Oh do you LOVE a lamp scarf Paxton do you LOVE it the way you LOVE it when you’re hanging out with your boy but your plans get interrupted because his girl who just happens to be best friends with the ex that you’re totally over is asking him to get booze but it’s cool because you LOVE driving to two different liquor stores when his bad fake gets confiscated and you LOVE flirting with the cashier at the second one so he doesn’t look too closely at yours and you LOVE walking into a knowledge-themed game night to compete against your whip-smart ex-gf and the high-achieving handsome dude she’s moved on from you with and you LOVE watching him hold her hand all night while you sit next to her on the couch but you definitely do not LOVE the way her legs look in that minidress or the way the dude glowers at you when you tell her you broke up with the girl who just wasn’t enough like her but it’s fine because you LOVE how you’re totally mature and over her and you LOVE that you’re just friends and you LOVE to see her at ease until all of a sudden she’s running upstairs and you aren’t really thinking but where did that dude go he’s not doing his job and is she okay and then you’re standing outside her room while she’s crying and it doesn’t matter how cool you are because it’s Devi and she’s hurting and friends don’t let friends cry alone at parties but you’re clearly not supposed to be here she’s moved on and clearly she likes this guy because the candles and the LAMP SCARF and all you can do is gently pull a smile out of her and coax her back to the party and it’s fine it’s totally chill you can totally do this friend thing but your friend’s face is a mess and you can’t do anything about the puffiness but there’s mascara everywhere and all it would take is a second to wipe it away but then you’re looking into her eyes and touching her face and it’s too familiar and it’s not chill anymore and you know it because you jump out of your skin when her boyfriend comes upstairs and catches you doing the thing you weren’t going to do anymore in the dim lighting but you don’t want to make it worse don’t want to make her cry anymore don’t want to dwell on the fact that that guy isn’t going to get a chance to LOVE the LAMP SCARF because you’re the one in her room and I don’t know I’m just saying maybe what you love isn’t the lamp scarf after all
