No offense but I think you're reading into Andrew's interactions with women in AFTG that aren't actually there. Misogyny is hatred toward or prejudice against women. Andrew doesn't single women out for his mistrust or violence, he treats everyone that way.
Some of the people Andrew respects most are women: Bee and Renee especially. His actions toward Tilda and Allison aren't because they're women, it's because they hit Aaron and he had a deal with Aaron to protect him. Presumably if a man had hit Aaron, he would have gone after them, too. We know this because he made a similar deal with Kevin and laid Matt out for hitting him, and had to be held back by three people from attacking Riko on TV for the same reason. He nearly killed four men for hurting Nicky and ended up in state-mandated therapy and on medication because of it.
His relationship with Renee is one of mutual respect. He doesn't call her a friend, but that's semantics; she clearly is his friend. They talk about important things. Before Neil, she's the only one who knows anything about his abuse or that he's gay. They're sparring partners, which for both of them would require a lot of trust due to their pasts. That's pretty much the opposite of him being a misogynist toward her.
Andrew's initial treatment of Neil is also pretty awful even though Neil is a man. He threatens him repeatedly, breaks into his dorm and searches his things, and drugs him, with no cause except an imagined potential threat to Kevin.
Andrew didn't hate Cass or look down on her because of her gender. He wanted her love so much he was willing to trade his own personal safety for it. He doesn't view Drake as less of a threat than her, he views Drake as a danger but chooses to endure him for the chance at having a mother.
The only woman he actually behaves in a misogynistic way toward in the series is Katelyn. He is pretty awful to her due to his deal with Aaron, and he does call her some pretty nasty things. You can argue that this is because of his deal with Aaron and if Aaron had dated a guy he'd be foul to him, too, but he's really unfairly mean to Katelyn.
Otherwise, I can't think of any time in canon that he behaves in a misogynistic way.
Heyo again! (assuming ur the same anon from the last ask)
I actually never once mentioned any of his interactions with the women in canon as an act of misogyny, just his evaluation of them because i don't think his prejudice necessarily swayed any of his decisions in their exchanges. Nor is it synonyms to hatred..
Since the only reason i knew he was a misogynist was because Nora let it out that she wrote the character with that as one of his characteristic. Because we've never gotten his Pov and we've haven't seen any misogynistic deeds from him from Neil's pov, it's safe to assume that his thoughts were the one with that particular outlook
As for respect, i had mentioned that his misogyny is quite different from the usual one, so if we take that into consideration he probably had more respect for them as a woman than if they were a man as it comes from him unable to get a clear read on their intentions unlike the men, who's malicious intends were straightforward from the get go. And im pretty sure it's also more about the fact that their intentions always seem to be beneficial even when the consequence is sometimes worse - Cass never wanted him to get hurt, but he got hurt because of her
I also don't think i contradicted your statement of his retaliation against Tilda and Allison - i fully agree on that - it's not an act of misogynism
Yeah, he never looked down on Cass, infact he looked up, so high up that he thought she was enough as a pay for her son's actions. And no, he doesn't see Drake as the same level as Cass, but atleast Drake hurt him directly, but on the other hand Cass didn't hurt him at all, but indirectly made him hurt himself, or atleast endure the hurt.
Honestly i don't know what more to say seeing that i never implied more than half of what you are saying i did but you saying that one actual misogynistic event is not misogynistic enough to label a character misogynistic is kinda funny to me but you do you i guess. At the end of the day it's fiction. It's not hurting anyone.
I personally like my characters really really complicated and contrary and one fault away from being the antagonist so I'm not changing my view on Andrew being a misogynist (i have a hc that with enough time and intervention he gets converted into a feminist since he is literally half a trauma from being one) (also because Neil is a feminist who gets offended on behalf of them when Nicky said he doesn't want to date anotger woman lmaoo) but THANK YOU FOR THE ASK!!
(I tried to word everything not rudely, so if i didn't exactly succeed on that - please don't take it to heart - just send me atleast a full stop in my askbox so ik we r good & i stop panicking abt it :D
