mannn. i seriously won't get anything done when Moon Over Marin is playing in the background. other DK songs are fine, i'll either sing or dance along to them while i'm working on something, but Marin is just NOT one of them. that melody just pulls me away and makes me just want to lay down for a bit and stare into nothingness as i feel each beat and rhythm.
and i just did that now. seriously the best Dead Kennedys song ever. the outro is very fitting too, where the lady says "...and return to your jobs!" because i'm now gonna go back to whatever the hell i was working on 🫡 (while of course reminding myself not to listen to this song ever again in the middle of projects that require concentration)
there's that one clip of Nardwuar where he asks Jello how popular the Dead Kennedys were among women (or something along those lines) and he just grinned at him sarcastically before responding with "We were too nerdy."
there's something that comes to mind: the band playing their song Gaslight at the Deaf Club. a woman in the crowd says, "We wanna see some biceps, Biafra!"
now, what does Jello do after hearing this? does he comply and play along to it? does he come up with a witty remark? no. instead, he stays silent for a few seconds before yelling "GAAASLIIIGHT!!" at the top of his lungs. they play the entire song and we never hear from the woman again after that.
yeah. Too Nerdy indeed, as he put it. at least they played Have I The Right later on. no biceps were flexed, but hey, at least they played a love song.
