Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again.
Actually, this is a total lie, I think my dream had some kind of vampires in it and I've never read Rebecca. That's probably a terrible admission to start a book blog with, isn't it?
So: hello! This is the introductory/bio post about me, because while you don't necessarily need to know anything about a book reviewer, it's always nice to have the option, isn't it?
I'm Jennifer Juniper; one of those is my real name, one of those isn't, but I'll let you pick which one is which. You can call me Jenn Juniper, anyway. I'm in my twenties, a Londoner and a - mainly children's - bookseller, though I won't say where or for whom in the hope that I remain employed. I have about two-thirds of an English Lit/History degree that's currently on quite lengthy hiatus. I also have clinical depression, which is super fun and not really inconvenient at all. If you run into me while I'm at work, you'll know me because I'll be wearing brightly-coloured nail polish or over-the-knee socks, or, most likely, both.
I spend far too much time attached to my iPhone - named Aphra after Aphra Behn, who was frankly excellent - and, unlike a lot of booksellers, I do own a Kindle Paperwhite, called Howl.
I have over 200 books piled up in my living room waiting to be read, and don't get me started on how many I've also got on my kindle. I like to be surrounded by books, but this is all starting to get a little bit ridiculous.
Finally, the important bits:
My favourite book of all time is: A constant battle between Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. I just cannot choose.
If I could be any fictional character, I would be: Becky Sharp from Vanity Fair.
My favourite Austen hero is: I wish I could say Knightley, but it has always, always been Darcy.
If I could live in any fictional universe, I would live in: It's a toss-up, really, between the one in The Eyre Affair (who doesn't want to get in and out of their favourite books?) or maybe Discworld, because I really do love Ankh Morpork.
My favourite Hunger Games character is: Cinna.
My favourite Harry Potter character is: Remus Lupin.
I wish that I could write like: Andrew Miller.
I'll put more of these in here as and when they occur to me!
If you want to contact me, I have an ask box, and I'm also available at [email protected]
