My name is Nate and I like to design cards, build decks, and gush about my fanwalker oc's. This is my side blog dedicated to all things Magic: the Gathering. Currently working on the first set for my fanplane Caelmorath.

Stop! Before you submit a card...

Is the name unique? Check Gatherer/Scryfall if you’re unsure.

Does the name evoke something creative, unusual, or responsive? Does it create an expectation of what the card does?

Is the mana cost balanced? Compared to other similar effects, is it more or less expensive? Why?

Does the card have the proper rarity? Think of the environment for which you are designing.

Does your typeline have proper capitalization?

Does your rules text have proper capitalization? Punctuation? Are there run-on sentences? Are creature types capitalized? Is it legible? Compared to other effects, is it worded properly?

Do you have room for flavor text? Does the text evoke something about the world of the card? If it’s a quote, is the quote properly attributed to a character? If you have quote credit, is it indented?

If your card is a creature, did you make sure to add power and toughness?

If you added art, is the artist properly credited by their name as properly as it appears? Does the card look professional?

Would you play this card? Would you play against this card? Is it beatable? What are its limits? Strengths? Weaknesses?

Today’s question is about Modern Horizons. What thing were you hoping to see in Modern Horizons that wasn’t there?

Would Hymn really be too good? At this point I don’t understand who in their right mind would be scared of something like Jund being “too good”. Fair midrange decks need all the help they can get
