Rise of the Titans: Movie Theory
After the premiere of Wizards, we were all left scratching our heads with questions, (I know I was) and with the announcement of a new movie, Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, it’s time to begin another round of speculation! This time, I will focus on the Arcane Order, and their motives near the end of Wizards.
The Arcane Order is a powerful trio of immortal beings, who have supposedly “watched over majicks since the stars were young.” (Episode 5: Battle Royal) They have been on the Earth far longer than the oldest wizards in the series, exceeding the ages of Merlin, Morgana, and Douxie. The Order seems to have unlimited magic, as they are sorcerers with the capabilities to bring someone back from the dead, as they did to Morgana and King Arthur. But, there are limits to their magic, as seen below:
In the picture above, Skrael is alluding to the fact that not just anybody is able to be resurrected, and was surprised that Nari’s magic worked to revive Morgana. (Episode 4: Lady of the Lake) That is one limit to their magic, not everything they do works with everyone or everything. So far, this has been one of the only limits that have been revealed, but fortunately for us, it is directly important to the theory that I will present.
So, what exactly are the Order’s motives?
In Wizards, it is revealed that they are after the Genesis Seals. In episode 8, (Wizard Underground) Merlin and Douxie finally tell us their importance to the maintaining balance in the world, as seen below.
Of course, the conclusion that is easily drawn here, is that the Order just want to break the seals to unleash raw magic onto the world, ending it in the process. But, that doesn’t quite make sense. So far, all we know is that they want to destroy the world... for the sake of destroying it? Again, we have to look back.
In episode 5: Battle Royal, we learn that the Order has grown, for lack of a better word, salty at how mankind has used magic for their own purposes. They truly believe that the world of man has “destroyed the balance”, and aim to correct it. They have already used Morgana and King Arthur to attempt this correction, but none proved fruitful. In fact, the use of them both as pawns in their battle for magic was just the beginning, as I am sure they have a much bigger plan in store. That is their true motive. But how does that connect with thier quest for the Genesis Seals?
The Order wants the Seals in order to summon some sort of being so powerful and destructive, that the laws of the universe have forbade them from doing with their own magic. Something so influential and dangerous to the set balance of the world, of the universe, that not even the combined magic of the closest beings to gods can muster to summon. Most likely some sort of ancient primordial being that predates their own creation.
The Arcane Order want the Genesis Seals to unleash the rawest form of power onto the world, yes, but I believe they plan on cultivating it, in order to raise their magical abilities in order to perform tasks that the law of the universe has forbid them to do. Reincarnation.
But it isn’t any wizard or human they plan on resurrecting, they plan on resurrecting Titans.
The movie isn’t labeled “Rise of the Titans” for nothing.
In conclusion, the Arcane Order’s motives run much deeper than we initially see in Wizards. I believe they want to break the Genesis Seals in order to flood the world with raw magic, with which they will cultivate to enhance their magical abilities to revive/summon a Titan, (or a collection of them) in order to aid them in their goal of “correcting” the balance between man and magic. In which, they actually mean to win the war between them.
