thinking abt how kubo sidelined chad mega-hard for no good reason. why did he do tht im still so betrayed by the fact that kubo didnt even give chad a real character arc. why even make him a main character if u were just gonna abandon him in the end. he didn't even get to stay ichigo's best friend bc kubo stole that role from him and gave it to ishida by the end of the series. chad wasn't even there when ichigo cut down ywach bc kubo relegated him to fighting fucking statues w/ ganju. and then to top it all off kubo really said "fuck what limited characterization ive given chad throughout the series, fuck his backstory and goals, he's gonna become a professional boxer and use his fists for money instead of protecting the people he loves bc i truly do not give a fuck anymore". i'm just sad idk chad rights 2022 someone write a fix-it fic where chad at least gets to be there in the end. 😭

I often see the (very legit) gripe that Chad got cheated out of power-ups/good fights at the end of the series, but even moreso, I feel like Chad got cheated out of backstory. Who were his parents, and how did they die? Was one or both of them attacked by a Hollow, as the Fullbringer Arc would suggest? (I’m re-watching that arc right now, but as far as I can tell, there’s no actual proof that Chad and Orihime are Fullbringers… just that they are similar to Fullbringers) Why did he come to Karakura after the death of his grandfather, since he was born in Okinawa? Does he have an inheritance or any relatives that support him? More than anything else, though, I really want a visit to Chad’s inner world (do not tell me he doesn’t have one, of course he has one). There was a possible glimpse into it during the Zanpakutou Spirits arc, but it just looked like the town in Mexico where he grew up. That’s… a good start, I guess, but I want more. Is there a spirit representation of his powers? Latin American folklore is chock full of ghost and monster stories. It’s been said numerous times that Chad’s powers are Hollow-esque in nature, and I think it would be interesting for him to have a somewhat sinister guiding spirit. I don’t have any good ideas, but I just really want some dedicated Chad-stan with an ao3 account to blow onto the scene and write me 200k words of Chad world-building, please and thank you.

attractiveness and morality - or how people think with their metaphorical dicks instead of their brains

people are fucking horny over the villain characters in bleach, i mean specifically the male ones because as we know the female villains are nonexistent lol. but it’s not hard to see how attractive the male characters are even though i just refuse to acknowledge men unless i have too.

however, there is an issue with how we perceive the characters based on how attractive they actually are, more along the lines of how people will excuse any offensive behavior based on physical attractiveness

Misogynists blow Orihime’s minor character flaws waaaay out of proportion in comparison to other characters in the series and it’s so obnoxious and lame.

Like come on. Many other characters have murdered, tortured, abused, or manipulated people, a few people committed genocide or mass murder or were planning on doing so, a couple people are cannibals, etc. etc. the list goes on.

But nahhh we won’t make a peep about that, instead let’s talk about how this teenage girl who is kind and compassionate towards everyone is the devil and bears the weight of every sin in Bleach.

The minor character flaws of teenagers, especially girls, are not equal to the morally reprehensible and evil things adult characters do, and it does not warrant the same sort of reaction. Orihime needing help in battle is not really even a flaw at all compared to the things other characters do like, I dunno, murder? Abuse?

People who act like that sort of minor thing in a character deserves outrage and insults, then they try to pass off their reaction as legit and fair criticism, are misogynists through and through. They let the morally reprehensible things adults (especially male characters) do go uncommented on and ever-so-conveniently leave them out of the equation when determining the weight of character flaws. All the while, they target particular characters (especially women/teenage girls) and act outraged at the minor flaws those characters possess or the small moments of weakness they have, even though in the grand scheme of things it’s barely even a problem.

The misogyny ingrained in fans’ minds from years of thinking fictional women are deserving of punishment when they don’t meet expectations is what causes them to scrutinize every single move female characters like Orihime make while ignoring the horrible morally wrong things adult male characters in Bleach do. It’s a much larger issue seen in all media, not just a particular shonen series. The cause, misogyny, is a systemic social issue that permeates everything in our society. And it certainly has infested the brains of many Bleach main pairing shippers.

It’s a big trend that when shippers of a piece of media get angry that things didn’t go their way, a lot of them look for something to blame. And it’s no surprise that many Bleach shippers buy into scrutinizing and insulting female characters as blame for whatever they feel wronged for. Some fans even have the gall to say that they are doing these things to particular fictional women in the name of feminism or “out of concern for her”, which is, well, very twisted. Even before the ending of Bleach, though, Orihime has always been downright demonized for the smallest littlest tiniest things that are barely even flaws like needing help in battle while no one talks about all the murdering and unethical things lots of other characters do. It’s truly awful.

I dunno how exactly to end this… I just think the whole thing of focusing on Orihime’s flaws when literally every other character in the series has bigger flaws is a very twisted and misogynistic thing to do no matter how much the fans who do that deny it. Fans need to grow up and grow out of their misogyny. They need to start judging the behavior of characters in a more appropriate and fair way. The misogyny is so transparent and they’re not fooling anyone with half a brain.

TLDR; Orihime is a character with a good heart and has done very, very little wrong compared to other characters. Don’t take a minor character flaw she has, twist it, blow it way out of proportion, then call it “being concerned about her” to relieve anger over a different issue. Because that’s misogynistic.

Baseline drawing for my Drawing 1 class, first time in over two years I’ve actually picked up a pencil to work on a drawing project. It’s slow, but I’m finally starting to get my old interests back.

not to be like a party pooper and talk abt this AGAIN but to actively ignore the way kubo very blatantly clearly took inspiration from literal n*zi’s and fascist germany in regards to the quincys isnt just stupid but willfully ignorant and harmful and ur not doing anyone any favours by trying to divert attention away to say ‘he took inspo from other places too!!’

the quincys take inspo from a lot of different pieces of literature, pieces of history and mythos sure. there’s a lot of strong biblical imagery specifically in regards to angels and christian iconography with their powers, strong templar imagery with the way they function but the most prominent and base for the quincys culture is the german shit and the german shit is quite obviously based on fascist german shit. not just ‘prussia and the holy roman empire’ period germany which some people seem to insist on that he took inspo from instead (which is really fucking dumb to pretend like that makes it any better because u know... the n*zis also took inspo from prussia and the holy roman empire and their ‘ancient history’ as a point of pride and its now tainted for that reason so it doesn’t make any fucking difference. nobody sees an iron cross now and thinks ‘ah yes the symbol of ancient german warriors.’ they think ‘oh it’s that alternate n*zi logo.’)

he names the elite quincy guards after the /S//S, he has characters wear coloured arm bands across the shoulders, their uniforms are decked out very specifically in a manner that resembles hugo boss’ designs (and he likes that so much in fact he’s put it into another characters designs for burn the witch), the quincys had a moment in time when their leader culled anyone who wasn’t ‘pure blooded’ and there are panels of quincys curb stomping soul reapers and storming through the soul society with the express intent of trying to exterminate as many as possible. how much longer do i need to spell this shit out. what’s not clicking.
