watched a lot of movies, the other did get the general vibe of things down. and she was a horror fan ! â youâd definitely love the older editions of most stories then. a lot of them are updated to be less scary, just so they can appeal to more people. but some of them are really dark and spooky - theyâre very atmospheric and really get you into the setting and story. â the tea shop had a small shelf of books, but none of them were what they were looking for. â if youâd like, i can let you borrow one or two of mine, one of these days ? theyâre really short, so you can get through each of them in a day, or even less, honestly. but iâve got a couple of first editions of certain collections at home, â she continued encouragingly.
She knew she did not have a normal upbringing- if one wanted to even call it that. Some days even Sally struggled to figure out what to consider her life before Porthaven. Nothing more than just a doll on the shelf for someone to admire. She had been a daughter in some fashion. Other times a bird in a cage. It wasnât anything like the shows she had seen on TV, but she knew enough that what they showed in media was glorified and not always accurate to reality. But still when it was all one had, sometimes those were the only examples she could really compare to.Â
But things were different now. They had to be.Â
âYouâre doing amazing,â She encouraged the other. When youâre at rock bottom, the only way to go is up. Thatâs where she was right now. Things could only get better from here. âAnd I trust your judgement, you seem to know a lot about these. So whatever you introduce me to I think Iâll enjoy it.â
Sallyâs smile brightened at seeing the other talk. Seeing someone be passionate about the things they enjoyed always made her day. It was nice to see others be happy. âLove is wonderful! Iâve never experienced it myself though,â Her tone turned wistful, trying to imagine a day where maybe she could have someone to care and cherish her, âItâd be nice though. Finding someone who just fits you so well. As if you were simply meant to be. No one really believes in things like that anymore, but Iâve always liked that part.âÂ
Her eyes widened at the offer, staring at the other with open shock. âReally-? Oh thatâs so nice of you- Yes! Please.â Her mind spun at the thought. This woman was so kind! âI donât think I ever gave my name,â The realization cut through the fog a bit thankfully so she could sort herself out, âIâm Sally. Sally Finkelstein.âÂ
