was just thinking bout you, happy 3 years on tumblrrrr I hope you’re doing well 💛
Hello and thank you lovely! That post was scheduled so long ago I forgot about it 😭 I know I have sort of dipped out of existence, I am going through a rough patch and I have a new job that's been keeping me busy, but I do check in on my Tumblr every now and then just to see how you and others are doing.
I've also noticed some of my long term readers re-liking old works of mine in my notifications, thank you bbys 💜

-> Ashton x GN!Reader
"You got me flowers?"
"Correction - I grew you flowers, Ash."
His brows pinch together, a frown tugging the corners of his lips down as he eyes the offered gift. You shift your weight from one leg to the other and back again, a restless and nervous energy buzzing through you.
Magic has always come easy to you, and your new group of friends can confirm that with what they've seen you achieve in battle. It's always been like this - power, chaos, shaped and twisted in the palm of your hand. Ever since you can remember, nature has favoured you and has tended to your needs in the right situations, from the skirmishes you've dealt with single-handed to the battles where you've been way out of your depth.
But this - this is what you thrive at.
Earlier, when dawn was breaking, you sat up in your bed and allowed that familiar flow of arcane energy travel down your arms and manifest into flowers, their stems curling around your fingers so perfectly - like old friends holding hands. Basking in the feeling, samples of different types of blooms responded to your words and touch. You imagined soft and healthy flowers, and your magic provided with ease. Eventually you had a selection of carnations, roses, sweet peas, and peonies to carefully wrap up in simple waxed parchment you had bought at the market the day before. It was a small bouquet, nothing too fancy, without a greeting card or a soft toy to accompany it, but that didn't make it any less beautiful.
The bunch, its weight comforting in your hands as you hold it towards Ashton, is tied together by a thin red ribbon - courtesy of Fearne. Your fingers flex with anticipation against the heart-shaped bow.
You had grown them with nothing but love and magic, and yet a blank stare was the only reaction the earth genasi provided. But here you both stand, watching each other carefully with an unspoken question in the air. Your shoulders sag slightly with relief as he takes the bouquet from you, one corner of his mouth pulled down in a frown.
A sliver of doubt makes itself at home in your mind. Are flowers such an offensive gift?
"What?" you ask with a forced smile, eyes flicking from his face to the bouquet and back. "You don't like them?"
"I've never... been given something so..." He struggles for a moment, words escaping him entirely. The frown on his face hardens, and he glances up to meet your gaze. In the corner of your eye you see a slight movement - their thumb gently stroking one of the velvet petals.
"Soft?" you weakly offer, feeling a slight pang of dejection in your chest.
"Thoughtful," he corrects. Breaking into an almost bashful grin, they shake their head slightly with only what you'd call amusement. "You're too fucking cute, you know that?"
Emotion wells up in your throat and you swear you feel warmth flood through your core, up your neck and spread across your face. Good. This is a good outcome. They're not offended. He likes the flowers. He thinks you're cute.
"They're symbolic, you know," you manage to croak out. He tilts his head at you, prompting you to elaborate. "Like, they have individual meanings. Like the peonies - they represent honour." He hums. "Wealth." That earns you a pleased scoff-laugh. "... Sometimes romance."
"Thanks," Ashton chuckles, gesturing with the bouquet slightly. "I, ah... Heh, I'm not used to this sorta thing, I guess. Not my usual style but... It's a welcome change." He huffs with a shrug, not meeting your eye. "It's different, y'know?"
They're nervous too. He likes the flowers. They haven't been given them before.
They think you're cute.
Before you can stop yourself, your voice takes initiative: "You're cute too." You nearly regret your words, but Ashton simply 'tsks' under their breath. He looks down at the bunch of flowers, considering them before plucking one of peonies, carefully drawing it from the rest of the flowers so that the bouquet stays intact. It's out of character, but the way the side of their mouth tugs into a concentrated frown is all too familiar.
"I can't do anything special with it," he says, "nothing like you, or even the less elaborate shit that Orym can pull with his Ashari background." He holds it out, the singular stem pinched between calloused fingers, a peace offering of some sort.
You grin and are about to take it, but Ashton withdraws their hand slightly and suddenly, just out of reach. The familiar cheeky glint in their eye is back, the boldness you know all too well. "Hey, do you have anywhere to be?"
You blink. "What, like right now?"
"Yeah. Like right now."
You tuck your bottom lip between your teeth and think. It's late afternoon, the day after a job well done for Lord Eshteross. The rest of the group were surely resting or shopping in preparation for the next errand, having agreed to meet back at the tavern after sundown for dinner and to plan your next move.
The day is yours to do as you wish.
"Why? You you got something in mind?"
"I guess I was thinking it'd be fun to hang out with you a little while longer." They reach up and scratch their jaw in thought. The orange tinted glow behind him catches in the slag glass in the side of their head, and you can't help but muse how someone so capable of destruction can look so fragile in the right light. "I mean, you still haven't seen all that Jrusar has to offer." Ashton notices your unconvinced expression and cocks an eyebrow, challenging you. "Is wanting go do a bit of sight seeing such a crime?"
"I don't know what your definition of 'sight seeing' is, but whenever you drag me someplace, we always end up trespassing on private property," you tease. "Besides, those flowers won't last very long without water, Ash. I may be magic but they certainly are not."
"I'm sure they can survive a little longer. They'll understand. After all," he smirks as he raises the single peony once more, this time tucking it behind your ear, "I've got a hot date to show around town."
Before you can simmer in the somewhat romantic gesture, Ashton pinches your nose and leaps out of range for any of your incoming attacks. You only manage to swat his shoulder once before giving up, instead letting him take your hand and lead and weave you through the city.
The bouquet stays safely nestled in the crook of his free arm, the heart-shaped bow standing out against the pale parchment.
