âShirtless, definitely. Maybe Iâd need to do a demonstration, who knows?â
âFuck, you got me signed up. I'll even be your volunteer.â
âI think I am more than qualified to teach sex ed here. A lot more qualified than our teachers, anyway.â
âI wont lie, Iâd take that class. Would you be shirtless too?â
Nico noticed the way Ramona wasnât meeting his eyes, figuring it had something to do with the fact that they were sleeping together. Heâd met girls like that before, ones who didnât talk to people unless they were in bed together. âOh, youâve just got it all figured out, havenât you?â he deadpanned, sighing and turning his head to blow smoke away from her. He wasnât sure he could deal with Ramona sober, the more that he thought about it.Â
Maybe it was the fact that Ramona hated looking people in the eyes in a normal situation. A sign of dominance, and the sign that no, I will not back down, was eye contact. She was not challenging Nico in this situation, so neutrality meant looking elsewhere. Of course, that ended with his comment, when she looked him dead in the eyes with a frown. âAre you giving me fucking shit for having myself figured out, Nico? Sayinâ I canât know how I want to live my fuckinâ life? You gonna devalue me because I know what I do and donât want? You wanna fucking snap at me like that again Iâll shove your cigarettes so far up your ass youâll taste the tobacco.â Spitting her words like venom, she turns away, jogging back to her dorm and away from the situation. So much for feeling clean on the inside.
Julian blinked in astonishment for a moment, before he turned away from the girl and ran an open hand over his face. âOh my fucking GodâŚâ he sighed, clearly annoyed by her snarky remarks. âJust fucking go, for Christâs sake.â
âI could go,â She thought out loud, tilting her head to the side. âBut youâre kinda cute when youâre angry.â She grinned.
âGender and religion are social constructs. We made them up to be able to divide people into sections and herd them like sheep. So it humors me when I see baby boomers get all red-faced about it. Sorry your methods of keeping the masses in line failed, my bad.â
âFuck--- I know right? Religionâs purpose was literally to explain what we did not know--- and ultimately to make death seem less scary. Come up with a place you go to after you die, donât worry, you wont be gone forever! Itâs all so ridiculous that these fucking old farts sit there preaching their prehistoric beliefs when times are changing and moving on. People are fucking stupid.â
Nico laughed at her answer. She actually wasnât dicking him around for once, which was refreshing. âI love tar and shit,â he sighed, looking down the end of his cigarette and making a face at it. He knew he was wrecking his body, but he kept telling himself heâd quit in the next 5 years - that way it couldnât really hurt him. âYou smoke after sex, donât you?â he pointed out bluntly. He didnât have the energy to be coy. âThatâs a workout.âÂ
âI smoke all the time.â She shrugs, still looking around. Itâs odd to hold eye contact with him. Mostly because if she were, sheâd just want to punch him in the face, and sheâs trying to keep herself out of trouble. At least, in terms of the board. âAnd sex is dirty to begin with, so it doesnât feel much different. I work out to flush out all the fat and grime thatâs been sitting in my body and smoking right after just makes it feel pointless.â She explains, giving a cool shrug.
A brow quirked as she spoke and only continued to arch as she went on. â Great, â Â the word came out curtly, and she shrugged. â So thatâs your round about way of saying that youâd be the one to push poor Timmy in the well. Â Fantastic.â I was actually coming over here to let you know that a study group will be coming to locate here not too long from now. Â So, I wonât be the only one getting between you and your tawny tan. â
âIâd never push Timmy in a well. In a volcano, or another place more interesting than a well, sure.â She shrugs, only kidding. Sheâd never push Timmy anywhere unless he really had it coming. At the mention of a study group coming, Ramona nods. âOh, yeah. Okay.â A thing to understand, Ramona wasnât rude when it came to practical thing. Academics, wanting to get an education, those things didnât call for a rude comment. So she hopped down from the bench. âGo right ahead.â
Nico shrugged when Ramona didnât take a cigarette, sticking his pack back in his pocket. She seemed to have something really against smoking with him. He laughed through a scoff when she spoke, rolling his eyes. âGuess I canât, right?â he sighed, looking up at her and squinting his eyes. Heâd never talked to Ramona sober before - not ever. He found her a lot less tolerable that way. âWhy wonât you ever smoke with me?â he asked, his voice groggy.Â
At first, she was going to make fun of him for asking. For being such a little bitch for something so trivial as choosing not to smoke with him. But maybe she should cut him a little slack and give him an honest answer. She huffs, looking around as she adjusts her feet. âFuck, Nico, I just worked out. My body is clean. I donât really want to fuck it up with a bunch of tar and shit right now.â Well, an honest answer said in a Ramona way, of course.
Nico rolled his eyes when Ramona called him a twat. He couldnât stand her most of the time. âHey, fuck off,â he furrowed his brows when she tossed his cigarette away. He reached into his pocket for another cigarette, taking one for himself and then offering his pack to her with the lid tilted back. âYeah, itâs easy to be offended by me. Iâm just so intimidating and tough and edgy and rude to everybody I talk to,â he started, taking a drag from his cigarette. âOr wait - thatâs you, isnât it?â
She didnât take one of his cigarettes, just crossing her arms over her chest. It felt wrong to smoke right after a workout. Like she got internally clean for nothing. She shrugged at his comment about her. It wasnât a big deal coming form him. Or anyone, really. âGuilty is charged.â She puts her hand on her hips. âCanât kill me for just beinâ a bitch.â
Julian rolled his eyes, a slight shake of his head as he said, âDoes it look like I care? Just move and quit makinâ things so fucking difficult.â
She rolls her eyes, still not bothering to budge. âSee, now if you had said that in the first place when I asked, maybe I would have moved, but now youâre just being rude.â As if Ramona wasnât one to talk.
Nico leaned against the front of the Arts building, cigarette between his lips and phone in hand. His head was pounding. Heâd run out of coke the night before, and hadnât gotten hold of his dealer yet. He was scrolling through his twitter feed when he noticed someone lingering near him, and he sighed. âWhat?â he snapped. âIs my smoking offending you?â he rolled his eyes, as it seemed to bother almost everyone in this fucking school.Â
Ramona was just coming from a workout, her body still pumping adrenaline and her mind racing. It was either the best or the worst time to catch her. Being on a high from burning all that fat, it was either good or bad. With Nico, it was kind of a guarantee bad. âOh, donât be such a twat, Nico.â She grabs the cigarette from his hand, tossing it on the ground. âEver think I could just be offended by you?â A part of her was teasing him, a part being genuine.Â
â ââ â her eyes dragged to the girl, slightly annoyed. Â Lifting her hands into a dramatic shrug, Helen let them fall back down to her thighs and drummed an impatient rhythm against them for a moment. â Would that be enough to grab your attention? Â Are you CPR skills up to par? â
Annoyance didnât phase her, and she kept with her rather bland expression. âProbably not. Itâs rather dull... just getting stuck down a well. Of all thing, they pick the one east exciting to fall down?â She shrugs. âI donât have training in helping lives, more like ruining them.â The honest to god truth, she created messes.
It was clear to Julian that the girl who sprawled out on the table wasnât listening to him, but he didnât care. A less than genuine smile spreading across his chapped lips, he said, âMove. Youâre in my way, Lassie.â
She raised her brows, adjusting her seat so her feet rested on the bench part, elbows on her knees. âYou know, only one of us can be Lassie in this situation, you realize that, right?â She points her finger between the two of them, giving him a curdled smirk. She completely ignored his request.

A girl with a hard shell around her constantly, but those few cracks of a moment when she showed something pure, and fragile, she wasnât going to sit here and fuck around with a boy like Nico. The kind of pretentious fuckboy the girlâs back at school would have ridiculed. Ramona would be one of them, too. And while she didnât fall for his bullshit like most of the girls did for him, he let him fuck her, and she indulged in him a little. It was like eating drug store chocolate; itâs really not the best, but youâre still splurging. Either way you end up slightly more satisfied than you were before you had it. Just, sometimes after that... you feel guilty, or wish youâd just fucking picked nicer chocolate. She needed a cigarette, grabbing the one in her drawer and not even looking at him as he replied. She rolled her eyes, wanting to set fire to his pretty oy hair and telling him to get the fuck out. He did, though. He left, and she set on her bed, cigarette between her lips so lazily. She was a fucking mess. This was no who her mother wanted her to be.Â
