semi-related, but i also have a long drarry oneshot in the works... and by "the works" i mean i've finished the planning document. i only mention this here to say that HDEGH is currently my writing priority, and i'm only going to be working on the oneshot at times where i wouldn't be working on HDEGH anyways. just wanted to say that now so if you guys see me post about progress on the oneshot in the future, you know HDEGH is not on pause for it lmfao
i'm done writing for tonight - i have oneeee more scene to write for chapter 16, and it might be a long one! after that, i plan to make some minor edits for tone & pacing before it's ready to post

I can see Jack getting approached by a magical cosmetics line asking him to be a model. I'm not sure if he would reject it because he thinks it would be tacky or accept because of the large amount of gold he got from it.
It would be something hilarious like "narcissism by raquelle" but without him spraying himself in the eye.
he would absolutely accept it, and it would be his downfall because he would see 1 (one) advertisement featuring himself in the prophet and immediately turn into this:
seeing people say "this trope has been done to death" as if that's ever stopped anyone from eating bread. BREAD HAS BEEN DONE TO DEATH FOR LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF YEARS AND WE STILL WANT MORE BREAD. write your chosen one AU. write your coffee shop meet-cute. write your 47th iteration of "there was only one bed" because guess what??? we're still hungry.
If it wasnt a Jack/Harry ship, who do you consider pairing Jack up with?

my very first instinct reading this is to say luna. i’m already semi-interested in a few ships with her that have similar-ish dynamics to what i imagine a romantic jack and luna pairing would look like. a fic with that pairing would be a bit different though. jack’s perceived antagonism towards harry & co is a big part of the current and future dynamic, and jack just wouldn’t act the way he acts towards harry towards luna. plus, she wouldn’t interpret his actions and words quite the same way the golden trio do. similarly to the current status of harry/jack in the fic, it would be mostly one-sided slowburn until Things happen later on.
this one is a bit strange, so hear me out - moving on from that first instinct thought of “luna,” i think that if this fic somehow took the shape of jack becoming conscious in the diary in the 1970s, jack/snape could be a lot of fun. current adult snape literally can not stand jack and jack doesn’t like snape at all either, but in an AU set in a different time i think this could be an interesting premise. i think the only way snape would ever be able to meet jack and not want to punch him in the face is if snape was his teenage self. it would also give me an excuse to write for lily, who is one of my top 5 favorite characters!!
^^ the current premise of the fic, at least in terms of everyone and everyone thinking jack is either some plotting evil mastermind or at least a teenager with a dark legacy and questionable intentions, is largely derived from that primary dynamic of “harry thinking voldemort has a son who wants to kill him," and while that would still be present in a fic with a different pairing, it’s really bolstered by it being a harry/jack fic. when i write, relationship dynamics really affect the overall concept of the work as a whole, so a fic with a different relationship is just going to look different!

HDEGH in its final form is essentially an amalgamation of tropes i really like and always find myself looking for in harry potter fics. when i went into the initial planning stage for this fic, i was basically setting out to write a very, very self indulgent fic where the target audience was me.
there were a few proto-HDEGH fics that i half-heartedly planned before i landed on the ideas and premise you see in the final product. i ended up writing first chapters for two of them as pilots for myself to see how i felt about them - but HDEGH was the one that really struck all of those chords i loved, and that was when i really dove into planning!
in general, i really enjoy fics where the premise is essentially “character goes undercover/is not entirely honest about their identity and, in trying to connect the dots, other characters come to the conclusion that they are evil and/or specifically a death eater.” it’s very specific, but this was veryyyy common in the HP crossover fics i was reading on fanfic dot net as a kid - for years, i wouldn’t read any other kind of fanfiction!
nowadays i really like tropes such as identity porn, time travel, and reincarnation. many of the situations and dynamics you’ll find in fics with those tags are pretty similar to many of the things you can find in HDEGH. if i like it, it’s in there! the “character assumed to be voldemort’s child and treated accordingly” thing is something i loveeeee but is a little more obscure, and that obscurity is part of the reason i wanted to write this fic.
jack’s character in particular was inspired by a certain genre of vapid male reality TV personality. i knew i wanted a “voldemort’s child” misunderstanding, and while planning HDEGH i naturally settled on a bitchy protagonist because it felt like the best way to ensure someone who, to children assuming the worst of him, could consistently behave antagonistic in a way that fits their preconceptions and reinforces the misunderstanding. i think a meeker protagonist just anxiously fumbling themselves into situations where they seem like the bad guy could be an interesting and funny premise, but it just wasn’t what i wanted to go for in terms of the humor for this fic. plus, it’s just a lot of fun to write a character like jack!
i can’t exactlyyyy answer your question about what’s happening after jack’s seventh year as to avoid Spoilers with a capital S. however, i can assure you that jack will remain directly involved with our canon cast in the story moving forward!
