hello, hello!
i haven't been active here in a while cause i've been struggling a lot with health & trauma.
i'd hate to ask, especially as i know we, as a community, struggle with finances, but i've been struggling to get my meds & some tests done for a while, so if you could help in any way, i would be eternally grateful.
i've long since moved back in with my parents but it's not the healthiest environment & they don't acknowledge my conditions & disabilities; i'm not even allowed to use my cane which has resulted in several injuries, especially as my room is up some stairs.
they don't let me have access to my meds, and have recently been withholding my antidepressants & fibromyalgia meds, which are really the only ones i need to take regularly.
i also have some neurological tests pending as my tremors & blackouts have been more frequent & prolonged, and i've also been losing my hearing in one ear due to untreated nerve damage.
i'm not explaining these to generate pity, i just feel the need to explain in case you decide to help because i don't want you to feel like it won't be useful. anything is helpful at this point, honestly, so if you can spare even a little, please do.
my information is below:
please please help, the situation is getting dire & i'm genuinely very concerned for my health & safety
Every time someone asks me why I'm not on disability.
Because I'm married.
This is why I roll my eyes when anyone says we have marriage Equality now. Because we fucking don't, and ultimately, the lie that we have marriage Equality is mostly used as a shut-me-up in the queer rights discussion (not that this is what this post is about, but there's overlap and honestly if you're queer and don't stand in solidarity for equal rights for disabled folk, you need to examine your empathy cuz it's the same fucking boot on all our necks)
There is a bill in congress right now that will allow disabled people on ssi to marry and will raise the income cap to 10k as well as many other good things. It's called the ssi restoration act of 2021. It won't fix everything but it's a step in the right direction for disabled people in the US.
If you are in the US and go to the link below, you can send a letter to your state reps in support of the bill. It takes 2 minutes to do!

the best time to grieve is when it spites the people who tell you not to
[ID: a 4-panel comic in medieval manuscript style of a person in blue sitting on a basket. /In 1 a person off-panel says: "What are you doing over there?" /2: That person comes on panel wearing yellow and helps Blue hold down the basket. Blue: "Trying to push down my grief about my illness" Yellow: "Have you tried platitudes?" /3: Blue yells at the basket: "'It could be worse!'" /4: A dragon pushes up the lid of the basket to yell: "It could be better" /end ID]
Complex trauma from abuse can cause chronic exhaustion, and chronic pain. This means the recovery, aside from being filled with guilt, shame and rage, will include long time spent in bed, feeling to exhausted and pained to move, or do anything.
This is happening because trauma is hard on the human body, and your body will spend all energy just trying to fight it, or repress it, or process it. The emotional pain of trauma being processed is enough to cause physical pain, chest pain, pain in all of your joints, headaches; your body will be so tense you can end up in chronic back pain and muscle pain just from all the tension and inability to relax. Your mind will be re-living the past and your body will react accordingly, getting terrified, shocked, tense, and finally showing all the damage you couldn’t feel when the abuse was happening. Even if you felt nothing while it was happening, there was no way to avoid this, your body can’t keep the trauma hidden inside of you forever.
One thing common for recovering victims is to feel intense shame for resting, for spending so much time in bed, feeling sick and worried about their future because they can’t get it together enough, or can’t get their tasks done due to pain and detachment from reality. You’ve all experienced being shamed for resting, being blamed for your own pain, and told you have no value if you’re not productive and hardworking. However, none of this applies to you right now. You need to rest. This rest is for survival. This is comparable to recovery from life-threatening injury, you cannot be expected to function or shamed for being lazy if your body is broken and barely hanging onto life. You are surviving, and you need rehabilitation and care, not feelings of inadequacy or shame for still daring to be alive.
It’s alright for you to exist just to rest only. In rare moments you do manage to get up, it’s okay to just do soothing non-productive stuff. There is no limit to how much care you need right now and you are obliged to give that to yourself. If the chronic exhaustion is caused by trauma, it will get better, not fast, not all at once, but slowly, during months and years, your body will let enough trauma out to allow you to use some of your energy for yourself. It’s vital you rest and let the trauma do its thing, and then eventually you will get your body back.
I need a 5 year vacation
Also, like I’ve said before, if any of you are disabled and want me to boost your donation posts, art or crafts, I’d be happy to!
let go of the idea that you have to be the best or do the most to be worth something.
I need some opinions
There’s a Skip the Dishes driver that I’ve gotten a couple time’s and I’ve realized that he’s hard of hearing so I want to learn how to say “thank you, have a good evening” in ASL but I’m worried that that might be like weird or offensive or something??? Idk it would just be super cool to hear the hard of hearing communities input on if that would be okay or not 😅😅
me: *craves love*
also me : loving me is impossible, don’t even try it, even if you tell me you do i won’t believe it

60% of covid deaths in uk have been disabled people. even young disabled people are dying from covid at up to 3x more. people with learning disabilities are getting dnr notices put on their record without consent. celebrities and government officials are arguing to let us keep dying to everyone else can go back to normal.
please, i am begging you, if you're not disabled, share news about this. kick up a fuss. be loud and angry and outraged with us.
and please check in on your disabled pals in the uk.
i don't want to die and have nobody care.

Attention, ADHDers who have a hard time brushing their teeth
Download Pokemon Smile. You don't need to know jack shit about (or even especially like) Pokemon to use it, and it is free. You only need a functional front-facing camera and the ability to read (or someone with you who can).
You pick a starter Pokemon and then, as you brush your teeth, the Pokemon battles purple plaque clouds in a little mouth setting for you. It uses your front-facing camera and some AR to see how you're brushing and tells you where to brush and for how long. It shows you yourself as you brush and puts a chosen hat on your head.
A wild Pokemon obscured by the clouds appears partway through and your Pokemon cleans it off as you brush.
At the end, it lets you throw a Pokéball in an effort to catch it, which you have an increasingly better chance at successfully doing the better and better you brush!
You also win little hats that get put on your head while you brush!
You can adjust settings for the amount of time it has you brushing, what hat you're wearing, and things like that. It is friendly to people of all ages and addresses that children should be surpervised. Best of all, when it asks for your gender at the very start, it has a "something else" option! It's trans- and nonbinary-friendly!
Anyway, download it. It's been EXTREMELY helpful for my QPP @awkward-blunt-miserableatbest and I.
government: you are not disabled because your symptoms dont keep you from having and holding a job
me: *is unable to function with anything less than 13 hours of sleep*
*passes out at random times during the day*
*cannot drive more than 15 minutes without getting dizzy and tired, endangering myself and others*
*cannot walk for more than 10 minutes at a time*
*constant flu-like symptoms*
*cannot keep track of objects, incredibly short attention span and short term memory is completely absent*
