Early this morning I started researching ideas for my psychology thesis. It was rainy and there was no sugar for my coffee, but I’m happy to have started! I now feel closer to finding my thesis topic ♡

this has been sitting in my drafts for years (literally. i think this was back in college) but hello! I’m back (ish?). I started this studyblr when I was in high school and now I’m about to graduate from law school this may. time really does fly!

New semester, new me.
(Not really, but hey, at least it’s an excuse to restart)
[07.01.26, wednesday]
Gave myself two free days while trying to recover from the cold (and trying to not feel super guilty for failing on my study-everyday goal literally the first week) but feeling better so we're back on track!
-> Read for 25 mins ish, I finished Heartstopper! I bought it during one of my first trips, when I was just starting learning, and it felt nice how easily I was reading it now compared to the struggle it was at the start.
-> 10 min youtube video
-> Spent an hour translating the lyrics to a song and working with the vocab
-> Made flashcards with the unit 4 vocab
It’s snowing in France! 🌨️ I’ve been enjoying these cold days with whipped cream coffee & knitting projects ☕️🧶☃️
HOW TF DO YOU WRITE A RESEARCH PROPOSAL?
research proposal 101
how to write one and not die trying!! a guide by me.
1. find something you're willing to work on for months/years at ungodly hours. this project will take up a LOT of your time, so make sure you're getting into something you won't end up hating with every bit of your soul, m'kay?
1.1. if you're out of ideas, read a bunch of papers about a general topic you're interested in and find a niche. this can be anything from "this is neat and hasn't been properly explored yet" to "professor dumbfuck phd argues this but they're wrong and i'm gonna drag them to the depths of hell to prove it"
2. do a, and i cannot stress this enough, THOROUGH reading of the previous literature. i don't care if it's 5 or 70 papers, but make sure you understand them, because you WILL need them to make your case.
2.1. personally though, i recommend skimming through google scholar, reading a bunch of abstracts and picking what will/won't be useful. keep if brief but precise. you do NOT wanna read fifty papers on the same topic before you write your proposal (let alone your actual paper) because by the end of it, your brain will be burnt. out.
3. do you have a hypothesis? fantastic! write that down.
4. do you not have a hypothesis? okay, no problem! what do you want to get from this research? what do you want to learn?
4.1. come up with one broad-ish question
4.1.1. got the question? fantastic! now come up with two or three more specific questions based on the broad-ish question
4.2. come up with another broad question
4.2.1. come up with three more specific questions
4.3. repeat process a couple more times
4.4. try to come up with objectives that align with the questions you just wrote down.
e.g.:
Que.: how are neologisms formed in this context?
Obj.: -to identify the linguistic processes taking place in the formation of these neologisms, and
-to identify patterns that may explain the prevalence of certain processes over others.
5. onto the method!
5.1. ask yourself, how do you plan to conduct your study?
5.1.1. please, PLEASE, think of a REALISTIC, PLAUSIBLE way that fits your budget, your time availability, your resources and your will to live
5.1.2. got an idea for how to carry it out? great! break it down into little steps and write it down
5.1.3. don't have an idea? no problem! ASK. YOUR. RESEARCH SUPERVISOR. FOR HELP.
5.1.4. no, you're not bothering them, they're your supervisor for a reason. talk. to. them.
6. i assume you're writing this proposal for a) a job, b) funding, or c) to pass a class. you need someone's approval. that means you need to CONVINCE THEM that what you're proposing is IMPORTANT. that it has a PURPOSE. now, i don't give a goddamn shit if your study is about the colour of unicorn faeces; you need to figure out a way to convince the Important Superior That Makes Decisions™ that the unicorn faeces you want to study are of the UTMOST importance to the scientific community. just write something like "though equine faeces have been studied in the past, little research has been carried out into unicorn faeces specifically. this study seeks to fill that gap. we believe that this introductory taxonomy of unicorn faeces will provide much-needed knowledge about fantastic creatures' gastrointestinal functionings and illnesses thereto related. we hope, thus, to shed some light on this so-far unexplored yet puzzling area." that'll do. you just gotta make it SOUND nice and convincing.
7. once you have all of this info, GO TO YOUR SUPERVISOR. ask them for a second opinion. ask for ideas on how to organize it. don't be afraid to ask them for constructive criticism, because that criticism might just get you the Important People in Charge™'s approval for your study.
8. remember all the bibliography you've consulted so far? yeah, start writing down that shit BEFORE you write your proposal, because the deadline WILL come sooner than you expect it to, and trust me, you do not want to be typing a reference list on six cans of redbull at 11:40 pm. speaking from experience.
9. if you're struggling to get down the first few words, look at other papers in the same field. see how those authors do it. figure out the structure they use. do NOT copy, but use it as a model if needed.
10. fuck around and find out
hope that helps!

I could do a PhD only so I would get to drag a professor to the depths of hell over something I believe in
How to spot signs and symptoms of Breast Cancer
Reblog to literally save a life
whish they told us this in school, all they did was say “feel for lumps, you will know when you feel it”
This is important, even if it doesn’t work with your blog theme REBLOG IT!!!!
Women need to know this, not all of us have ever been told what we need to look out for!
yeah reblogging especially for my transmasc fellows who (like me) might be real uncomfortable with their chests and not know what to watch out for because we try to avoid this kind of thing (just me? okay)
Cis Men need to know it too. They can get breast cancer even though the odds are lower.
Everyone needs to know Breast cancer symptoms
Trans women on HRT have breast cancer risk about equivalent to cis women! Make sure you know this! Keep in mind that this might be difficult to monitor early on HRT, since your breasts will be changing size, shape, and texture rapidly, but be aware of these signs and ask your doctor if you’re unsure!
REBLOG THIS. Doesn’t matter if it fits your accounts aesthetic, DO IT.
My friend and I LOCKED IN FOR SCHOOL. 🩷😤
Wrote my lecture notes for 3 classes, tackled some required reading and grammar exercises, followed by more required reading (the story triggered & pissed me off so badly) and finished the draft for my summary of Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan. Going for a drive now & will rewrite my summary draft later tonight as it’s totally illegible :/ once I’m done with that I’ll write the final summary + a comment as to what I changed in comparison to the draft. Very glad I passed the second pedagogy1 task.

It’s Anthony’s birthday! And he was still at home with his family so I didn’t get to tell him to his face, but I sent him a snapchat bitmoji collage of a bunch of cute bitmojis of us getting into trouble and looking weird.
Today wasn’t super busy class-wise. I had work this morning and spent most of it scrambling to figure out what to do for my paper that’s due on Thursday. In this class we are allowed to email the professor two days ahead of time to ask for an extension, no excuse needed. So, I sent the email and went straight to his office hours after work. We ended up having a really good discussion about my topic and I took notes on everything that was said. I have a better sense of direction for my thesis, and with the extension, I can put the paper on my backburner to focus on my Greek Art midterm tomorrow.
I spent the afternoon doing work; mainly catching up on some assignments and reading a manuscript for my internship. My professor for my night class was sick so the TA was in charge. I shamefully admit that instead of paying attention to her I continued reading the manuscript during the class discussion. I made a lot of headway and somehow managed not to get called on.
Since Anthony isn’t here there was no racquetball tonight. I did a quick upper body workout in my room using my resistance bands and 10lb weights. Then I showered and curled up in bed to continue reading the manuscript. I have 100 pages left that I’m hoping to finish tomorrow morning so I can send my report in the afternoon. Now I’m camping out at my kitchen table to study for my Greek Art exam!
I was recently asked about the homework planners that I post a lot. I actually put that and my weekly timetable together myself. Here are the links:

Long day at work, no studying at all, only the desire to go to sleep. I did get some reading done on my lunch break and I will try to get a few more pages in before bed. I am not looking forward to a day of studying tomorrow ngl. I might focus on easier tasks like writing notes in my thesis commonplace book, instead of working on the materials for my exam in February.
