She let out a soft laugh th hand on his cheek slipped down to his shoulder. “You’re right, anyways why, take a copy when the original wants you…”  Even though he was only two or three inches taller then her she felt as if the time it took her to raise up to his level was an eternity. Yet, the time it took for her to lean in seemed like just a second, almost immediately over powered by the feeling of his lips against hers, something she had longed for for so long. 

to say he wasn’t expecting her lips to meet his would be a major understatement. he was getting ready to give her some kind of witty and corny response when he felt soft lips on his. it took a few moments for him to process what was actually happening but when he did his arms found their way around her way as he kissed her back. this moment was everything he imagined but better, because it wasn’t just a dream it was real. this was happening and he never thought it ever would.

She let out air she didn’t realize she been holding in when he smiled she nodded in agreement before stepping closer giving his hand a soft squeeze. “We were both kinda slow weren’t we?” She was smiling more then she realized,  her free hand came up to his face pushing some of his hair behind his ear. “You sure you want whatever this is gonna end up being?”

“yeah kinda,” he said with a slight chuckle. seeing her smile made his brief moment of embarrassment worth it. he took another step toward her, the two now being extremely close, as he looked down at her. “i’m sure, we both try to find each other in the people we date, and it doesn’t work out. why try to find copies when we can both have the originals.”

She took a step towards him, mainly because she at first didn’t know what to say, she knew what she wanted to get across to him. He’d been her best friend for so long that when these feelings started to emerge she ignored them until she hardly noticed but now, it was happening. And she was terrified…”I wanted them to be a carbon copy of you, they never were and it just felt so wrong.” she shrugged looking at Raj. “I just couldn’t wrap my head around the idea of you ever feeling the same way… so i just ignored it. I shouldn’t have, I should’ve said something.”

after letting what she had said to him soak in, a radiant smile graced his face. he never thought that she would reciprocate what he was feeling towards her. he felt so much lighter now, not just because of finally being honest with how he felt but also knowing that they would be okay and possibly even better than that. he took her hand in his and looked directly at her, feeling more confident as the conversation went on. “we both should have said something but it is what it is. we can’t change the past.”

She gave him a fleeting smile,processing what he was saying to her became easier as it went on. “I remember going on dates and not thinking of them and if they’d get a second date because they never would, I would just thinking of coming home and telling you every little thing they did wrong, even if they were the nicest guy in the world.” She shrugged looking up at him. “I just wanted to talk to you at the end of the day…” She swallowed a lump in her throat before shrugging a second time. “Do you still feel just like that?”

raj always wondered why she was so hard n her dates. as much as he hated to admit it, it seemed like she hated dated some fairly decent to great guys and yet no one ever really made the cut. he didn’t mind that one bit though, he always secretly hoped they would mess up during the date giving the something to talk about that wouldn’t leave him feeling lousy. he looked at her and simply nodded, not trusting his voice to give away of how truly nervous he was for her reaction to his response.

“A while…” She lets the words sink trying them in her own voice. It takes her a second to stand up, She’s looking at his back and hates but doesn’t know if she really wants him to turn around just in case this is some elaborate joke, and on the other side of the bar he was laughing, yet she knew deep down, he wasn’t. She need conformation. “Look at me and say it, please Raj.”

hearing her come towards him created a lump in his throat and his mouth to dry up. raj turned around hesitantly, still not looking at her. he didn’t know what to say to her. it felt like an eternity that he stood there trying to find the words to say to her. looking up, raj wasn’t sure how she was taking it all in but he had already put himself out there, he might ass well get it all out now. “i don’t know when exactly it happened, i just remember you having a date and i had to play the supportive best friend role when inside i just wished it was me you were with instead of him.”

She just sat there his words hadn’t registered until he got up and to his bar. “You…” Just like that it hits her like a truck, basically her grandmother’s voice rang as a little taunt she’s heard thousands of times when it came to Raj.It was all in a new light and everything she did feel was like a punch in the gut it took the breath out of her. “You should’ve- How long have you known?”

he thought about lying and saying he was just joking and making up a realistic lie of what was bothering him, but he knew it wouldn’t work. no matter how true and real sounding a lie was from him, ember could read him and know he was lying. “a while,” he said with a sigh with his back turned towards her, he didn’t know if he wanted to see the look on her face. he was just waiting for things to go downhill.

She wanted to laugh but she couldn’t get over the feeling he was hiding something from her.  He obviously wasn’t telling her something and it hurt to be blunt about it. “I just what? Did I do something again? Raj you should’ve told me.”

“i have feelings for you,” he blurted out. he didn’t mean to do so but he couldn’t stand the look of hurt she displayed. when his brain caught up with what his mouth had just said his eyes widened. raj stood up from the couch walking back to his bar. he didn’t want to another drink just to put some distance in between them. “i shouldn’t have said that.”

“Of course not, blood is thicker than water.” She leaned forward a bit leaning her head on her palm looking up at him she shook her head, a hand reaching up to hold his hand slightly. “No, because I know you’re lying, Raj just tell me.”

“sometimes, other times not so much but you know what i always say. you can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can’t pick your family.”  he thought about what may happen if he told her the truth. he wanted to get it off his chest but he didn’t want to get shot down or cause a strain on their friendship. “i..you just...nothing, it’s nothing.”

No matter that it was corny, Ember couldn’t help but smile and laugh a little. “Oh, I’m your favourtie girl now?” She teased nudging him with her elbow slightly. Leaning her head back on his shoulder she pouted slightly, her hand going over to his that was over her own shoulder . “You sure?”

he knew she was teasing but there was a lot of truth to his previous statement. “come on you know you’re my favorite girl, well obviously behind mom and grandma but like can you blame me for that?” he shrugged, he normally was able to at least fake being okay but he tended to be much more honest when he drank, much to his dismay. “if i say yes will you forget about it?”

She laughed a little getting more comfortable against him as the opening credits began. “Oh yeah but we gotta get this straight I am red velvet cake or maybe confetti cake.”  At his words she glanced up at his face furrowing her brow she sat up a little. “Raj? You okay?”

“oh you are definitely red velvet cake. my favorite cake for my favorite girl.” he thought about what he said and laughed at how corny it was. “you know that was extra corny and sappy, and yeah i’ going to act like i didn’t say it.” he looked at her and shrugged, he was in his feelings but wasn’t really up to talk about it. “yeah, i’m good.”

“You’re breaking my heart here Raj, my grandmother already knows you love her, I need ta know.”  Of course she knew how much he cared about her, just teasing him about it was something she’d done for so long. Leaning into his side she took the remote from him flipping through multiple channels before picking a movie they had seen a couple times but Ember still loved it so, it never really seemed to get boring for her. “Of course our friendship is more then that, I just might’ve decided on staying home and making you come over. Yet you still adore me.”

he rolled his eyes and sighed, it was hard to actually say no to her. he could dance around things until she forgot or let it go but hardly ever could he say no. “you know i love you like a fat kid loves cake.” it didn’t surprise raj in the choice of what was put on his tv. it seemed like no matter how much they watched it, it was always a go to for them, mainly because ember enjoyed it so much. “it’s really hard not to.”

“ don’t even try and deny it, I have screenshots young man, then again I was being my most annoying but it’s still screenshots.” Sitting back on the couch she slide into the back head tilted to look up at him. Out of her entire day the time she spent with Raj just seemed better a thousand less stressful, She let out an airy laugh at his last comment. “Yeah, I’m so special that I got you. fucking super special, to get someone like you to buy me fake warhead drinks.”

“okay fine you read for it, i’ll actually say it. I love...grandma” he teased and laughed. it wasn’t often he gave her the satisfaction of actually saying he loved his best friend. but he did often times make up for it in his actions. he looked down at her and put his arm around her as he turned the tv on and held out the remote so she could find something for them. “oh so you are just here for the free alcohol and here i thought our friendship was better than that.”

“i thought it was pretty genius myself. how about this one… heat, pressure, and time. the three things that make a diamond, are also the three things like make a waffle.” cora wiggled her eyebrows in a silly manner. “are you really impressed now?”

“honestly i have never had my mind blown in a way that you have just done, well done. i like the way you think,” he said and laughed. “color me very impressed.”

“But you lovee me, why take joy from me suffering?” She took a sip from her glass. In all honesty she enjoyed every second with Raj, even though slightly tipsy Raj had recently become one of her favourite types of Raj to be seen. She rolled her eyes and laughed slightly. “Oh yeah because every guy keeps fake warhead drinks in his house just to keep his best friend pleased.” She got up walking to his counter filling up her glass.

“i can neither confirm or deny that accusation. i have no clue what you are talking about. what is this love that you speak of?” no other person really saw this side of raj other than ember. he always felt this sense of comfort and easiness when he was with her, and it brought out a more playful him. “well i mean we both know you are here all the time, it makes sense to have it here plus i don't know em, you’re special i guess.”
