Milwaukee HVAC Multimeter Review
Milwaukee generally aren't known for their multimeters, when you think of the Milwaukee brand you normally think of power tools such as cordless drills and grinders. So when they released the Milwaukee HVAC multimeter, we were very eager to put it to the test - were we expecting it to be the best HVAC multimeter? No we weren't, but we were certainly interested to see how it stacks up against the competition. Appearance and Feel: The Milwaukee HVAC multimeter feels and looks quite cheap. It is much lighter that some other higher quality multimeters, some would say less weight is a good thing, but we have always associated light electronics with low quality and cheap. Although the red color does stand out in your tool bag, it does look quite tacky. Features: Where this meter lacks in appearance and feel, it does make up for in features, as listed below: It can measure up to 200 amps and 1000 volts. Can perform temperature measurement. True RMS voltage reading - great for accuracy. Wide jaw opening for measuring current on thicker cables. 600 micro-amp DC reading for flame rectification. It has a built in voltage detector. Build in LED work light - great for when working in roof cavities. Usage: One downside that we had discovered whilst using this meter is that it appears to take a few seconds to display your readings. This isn't such a big issue, more so just a slight annoyance and something you won't generally see on meters once you start going above $200. Aside from that, the Milwaukee is a breeze to use, and anyone who's never even used a multimeter before will have no problems turning it on a getting into testing right away - though it does come with quite a detailed and easy to read manual, which will be sure to take care of any queries. When using the meter to measure temperature, we found there were some discrepancies when comparing to other multimeters - the other multimeters measured the same temperatures, while the Milwaukee was about a degree out (plus or minus). This might not seem like much, but it's enough to be worth pointing out. Final Words: Quite simply, the Milwaukee HVAC multimeter is a great unit for the money. If this is your first meter, then you can't go wrong and it's better to buy something a bit cheaper and seeing if you'll use it much, rather than spending $300+ for a meter you don't use that often. There are some minor flaws, such as the discrepancies in the temperature readings, and the slightly cheap look and feel, but those are quite minor for the price you'll pay. generally aren't known for their multimeters, when you think of the Milwaukee brand you normally think of power tools such as cordless drills and grinders.
