I just think it's extra meaningful that Jack wanted his ashes scattered on Brokeback Mountain when you consider that he HATED everything about the place itself: "No more beans", "I'm commutin' four hours a day", "That goddamn pup tent smells like cat piss or worse", "Aguirre's got no right makin' me do this" etc...
Seriously, without Ennis, he basically wanted the final resting place of his human remains on this earth to be where he had a shitty summer job with an asshole boss. TWICE!
So, what this means is that his love for Ennis was so powerful, so great, that it eclipsed all the bad experiences he ever had there, to the point where the mountain became synonymous with their whole relationship, where he wished he could stay forever, even in death.
Oh, this really is THE love story of all time...
