"Yes," Tarzan answered to Jane's question of whether all was well. "Elephants needed a little help." Tarzan seemed to be thinking for a moment. Jane had certainly taught Tarzan a lot since she had first come to the jungle and the two of them had met each other. Yet, even so, there was still a lot for the newly crowned King of the Jungle to learn from his tiny bride. And that included the names of some animals in English that he still wasn't sure exactly how to say the names of.
"Mmh-" He grunted at this point, as if he were trying to remind himself of something before pulling back to start making a few motions with his hands before a sound quite like the growling and hissing of a crocodile escaped him.
"Big ones. Angry. Had to make them leave Elephant territory." He explained, then smiling at Jane and reaching a hand up to tenderly caress her cheek. Tarzan then lifted his chin in a jerking motion towards the gibbon she had been sketching.
"Being nice?"
It was times like this, when Jane truly felt sheâd made the right call in staying in the jungle. Tarzan was entirely too precious, when he did his best to convey what he couldnât yet in English. Of course, the terribly accurate crocodile hiss was plenty to go off, but the gestures? Oh, oh she couldnât with this man. Jane loved every moment sheâd spent as Tarzanâs treasured bride, and there was still so much that Jane could learn, in turn, from her big, strong groom.
ââCrocodilesâ, Tarzan. The word you were searching for was âcrocodilesâ,â she assisted, her cute little nose scrunching a bit as she smiled a smile as bright as sunlight. Her still flushed cheek was warm, beneath his gentle caress, as she leaned into his touch. Surely, poor Tantor was still recovering from the fright those crocodiles mustâve given him.
âOh, quite nice,â Jane affirmed, turning her sketchbook so Tarzan could see the sketch. It was nearly done, and even if the gibbon left she could still finish the piece. âI couldnât have asked for a better model, she kept perfectly still the entire time! It was certainly easier than sketching Manu!â
"Cro-ck-o-diles..." Tarzan mimicked, blinking once... twice... then giving Jane a little smile of his own. She was sweet, precious as they came, and he enjoyed just listening to her talk. Watching her sketch was also a fun pastime that he indulged in whenever he had a free moment. Ever since the gorilla troupe had come to reside in the clearing underneath of the tree that Kala had revealed to him had been his home when he was a baby, there had been... just time. So much of it. They had time to just be with each other, to relax and enjoy precious time unlike when the troupe had been consistently on the move.
"Manu playful. Like to run. Run with Jane, like when we met." Tarzan's tone was a little bit teasing now as he pulled Jane somewhat closer to him, nuzzling his nose into her cheek slightly before looking at the sketch she turned to show him. It was an almost perfectly complete sketch. If Tarzan hadn't interrupted, she probably could have finished it in a few more minutes, yet it was still complete enough that Jane could finish it.
"Zora look happy." Yes, poor Tarzan's English was still relatively broken, not like when he spoke in gorilla to the rest of the troupe. There, it was Jane's speech that was often broken, if only because the two were still trading knowledge and learning how to speak each other's tongue. "Be careful. Don't want Zora steal drawing, too." Tarzan teased again, pressing a soft kiss to Jane's sweet, slender and yet perfectly plump cheek.
You'd think Jane would be more aware of her surroundings, or at least learn to be, living in the jungle. She was it's queen, after all...
...but that was just it. She was the queen, wife of the King of the Jungle himself.
Yes, she felt she shouldn't burden her darling husband because she was so utterly focused on her sketching again, but how could Jane not allow herself to relax, when she knew that she would always be safe as long as Tarzan was patrolling this wild terrain? Plus, she was well within the 'safe zone' (as safe as the African jungle could be, anyways). Most predators didn't linger (at least, the smart ones) too close to the heart Gorilla Lands because Tarzan was one of them.
Threaten a gorilla (or the Porters), and you'd be on the end of Tarzan's spear faster than you could say 'mercy'.
Tarzan, that sweet, passionate, dashing wild man that had so gently taken Jane's heart and cradled it, and her, in his strong embrace...how could Jane do anything but give up civilized society for a man who treated her like no other would? Tarzan, who hadn't been raised in the overbearing patriarchal society Jane and Archimedes had sailed in from?
Speaking of...
"Oh my!" the tiny Englishwoman exclaimed with a start, pencil flying right out of her hand once again (thank heaven for the fact she'd lifted it off her sketch, and the fact that this drawing session hadn't occurred in a tree) for the umpteenth time since they'd gotten married. Jane quickly relaxed, though, giggling as her cheeks flushed and her heart fluttered at her beloved's enduring tenderness.
"Goodness, Tarzan, you'd think I'd be used to you sneaking up on me by now!" she spoke, setting the sketchpad on her lap and resting her hands on Tarzan's toned arms.
"I take it all's well, Love?"
"Yes," Tarzan answered to Jane's question of whether all was well. "Elephants needed a little help." Tarzan seemed to be thinking for a moment. Mischief.
Pure and simple mischief.
That was what her sweet beau had in mind as he slowly began to sneak up from the very tops of a tree down toward where Jane was working on a sketch of a nearby gibbon. When Jane removed pencil from paper for but a moment, Tarzan took his chance to strike.
He was quick to wrap his arms around her slender waist from behind, nuzzling his cheek into the side of her tender, slim neck with a playful little growl indicating that he was happy to see her after a long day of patrolling the forests to assure the safety of the troupe of gorillas.
"Jane." His voice was as tender as it always was whenever he spoke to her.
