i think its so stupidly adorable that despite the dragonsickness, thorin gifts bilbo the mithril shirt. and its so fucking cute how despite the sealonging, legolas stays with gimli on middle earth until he grows old. its just sickeningly sweet that love is the one thing that is stronger then these magical mental disorders.
I'm drowning in tenderness
Both gimli and Thorin calling there loves sweet names in khuzdul even soft praises and speaking to them so lovingly.
Mean while Bilbo is calling Thorin a stupid dwarf in an affectionate way and Legolas calling gimli his hairy rock.
The differences between how they were raised being so funny not to mention both Bilbo and Legolas calling them that in front of others to be cute and gimli and Thorin are like
âI love him and would die for him but why does he have to call me that now?â

(also realised that I was drawing from almost the same screenshot way back when and ooobviously wanted to compare)
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as âproblematicâ in class and our professor was like, âThatâs cool, but âproblematicâ doesnât really mean anything. It means that the thing youâre describing has a problem, and in and of itself thatâs not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else itâs not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like youâre trying to say that this is bad, but you donât want to say âbad.â Is that right?â
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the âbadâ thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, âIâm uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.â
Once we stopped calling things âproblematicâ and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, âthatâs racistâ or âthatâs misogynisticâ or âew capitalism grossâ out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, âUhhh... Iâm not sure whatâs so bad?â and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I canât help but think of this professor being like, âGood starting point, now letâs get specific.â I think when we have to commit to saying âthatâs ___â it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever weâre claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes itâs art, and it should be full of problems, because thatâs what art is.
loved and adored this exchange in my replies on a barduil post. thinking about middle-earth history and what stories survive⊠ooughh

Gimli and Legolas had slept together the night before.
Legolas didn't know how to feel. He had just married a dwarf, and the dwarf probably didn't even know. Legolas, too, was at a loss for words to express his feelings.
What if the dwarf was angry with him for not telling him what it meant to an elf? What if, for Gimli, this was just another night with another lover? What if this was a one-time thing, and Legolas could never be in his arms again? Worse still, what if, upon telling Gimli, he became so angry that he refused to speak to him again?
Legolas surmised that his actions stemmed from the previous day's battle at Helms Deep. Knowing he could have lost him, leaving this world without ever declaring his love, was too much for his heart. Although he didn't remember exactly how Gimli had agreed to do it with him, after all, they were still an elf and a dwarf.
So, not really knowing what to do, Legolas decided to get up and flee the situation. He would go anywhere at that moment and try to ignore Gimli.
...
That idea didn't last long, as riding back to Rohan forced them to be together. Feeling Gimli's hands on his hips again, being able to lean against him, was something Legolas had almost forgotten. He tried to ignore the situation, but at the same time, he realized how incredible it felt, and how empty he would feel afterward if he didn't cherish those last moments with him. Because even if neither of them died, in the end, Gimli would return to his mountain and find someone to love there and forget about him, while Legolas would return to the green woods with a broken heart, probably begging his father to send him immediately to (I can't remember the name of the place where elves go lol) so he could live the rest of his life in peace.
But until then, he would seize every opportunity that fate gave him.
Okay, I hope the idea came across well. English isn't my first language, so I used a translator to put this in English. I wrote this at 3 AM today instead of working on my university project, and honestly, I didn't even notice if it was well written or just a bunch of nonsense. I hope anyone who reads this enjoys it, and I hope to continue with this idea soon.
imagine slaying the great calamity and you still have to rely on the wealthy to feed you. aka class divide and the constant power struggle that comes with it
