In A Foster Home, Two Boys Become 'Kinda Like Brothers'

Before Coe Booth was a writer, she was a caseworker, often tasked with placing kids with foster families. Her latest novel for middle-grade readers looks at two young members of a foster family.

Kendra by Coe Booth - She is the best writer in YA. I’d argue she belongs in conversations for one of the best writers in literature period.

Tyrell by Coe Booth - See above

Paper Towns by John Green - Green is a bit divisive, but he is smart, funny, and teens love him. This is my personal fave (of his).

First Part Last by Angela Johnson - Beautiful and tender

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart - It’s clever without being annoying. Plus, Frankie is just AMAZING.

Boy Toy by Barry Lyga - Dark, edgy, heartfelt. Lyga is challenging without being pandering or condescending.

Silver Phoenix by Cindy Pon - She should be the biggest author in the world. She is nice and engages with fans. Plus, her lush world-building and character-rich stories make her one of the few fantasy writers I want to read.

This is not a Test by Courtney Summers - This is, personally, one of the most important books I have ever read. Sloane! Just Sloane!

Runaways by Brian K Vaughan - A group of teen’s find out their parents are superheroes. What’s not to love? Some of the richest characterizations of teens in literature. Plus, the eventual villain is still my favorite character and one of the most surprising plot twists I have ever encountered.
