Kawaii Box giveaway for all kawaii lovers! <3
Yay! Hello tumblrrr! <3
Here's a blog update about the かわいい tokyo travel guide book by me and Ashley! <3
Last April, I drew the Sailor Soldiers wearing Kawaii / Harajuku-themed outfits! 。(⌒∇⌒。) Actually, their coordinates were based from me and my friends’ own outfits~ :3
Sailor Moon and Sailor Pluto were based from Reese's outfits.
Sailor Chibimoon and Sailor Neptune were based from Kaila's outfits.
Sailor Mercury and Sailor Uranus were based from Anne's outfits.
Sailor Mars was based from Kaye's outfit.
Sailor Venus was based from mine. xD
Sailor Jupiter was based from Mikee's outfit.
Sailor Saturn was based from Emika's outfit.
~~~
I am also planning to sell these as prints (either postcard set or framed prints) soon (Please do not reprint/reproduce)! ( ノ^ω^)ノ゚
Rainbowholic Meet-up
First of all, I am so grateful and happy to be one of the 12 girls invited by Kaila to her awesome motivational talk held at Mother’s Crepe, SM Megamall.
Kawaii boaaaaard ~ * U *
/)> w <(\ kyaaaaa~~~ <3
For me, this event is awesome because her words truly reached me and because I can relate to her as a creative person. I have heard relatives, priests, and other people talk about ‘motivation in life’ stuff but they really do not impress me. On the other hand, hearing inspiring creative people share their ways of being positive and reaching their dreams is really powerful.
I felt that this event was exactly that i needed right now because I feel stagnant and not progressive. Even though I know what I would like to do in the future [like becoming an Illustrator], I still feel pretty lost and demotivated. I haven’t drawn something in months. My passion for drawing was sucked away into oblivion because of many reasons. I grew tired of submitting plates that I really hated doing [but still I would do it because i know everyone needs a grounded foundation in art] and I ended up becoming a grumpy art student who would always cram and pass her requirements late. I would drag myself every day to school since second year. (Don’t get me wrong, I still love my university~). I grew exhausted from ‘pleasing’ professors and I ended up submitting mediocre stuff. I easily become overwhelmed with work and I end up avoiding it and doing it the ‘next time’. Procrastination is my everyday mantra. I became kinda numb and contented in receiving ‘okay’ grades. I really don’t like the state of my student life I’m having right now but I’m just demotivated to do anything about it despite the support I receive from my family (it also makes me feel guilty). The sad part about this, I’m not doing anything about it. And I just want to jump off a cliff with my crappy plates LOL.
DOKI DOKISSS <3 <3 <3 * U * ) / Ty for the goodies <3 Again, I’m so happy and grateful that my entry was chosen and I was invited to a kawaii motivational talk by Kaila <3
It’s an eye-opener, in a way, for me. Because I realized that her ways of becoming positive will be able to help me to move forward, even though it’s just an inch forward, because I know that these consecutive little steps will still make me able to reach my goal. And also I don’t want to race with anyone. I know that I will make progress in my own pace. I’m trying my best not to get envious about 16-24-year-old people making big leaps in life while I’m stuck here… I was struck by the words, “How much do you want it?”. Then I repeated the question on my mind, “How much do I really want to improve and become a professional visual artist?”.
I think that the ‘visualization’ thing or similar to a ‘Dream Map’ and her mini motivational reading (one of the ways shared by Kaila), will help me remind how much I wanted to reach my goal. And I also want to read the books she shared with us~ * U *
Also I tried looking back at my childhood creations (drawings, poems, short stories) and it was fun and it made me realize that “I have to reach these dreams of mine no matter what”. I will blog about it next time :D
Kaila’s narration of experiences, from changing the worst situations into good ones, were amazing. My words can’t describe how strong she was able to overcome those obstacles in her life. She’ll always be an inspiring person for me :3
12 inspired and happy kawaii girls at the end of the event~ <3
FA Visual Communication batch-mates <3
I’m glad to meet an awesome fashion designer, Justin Chantelle <3 I also buy clothes from her~ * U * ) b
Matching colors with the super kawaii brand ambassador, Gia Canta~ <3
Last but not the least, I was very happy to meet a fellow mori-kei enthusiast, Lara~! And i’m very inlove with her ensemble~!!!! <3 I hope we we’ll have a mori-kei shoot someday ^ 3 ^ ) /
I hope Kaila will be able to inspire more and more kawaii girls with her motivational talk, not only here in the Philippines, but around the world! I support the kawaii movement! And I’m excited for Kawaii in Manila 3~!!! <3
Rainbowholic Meet-up: Chasing Your Dreams!
It was October 18, when I found myself really engulfed with life and inspiration. Everything about that moment was really awesome that I want to cherish them for the rest of my life. It was a memorable meet-up, this meet-up with Miss Kaila (Rainbowholic).
Miss Kaila talked about her dreams and how she reached it, and everything that follows with it. The stories she shared were somehow close to mine—chasing one’s dream, or choosing something more convenient—and what she did really inspired me to go on.
She said that it was a really tough journey back then, but as long as one has a hold of what she wants to do, and what she wants to be, then everything will just follow. The strength of inspiration will power-up the sail to reach the destination of one’s dream!
If I’ll summarize my feelings on this event with just one word, I would say EMPOWERED. Miss Kaila is a living proof that one could chase her dreams even though it felt that it was too impossible. Through her life story and pieces of advice, I realized that I could do the same! I could be a better person! I could be myself, doing all my best to chase my dreams, with no one stopping me or discouraging me to go on.
I was really motivated to make a name card too as a Kawaii Lifestyle Blogger!
I am SO HAPPY that God used Miss Kaila to share how important dreams are, and knowing how to achieve it. I never appreciated dreams this much, because of what happened in the past, but now, I feel charged, inspired and ready to be a dream chaser!
Thank you so much Miss Kaila! and also the Kawaii PH team for being so awesome (I hope that I could be a part of this team, or just contribute to it—This is one of my dreams actually *.*)
Harajuku Fashion in the Philippines
I’ve been attending cons for more than ten years, and it was in anime/cosplay/j-pop conventions where I first learned about Harajuku fashion. At that time, there were certain fans for the cosplay, Harajuku fashion, and J-music, but we all get together in cons since it’s all about Japanese pop culture. I’m more of an anime fan at that time, I’d like to try cosplay but it’s not for me I guess. Or I’m just afraid of the reactions I’d get because I’m not a regular person. I have a disability. It was only after seven years before I gathered confidence to try cosplay. I did try quite a few times in my years in cons, but I cosplay very few characters that I want but I can still portray. But Harajuku fashion made me more diverse, dress-up the way I want, be creative, and more comfortable. I love the feeling more when they compliment my look because it is mine. I’m a very shy person, but that doesn’t mean I have to dress like others so I’ll be invisible. I am an artist, it’s just that I’d like to put the art on me than on canvass. The most successful fashion culture here is Lolita where every girl wants those beautiful frills and luxurious looks. I was one of them, I’m a period fashion fan before I’ve known what Harajuku fashion is. Awesome Lolita designers are popping everywhere. I remember the craze for top hats are just unbelievable! Sadly, over the years, Harajuku fashion had a new meaning. Costume. I’m not sure when it became a costume for many, but I think it’s when harem anime became mainstream and a lot of newcomers thought that cosplay is about taking pictures in costumes, being cute or cool, and have a chance to be a celebrity. Yes it’s a benefit, I’m cool with it if that is what you want, but the true meaning is dying. Nowadays, a lot of them has no idea what Harajuku fashion means. They call their lolita dresses as costumes. They’d PM me for a commission to make their costumes only to find out it’s a lolita dress and like to have them made in a really low quality fabrics. It makes me sad. I know how money can be so tight, but if you don’t want to be presentable at least and the only reason is your picture being taken, please do not wear it at all. You can still enjoy the community without dressing up. I understand that Harajuku fashion in the Philippines is hard to be accepted or to achieve because of the following misconceptions: First, because of the tropical conditions. However there are still subcultures that you can wear that are weather friendly like gyaru. If you’re into Lolita there are simpler dresses you can wear for summer. It goes as well for the other subcultures like mori girl, you can tone the layers down. Second, Filipinos are not ready yet to see such an eccentric kind of fashion. There are places where you wear shorts and spaghetti straps, and neighbors like to make up stories about you being a prostitute. But it doesn’t have to be as extreme as you see on magazines or your favorite band or idol. You just have to dig deeper and learn the lifestyle of a subculture you like to be able to wear them on streets. Sure you can turn heads because you look unique, but it doesn’t have to be extreme and make an impression to people who have no idea about Harajuku fashion that you’re wearing a costume. Third, Harajuku fashion burns a hole in your pocket. We live in a third world country and fashion is a luxury for many. It’s just that I invest more on my fashion items than other hobbies or wants. I have to give up a lot of things like playing video games, going out with friends more often. I became more resourceful, imaginative to be able to dress what I want. And I only go what I can afford, or I’d save up for something that I really want. Though it is my dream to see Harajuku fashion in the streets of Manila, I’m not asking everyone to be part of it because you might not be ready for other people’s reaction. I’ve been laughed or screamed at because they’re afraid of me. I’m only saying that please do not confuse Harajuku fashion from cosplay. They both have a place in my heart but Cosplay is about playing the characters that you love and Harajuku fashion is a lifestyle.
More than thankful. :-)
Where "Kawaii" is derived from
Hello dearies! So this time, I’ll be posting about two new friends of mine, who defines the word “kawaii” in so many ways~ I met them at the Doll Glam Beauty event and was just mesmerized by how they took Tokyo Fashion to the next level. Most Filipinos have a hard time grasping the idea of Kawaii and Tokyo Fashion, and most would think it’s either too much or too over the top, but then again, both Chiro and Wynona were able to break the wall of too much or over the top.
Chiro is who I’d call a professional artist when it comes to posing and styling. She can take both Mild and Wild into one look and make it “kawaii”. Her creativity in both styling and posing are what I’d call effortlessly kawaii~..
(credits to the photo owner)
Just look at how she combines an elegant look with a rocker style and just turn the photo into something that we call Tokyo Fashion. (plus I seriously love her backpack!) I personally love this style and would definitely wear this as an everyday look!
Her face has a really nice shape that accentuates her features more and one thing I have to say is, Chiro know’s how to work the camera~
(credits to the photo owner)
Tokyo fashion is a different thing from cosplaying, if you think she looks good in kawaii outfits, let her blow your minds with her cosplay, if I were her photographer, taking her pictures would be like butter and toast cause that’s how well they blend together! Looking forward to take chiro’s pictures in the future!
Wynona is simply a doll. She is effortlessly pretty, stylish and kawaii!~ Flawless in pictures and her creativity in posing is absolutely adorable! She kind of gives of the impression of a “punk-kawaii-doll” but at the same time, gives of this soothing feeling when you see her expressions on photos.
I just love how she looks in this photo! her soft hair falling down in a subtle manner forming her doll-like face and she has the most nicely shaped lips which goes well with her hairstyle. She took the “wild” and “too much” tokyo fashion into an elegant feel and look which people should also start noticing.
I love how most hair color goes so well on her, she looks good with red, blonde and even green hair. One thing I really like about Wynona is how she has different styles (in fashion, make up, hair) but still has this calm and serene look on all her pictures no matter the pose or theme, she still brings this elegant feel to everything she does. I hope we could do photoshoots together!
I would love to work with both Wynona and Chiro in the future and maybe they can also teach me on how to be kawaii.. =v=b
Lastly, here’s a photo of us together at the Doll Glam event!
aaannd… why am I so awkward… can’t even do the duck face correctly =3= aww yeah camera bomber…
anyway! I hope to see these two again and take more photos with them!
Thank you for reading and that’s it for today!
My weekends this September are all booked for events - and Kawaii in Manila 2 was just the start. I wasn’t able to take much photos ‘cause I was busy selling and teaching but but here’s a mini photodiary of the event, which was super duper fun!
Hello! 5 days to go until Kawaii in Manila 2! These are some of the posters I made for the activities! <3
Sorry for being so inactive for a long period of time! ;3; *bows*
Last month was one of those "I can’t believe this happened" moments.
This is considering I have a day job and a whole lot of projects to work on. Of course, I made compromises to finish everything before proceeding with this trip, and I’m glad I did.
I’ve been documenting bits of Life in...
I really love your blog and I love you. All of your cosplays are so fantastic. Yours is the only cosplay blog I follow because yours is the only one I like enough to follow. And so pretty much I was wondering if you would please be my friend?
Hello, anon! I’m really happy to hear that you enjoy my posts! However, on the subject of becoming friends, I’m afraid I am at a disadvantage as I don’t know anything about you.
(I get questions like this a lot and I have been meaning to address it. So this is not just for this particular anon but everyone who have asked similar questions.)
As much as I would like to think it would be so easy to become friends with someone just by asking, I’ve come to learn that it’s not that simple. Perhaps it is particularly true for someone like me, since I share photos and some stories about myself and my friends. People tend to build expectations, and get the feeling that they know me so well — when in reality they don’t know much at all. There’s more to who I am than what I choose to share online, after all.
On a bit of a darker note, I have had my trust betrayed in the past by people who claimed to have wanted to be friends. I hope this helps you understand why I am being kinda guarded.
That does not mean I am shutting out the possibility. I have been honest with you, and that is something friends would do, isn’t it? If you decide on trying again not anonymously, please don’t ask directly if we can be friends, as I believe that friendship is not something that is built on one simple question.
Maybe try interacting with me first. Perhaps you could leave comments on my public page posts in which we could discuss something we might have in common. I don’t know. Maybe you have other ideas.
It might be worth noting that I’m not fond of private messages in which people try to engage me in small talk like, “What’s up?” THE SKY IS UP I’m uncomfortable with one-on-ones with someone I’m not familiar with, I’m not good at small talk, and there are so many things that are “up” that I would exhaust myself figuring out where to begin. Hahah. I don’t intend to hurt anyone’s feelings; I am just being real here.
I guess it’s kind of like in real life: Casually exchanging comments in a public place is no problem. But when someone unfamiliar sends a private message for unclear reasons, I feel like I’ve been cornered in an alley. (If they have a question or a definite message to express then that’s fine.)
If you do decide to try leaving me comments, just be sincere and be true to who you are. I can’t promise anything, but that sounds like a pretty good place to start. :)
