Mob psycho 100 is funny cos mob desperately wants to be in a sports anime but fate has other plans
Im so pissed about the ending they gave alucard in the last season of castlevania. Like, its obviously heartbreaking and it seems like hes going to be turned into a villian, which i do not like at all, but i would be okay with it if it at lease made *sense*. It just was so obviously 'we need to make this happen for his character arc' and it was just so rushed and didnt make sense for any of the characters involved. For one the two that attacked him showed genuine care for him not long ago and nothing he did really warranted that kind of reaction. It would have made more sense if they were secretly against him all along and acting but to go from actually caring about him to murder with no inbetween steps makes no sense, especially since he never gave them a hard no to any of the things they asked about and they never asked him to show them now with any force. It kinda paints them as unrealistically stupid to have them not even try another route first which kinda comes off as racist since they're the only aisian characters so far with any significant screen time.
And alucard is really dumb in this situation too. Even if they got to that point where theure trying to kill him, which makes no sense in the first place, there are like 100 different non leathal ways he could have gotten them off of him with a magic sword. He could have pushed them really hard with the flat or the pomel. He could have cut off their weapon hands and knocked the knives to the side. He could have just blocked their knives and used the force to push them back. He could have held it against their necks as a threat. Any single one of these things could have been followed by a look, obviously i could have killed you just then but I didnt because I really dont want to. Can you just let me out now so we can talk about this? I can show you the fucking magicky rooms right now if you want, and the fucking 300 servants quarters if you insist I didnt realize it was that important to you. Like i literally didnt show you that part of the castle bc its boring. And them being mad that he doesnt personally escort them there makes absolutely no sense because they have complete free reign of the castle and even admitted to wandering at night with no restriction and alucard was just like aight cool.
It's sloppy lazy writing in order to hamfist in some sort of plot development and character arc fodder. It's literally man wife dies so he can do revenge type of throwing away their characters for another's character development but worse bc usually those at least make some fucking sense. It's like a fake deep oooh its destined that all vampires become.evil no matter how hard they try bc humans are nasty. Like if they wanted to do that it would be easy to make characters who wanted him dead bc his dad was dracula and they dont care that he killed him bc they hate all vampires so much. But instead the motivation is.... they didnt get a personal tour of all the bathrooms??? Fuck all the way off.
It especially sucks bc the shows writing is usually strong so its just like... where did this come from. Did you have to have two dramatic evil sex scenes at the same time making you look puritanical. Are you racist. Do you hate sex or poly amory. Do you think people with ptsd are stupid. Or are the writers suddenly so lazy they dont care if one of the main characters plot arc makes any fucking sense.
And its not like they need him to be the villan, they got this whole terf squad to fight. Who are also poly lesbians which... have we seen any good guys be poly or gay?? And Dracula could easily be resurrected. They do it in the games all the time. They almost did it in this same season.
It just pisses me off so much because its bad lazy writing all to try to fuck up my favorite character. Like he's theirs its their right to fuck him up but at least put some effort in please. I know its stupid but i literally cant sleep because of this.

My resources for animation art and illustration learning
I’m trying to be more available and present for questions and advice about portfolio/career things. In the past one of the issues in my availability has been that questions I get are very broad or general. The other issue is that I don’t always have time, and things get lost in my email box. So I thought for starters to share what has been useful to me in recent years. Mind you, this is not general masterpost of anything, it is just interesting tidbits from my point of view that might be useful to others.
Perspective and layout:

Thomas Romain’s tips for perspective. Perspective is hard in the beginning, but I promise it gets easier the more you do it. This is a good reference for whenever I feel confused or struggling.
Books:
Marcos Mateau-Mestre: Framed Ink highly recommended! Informative, for beginners and professionals alike.
Tod Polson: The Noble Approach a look into animation history particularly from layout and design point of view. For anyone who’s interested in very graphic and shape oriented approach to animation layouts and philosophy behind it.
Hans Bacher: Dream Worlds a book that takes a quick look on all aspects of animation, I think it’s a good resource for sparking interest in variety of departments in animation and understanding how feature films are made. Often referenced when explaining basics of visual development and concepting for animation.
Character anatomy:
100 Tuesday Tips With Griz and Norm
http://grizandnorm.squarespace.com/tuesday-tips a great collection of variety of helpful tips for drawing from two Disney feature artists.
https://line-of-action.com/
Where to start with online figure drawing. It’s free! The goal for figure drawing should be to draw meaningfully. I’ve spent years of my life doodling and only absorbing a little bit of information, but I think there are more effective ways to learn. These exercises I do are to make me better at drawing dimensionally and so that the characters are acting and interacting in a space.
Exercise 1: Drawing long sessions - taking the time to observe. We should always aim to draw the characters as 3dimensional, even if desired result is heavily stylized and simplified. In the beginning, it might be more helpful to start with thinking anatomy as boxes and balls and pyramids (I draw boxes, but different artists have different methods), I’ve found it helps me to improve my perspective and dimensions. Starting to draw muscles and skeleton straight away, it can be difficult to place them correctly, until there’s enough knowledge to break them down into more basic shapes. I find it takes time to start understanding and really visualizing things in three dimensions, but these exercises help.
A great demonstration: https://fyeaharttips.tumblr.com/post/23113717282/eyecager-tutorials-done-by-stanislav-prokopenko
Exercise 2: Drawing over photographs. I saw storyboard artist Ethan Becker on Youtube teach this and found it useful. I do this sometimes, because this too, helps to see how exactly all building blocks of human/creature are acting in different poses and action. The point is not to just idly doodle-trace over outlines, it’s to learn to see the underlying geometry.
Exercise 3: Croquis - the short poses. These exercises are to particularly push the line of action, the direction and force of the pose. It’s also good for seeing how well the basic shapes are working and how they stretch and bend in motion.
Color and light (painting):
Studying how light works immensely helps to figure out how color works. It’s also a necessary skill in BG painting or visual development for animation and very helpful for illustration. Other than that, I’m including a few videos of painting that I think are interesting and have been relevant to what I’m doing.

With these, a little disclaimer! My area of knowledge is mainly color and paint for backgrounds, illustration and a bit of character design. When it comes to storyboards and animating, I have next to no experience and there are many others who would be better to ask about these things.

This was so ridiculously drawn out and the conclusion was so obvious yet still I couldn’t tell where this was going
I’m glad that Nick is this supportive and accepting of criticisms and commentary. I personally didn’t take Gary as an antisemitic character (which says more about me and how I need to pay more attention and listen to other people’s struggles) but I’m glad I saw this and can see how the character can be and IS harmful to people. I really don’t know what to do with this information going forward, but I will be a lot more careful with any of my writings involving him(which I only have one of).
It’s so good to have people like Nick to look up to and learn to do better from.
