Feel So Low - No Ceremony Sometimes you just need something that sounds familiar.

Emmanuel - Basecamp Broken sentences & string of words scattered on an empty canvas, with splashes of trippy pops and beats on the periphery.. creating the perfect atmosphere to a dark RnB tune.  The vocals give an eerie sense of urgency as the singer confesses to wanting to explode with all the things he wants to ask, but in vain. The perfect song to soundtrack the kind of relationships that scream 'we will always be unfinished business'.

Not going to lie, the only thing that would possibly make this track better would be the loud echo of drumming in the distance announcing impending doom.

Farrah Fawcett Hair - Capitol Cities

On a lighter note. Been listening to this on repeat today, each time, uncontrollably cracking a smile at "..Back to the future...2, Daniel Day Lewis.. Its good shit!"

Listing all the things that are considered 'Good Shit', in a monotone advert voice over, the song purely focuses on good shit lyrics.. literally. The shitty ones coming in around the time Andre 3000 comes along. And just when you've lost hope, depth is injected with some realness "..I like it when your under the ocean and all you can feel is calm.. I like it when you talk to me like that.. i like it when it rains at night and i'm curled up with a good book.."

There are some high points and some very low, music wise as well. But overall its been quite a delightful listen. 10 points for the title and inspiration --> Farrah Fawcett Hair.. its Good Shit!

1998 - Chet Faker

The second single from his debut album, 1998 sheds light on those past friendships that time erodes over the years leaving you oceans apart. 

Oft-times such relationships get caught in the crossfire of each others lives. Distances, alternate schedules, and a new social pool of friends you dip into, along the way, who share more of your interests than the ones you happened to be friends with back in the day.

Relationships are tricky, built on varying foundations. As you tread through life you make various friends based on geographical convenience, parental push, shared interests and soul-twins. Losing any kind of a friend through erosion of time is just hard. Always.

The way Chet Faker sings his feelings, in a monotone melancholy droll, you almost don't notice the anger, but look closely at the lyrics and you will find that relationship ended on bad terms.. "take my good word, turn it backwards, turn your back on me..". That's the most hurtful kind. Years from now (a decade even), you cross paths and "there's nothing left to say..by the way.." except you're left with pangs of hurt and pain. But with the erosion of time comes the mangle of memories, as morphine, to momentarily let you forget the pain. And you walk on, join the new relationships you made, at the bar, take a shot & carry on.

Music  - Harts

Reminiscent of 90's-early2000's pop, Melbourne based Darren Hart, channels Kylie Minogue and her 'Love at first sight'. A favourite of every teenager growing up around the early 2000's, at first listen the nostalgia and memories of listening to the catchy chorus bubble up.. "..And everything went from wrong to right and the stars came up and filled the sky the music you were playing really blew my mind, it was love at first sight".

Mixing sounds of the 80's and 90's and early 2000's Harts takes our emotions on a nostalgic safari, leaving us wanting to don headbands & short polka-dotted frocks whilst dancing alone, awkwardly atop our beds, pretending we were Rockstar Kylie or Madonna's.

Everything About Her - Oisima (Ta-Ku Remix) Solid remix of a solid artist..with a not so solid start to the song. At first listen i dismissed it as just another dream-pop rendition of a love ballad with lyrics as deep as the Mariana Trench. Lyrics are intriguing but its the beat that puts great lyrics to use.

This remix does just that.. Like sipping hot chocolate on a wet November night, staring out a steamy window delving into a cove of memories you wish to both remember & forget.

"We drink, complain, but we save the sin.. The reason you feel bad does it make it feel no worse" 

The truly uplifting saviour of the entire song sneaks up on you 2:40 in. 40 seconds I would gladly listen to on repeat. Blue Skies - Ella FItzgerald (Maya Jane Cole Remix)

For those who have heard the original Blue Skies by Ella FItzgerald the Great.. this is nothing like it.

Leading with an accordion & Ella combo makes for a dramatic entrance into the track. Then kicks in the melancholy deep house synth and bass on loop with equally repetitive vocals echoing in the back of your ear canal.

A dark and gloomy house backdrop is perfectly juxtaposed with the perky vocal, singing about blue skies and sprinkled with a little jazz infused trumpet in the distance.

Only another woman could compile such a perfect remix putting Ella Fitzgerald's classic back on the radar.

Before I Ever Met You - Banks Dark, gloomy and vengeful breakup songs are the best. Especially when they start off with a heavy bass coupled with a heavy heart. Lyrics that speak to everyone..at some point, in their lives. Let the words sink in, on an unconventional chorus, echoing against a silent wall of acoustic "aaaaahhh's"..

Reminders of all the things you were, are, will be "before I ever met you..". Not one to place in a playlist of any kind other than 'top 10 songs to listen to after an epic heart wrenching breakup that leaves you feeling angry, longing, nostalgic and hurt'.

Raise Your Weapon - Deadmau5 (Madeon Remix)

Emulating the feeling of being on a chaotic rollercoaster, with each dive into chorus comes the feeling of your breath being caught in mid air and every lul & pause being the release of an exhale. 

Ripping through like a direction-less missile the synths beats and bops fly all over the room like colourful lazer lights at a rave in a dark warehouse. Probably the best place to be listening to a tune such as this. 

A high energy workout must, this song will leave your heart thumping, fist pumping and head bobbing.

All The Days - Haerts Reminiscent of an 80's Kate Bush classic. A single full of heavy bass, wall-echoing backdrop drumming and vocals that range from pillow-y soft to a full on Banshee-Ballad! Pensive lyrics draw you into the song and let you hang on edge waiting patiently for the chorus.. and just as a gust of wind sweeps under you pushing you forward, the chorus swoops in with the heavy drums of doom. Once the song crescendo's your left feeling lighter, as if you've just piggy-backed on the back of an eagle smoothly soaring through the air.

Still - Daughter (Leave Remix)

I assume Daughter's music is somewhat of an acquired taste for most. Assumption. But then again, when you hear songs such as this, especially once a great remix artist gets their hands on it, its hard to believe there is anyone out there who won't immediately be drawn to the infectious blend of sounds that fill our ears.

A vocal as smooth as a silk scarf, leaving your neck, on a windswept afternoon; the slight kink in the progressive beat with the occasional drum echoing in the distance; that slight hesitation where she abruptly stops from completing the lyric; And the lyrics telling a tragic story of two lovers at the crossroads of their relationship- with nothing more left to say-the song in very few words speaks in great depth.

Retrograde - Lorde (James Blake Cover)

It is very difficult for someone to cover/replicate the pure emotion in a voice like James Blake's in the song Retrograde. 

Meet Lorde, a young artist who proves a statement such as the one above wrong. Not only does she add pain & emotion with the minimalistic music surrounding the song, leaving us listening to/focusing on nothing but the incredible lyrics & vocals.

Perth Love - Bon Iver & Daughter (Isosine Mashup) Its been a while since i heard a powerful vocal such as the lead vocal from the up and coming Daughter. The kind of vocal with depth that draws you into the song, allowing you to sit alert and actually listen to what she has to say.

So when i heard of a mashup of two very powerful acts such as Bon Iver and Daughter, i was of course quite excited. 

Starting strong with the familiar guitar solo off of Perth slowly followed by that velvety vocal. Leading you into the track a marching drum beat, percussion and then the solid heartbeat drumming leading the crescendo.

Somewhere along the way i got so into the beautiful blend of smooth vocals, melodious guitaring and heartbeat drums, that i almost didn't notice the slight lapse in melody. The marching drums returned with an offbeat tune, repetitive vocal and bang of the heavier bass filled drums.

As if ending with a bang and leaving you with mixed feelings for the end, the song does leave quite a pleasant fleeting taste..

Cavalier - James Vincent McMorrow 

Hurt-felt emotional vocals almost whispered, light claps guiding the song into bone thumping drums and finally climaxing at a high pitched remembrance of past love.

Somehow every time I listen to it, the song gets shorter. Maybe its just that feeling of me wanting more, or maybe its the perfect length leaving the listener craving for more..a

Patticakes - Ben Pearce If you are in the mood for some disco, this is the tune for you!  It also might do justice to a slow day at work, helping perk you up. I assure you will not walk away from this one without a slight groove in your step. Sampling some old school vibes, mixed with muffled Quincy Jones and a guitar solo that leaves you craving the 80's in all its big-haired glory. This easy listening track will endorse some serious desk-disco grooving- guaranteed!

Talkin 'bout a Revolution - Tracy Chapman (Stefan Biniak Bootleg)

This is the second Stefan Biniak piece i'm posting in one week.. and for good reason!

Although Biniak's work doesn't completely steal the spotlight from Tracy Chapman (no one could ever possibly steal away from her solid vocals- i mean, they demand the attention), but the remix does justice to the original by ensuring the continuous strumming pattern with intervals of highs and lows.

Starting strong with the signature acoustic and the casual song waves crashing leading you into the drum beat that gets your toes tapping. The familiar Tracy ''..talkin 'bout a revolution-shun-ah'' birthing feelings of nostalgia to the first time you ever heard the famous song.

If anything else, this remix is a feel-good, mood lifter leaving you with hopes of a peaceful revolution with a happy ending.
