Some part of me got ruined when I realized the whole fandom [in the past] would go along with jolly "shdgfhjdfgjhs" to post after post about manga Seto Kaiba just being a pro-abuse power fantasy for 12-year-olds at a time when I was still struggling with and quite poor at being able to articulate my own ideas and feelings until I couldn't even look at YGO (my lifelong interest) without getting kind of sick and I couldn't talk to anyone about it. So it's always just kind of there.

People can hate Kaiba and it's not like critiques are required to be extensive. I have to remind myself of it.

Yes, it's pretty understandable and fair that someone who loves Jonouchi would loathe Kaiba and it's understandable and fair that fans wanted more Yugi, more time for Yugi to shine or sink and be the focus. It's more than fair to think Kaiba is an obnoxious ass at [x] point(s) in the series. If I came to the series at a different time in my life, how would my own thoughts be different? That's all fair.

So we're at the point of "if you like canon Seto Kaiba, you're horny for him and want to suck his dick."

I also don't get why having compassion for Yugi and for Atem and for Seto Kaiba and being alright with various ships existing is considered impossible.

The stuff I'm not into in YGO: that's my business. I don't need to tell others how to feel.

And if I talk about things in my life and how YGO and Seto Kaiba have helped me through or that I can use YGO to reflect on, then I'm a dumby who's just projecting.

My whole middle school and high school and college years are and were like a blur and I avoided people. Receeding into yourself like that takes a lot of time to get out of, and when you're trying to pull yourself out there are more difficulties. Undertale with the character Flowey understood it takes a long time.

Yes, Seto Kaiba sucks at so much and has hurt a lot of people. People in fandom have always hated him and loved him and been meh over him and it's not like there aren't fair debates to be had. He's not real, but i am, and I don't like being called shallow or "horny" over the fictional story and character I've loved for decades and literally saved my life. Sorry for enjoying the character with ongoing issues that aren't neatly tied-up. If you aren't making friends ages 15 - 18, just a bad kid.

As time has gone on, I just see so much of YGO as being about coming to terms with death -- and I don't necessarily mean dying to be clear. It's broader and vaguer than that, scattershot and uneven. Just approaching the concept of death and trying to come to terms with it. Maybe it's kind of word mush to put it that way.

kaiba’s DSOD space station works great as a metaphor for how isolated/distant/disconnected he arguably feels from the rest of the world, which is excellent groundwork for why he then goes to such great lengths for the one person he feels so ferociously connected to
