Steve was frozen in place for the entire duration of the song. He hadn’t even noticed her look at him, if he had he probably would have blushed or looked anyway in embarrassment. It had been a long time since Steve had heard this song. Even during the war it had been sometime since he’d had access to anything that played it and since he’s been back he’s been too focused on listening to new music than to go back to the songs he loved from his time.
When the song eventually ended Steve didn’t know what to do. He wanted to go over and speak to the girl, tell her how wonderful her performance was. But deep down he was still just a shy kid, how could he just go over and speak speak her? So he rose to his feet, with the intention of leaving. But just as he stood up he saw a large man staggering over to the woman. His words were slurred and his tone harsh.
That did not sit well with Steve at all. He could see the man reach for her, but Steve made moved quick to stop that from happening. Grabbing the mans wrist before he could make contact with her in anyway. “The young woman just perfectly performed a lovely song, why don’t you show her the respect she deserves?” The man turned and almost immediately threw a punch Steve’s way. What followed was rather predictable. Steve ducked the punch, grabbed the man by the collar, turned him away from the woman and knocked him out cold. By this point his hat had fallen and the whole club was very aware of who he was.
But Steve didn’t care, his only focus was making sure she was okay. “Hey, are you alright? He didn’t hurt you did he?” He said in a calm but concerned tone to the young woman.
Alison would describe herself as a tough girl. She had never had issues sticking up for herself before. Drunk men who didn’t know that know meant no, however... They were a whole other business. This man was particularly large as well as handsy. She tried to slip away from him, but before she had too much trouble, a man stepped in.
A smile set on her lips briefly, before it quickly disappeared as the first punch was thrown. Then the second. When his hat fell she was a little surprised to realize who the man was and a little embarrassed that she hadn’t realized it sooner.
“N-No. I’m fine... He didn’t hurt me,” she replied, her tone soft as she looked up at him.
