I've been on Snapchat so much I've neglected the blog! I've found great juicing and fitness support there
FACE SWAP! #snapchat
Juice Odyssey: 18 lbs down!
It's been an awesome journey so far! Following Joe Cross' Reboot program (I'm on Day 22 now) has opened my eyes to new juice recipes of different flavors, hues and nutritional qualities. It's nice to have guidelines to prevent boredom and nutritional stagnation. I've fallen into the following routine (times are approximate) WORK WEEK 5am: 8-16 oz hot water with lemon and ginger 7am: 32 oz green juice 9am: 20 raw almonds 10am 32 oz "orange" juice (carrot based) Afternoon - evening: green tea After work: Snack: roasted seaweed w/sea salt Evening vegan meal (baked potato, steamed veggies, e.g.) WEEKEND AM 32 oz "orange" juice PM 32 oz "green" juice All day: green tea Lunch or dinner: Any meal I want (usually Mexican or pho) Roasted Seaweed snack I'm still experimenting with two or three regular meals per week. Right now my goal is weight loss, so that will determine what happens. I'm also starting to work meditation and regular exercise into my routine. It's been awesome seeing people on Snapchat making dehydrated bread and different juices, but I know there's more of us juicers and raw/veganists out there happy to share information, motivation and laughs. I hope you'll show your efforts on Snapchat regardless of where you are in your journey. Add me: https://www.snapchat.com/add/rawallison 🤗
Juice Odyssey: Preparing for Week 2 "Biggest Juicer"
Today was a busy day as I shopped for week two of my job's 3-month Biggest Loser contest, which I've turned into my personal "Biggest Juicer" journey. My goal is to juice throughout the day, and have a small vegan meal before bed. I monitor my calories, nutrients, exercise and weight using My Fitness Pal. I'm learning as I go. So far I've learned not to juice within two hours of bedtime, so I don't have to interrupt my sleep running to the bathroom. I started eating a small meal (more like a snack) if I'm hungry in the evening. So far I've only had baked potatoes, but today I branched out and added raw almonds, roasted seaweed, and freshly made corn tortillas, salsa and guacamole. I know I could get enough calories, protein and other nutrients strictly from juicing, but currently, I prefer to get about a quarter of my calories from solid food. (Everyone is different!) Today I stocked up at the local Sprouts grocery store, which calls itself a farmers market. Since I learned I can't stand red beets, I gave orange beets a try. And since I don't like the taste of juiced kale, I substituted romaine lettuce (it was affordable today). Another change I made was to buy smaller apples and oranges, so that my juices aren't so sweet. Lastly, I bought persimmons instead of peaches because I'm so horrible at judging a good peach. I'm happy to have gotten more vegan protein powder, and additional Mason jars. Because I tend to work overtime, juicing in the evening required me to leave work earlier than I prefer. I used the new jars to juice in advance. I now have five 32-oz jars and one 16 oz jar in the fridge. I was tired from all the running around today, so that's only two days of juice. The store visit and juicing adventure are still available on Snapchat. See ya' there tomorrow!
I woke up juicing like this!
Juice Odyssey biggest Juicer Weigh In!
So, I lost.... 10.6 lbs!! I am happy, as far as the contest goes, but even happier that I've learned some new juice recipes, and that I stuck to juicing through Nacho Day, a doughnut-filled good bye party for a coworker, and fast-food-eating family members. The Biggest Loser work contest ends April 8th, and allows 4 skipped weigh-ins. The winner takes $350.00. Healthy methods are encouraged. I'm only in 11th place. The contest is based on percentage of weight lost, so if I lose 10 lbs and someone half my weight also loses 10 lbs, I'm at a disadvantage. I think that's unfair. In the end, though, I'll be healthier in April than I am today- that's the real goal. (But it still isn't fair!!)
How was YOUR day? The story of my Biggest Juicer day is on Snapchat!
Day 6 Joe Cross' Reboot. Sporty Spice beet-based juice, Mean Green, and Peach Pie Delight. The last one was a hit with the whole family.
Juice Odyssey: Not Gonna Lie...
Today was a challenge. A happy challenge, but a challenge. I had to juice three times to follow Joe's Reboot (I started on Day 6, since I don't need to ease into it with food) and because I started the day late and have to go to bed early, there was just too much juice to drink in one day. Thank goodness I didn't have to work. I got 32 ounces out of the beet recipe, which is split in half to make two meals, and 64 oz of juice out of the Mean Green recipe, which is also split in half. Mama mía, that was a lot of juice! And that was after starting the day with hot water and lemon, and drinking some coconut water midday. I couldn't drink the last 32 ounces of the green juice, so I saved it for tomorrow and had the 16 oz "dessert" juice instead. No way could I fit in the water he recommends! I'm not unhappy with the program. I easily hit 1200 calories and 40 oz of protein without the last juice, which is encouraging. My main concern is being able to drink all that liquid at work. How many times can I run to the bathroom before they start making me take PTO? 😜 So my assessment of day one is, overall, positive, but I definitely have to make some adjustments. I also faced a couple of family-related "issues" (check out the Snapchat story before it disappears) but we all survived, and I'll sleep well tonight having enjoyed new recipes and having gotten all my nutrients.
DAY ONE "Biggest Juicer" #juiceodyssey
Juice Odyssey: They say " Biggest Loser," I say "Biggest Juicer"
I finally joined my job’s Biggest Loser contest. I’m a week late but they got my starting weight 10 days ago. I skipped the first weigh-in, because we can skip 4 weigh-ins total.
Since I’m following Joe Cross’ Reboot program, I started my day with hot water, lemon and ginger. I’ve been meaning to incorporate this habit into my routine, and I’m glad to see it in Joe’s program. This is very soothing; a nice, mellow way to start the day. I can see doing this before work every morning.
You know, Joe Cross is not the first to get people talking about juicing, but I think he came along at the right time, while the mainstream is concerned about health and food, the alarming rise in diabetes, and other health, nutrition and food supply issues. What I like about Joe himself is his Everyman appeal. He didn’t strike me as someone who was out to make a buck from the jump. Yes, he’s making a living at it now (I think- and good for him if so!) but the basic info he provides is accessible without big bucks, unless you want one-on-one coaching or something. I’m simply using his two iOS apps.
I like that he brings together common sense and wisdom, and that his program incorporates the good eating habits I’ve been learning over the years since my early raw food days. I’m not one for following a program, but I want to win this Biggest Loser contest, and I figure an organized approach is the best way for me to stay on track through April.
Join me on Snapchat and show me your juices!
Juice Odyssey: learning to value myself
I've always been one to put others' needs before mine and to see the problems of other prove as more important than mine.
What, Gov. Snyder? How was the water decision ever NOT apolitical? https://notify.co/n/zZXgRH4BIv
Pepsi is my one addiction. When I juice, eventually cravings disappear.
