girugamesh about their very last mini-album “chimera”

VKH: What was your original goal when you produced your most recent album chimera?

Яyo: Since the day we debuted, we always put more and more meaning in our songs and had certain mottos like for example “Konoyaro!” (F*** you!) or “Bukkoroshiteyaru!” (I will kill you!). Now that 12 years have passed we wanted to express those negative and aggressive feelings from an adult perspective and thus compare our current emotions to our earlier and more childlike ones. So the goal was to show this development too. Hence, the themes of chimera are negativism, complexes, and anger.

VKH: Can you explain more particularly why you chose such dark themes for the song “chimera” and its music video?

Яyo: We have been a visual kei band for a very long time. Back in 2014, we wanted to try many new things to somehow cross that field of what is considered visual kei. So in a way, we wanted to stay the visual band we are but also become an ordinary rock band at the same time.

Since the time we chose this path we basically kept on working with the notion of saying: “We don’t give a f*** if our band is considered a normal rock band instead of a visual band!”. Unfortunately, no one seemed to understand the new way we chose and the new music we produced, so this angered us a lot. Additionally, our new looks also met with criticism in Japan.

We really didn’t know what to do back then, so naturally we got very angry. And in the end, all those memories were the reason why we chose such a gloomy theme for the song “chimera” and its music video. Originally published on VKH in May 2016. girugamesh TOUR 2016 “鵺-chimera-” in EUROPE 2016/05/27, Aschaffenburg (European last live)

girugamesh was one of the few bands I’ve always been listening to and I was a fan from the very beginning on. They never got boring, reinvented themself. After being a fan of them for 10 years now, seeing 7 concerts of which every single minute was fun, singing along as loud as you can, jumping, head banging and going totally crazy, travelling to Berlin, Bochum, Aschaffenburg or Munich just to attend their concerts and the adventures on those trips, seeing them grow and getting more and more popular and making a lot of new friends every single time, it’s really hard to accept that there will never be a new announcement of a EU tour, no looking forward to the concerts, no new singles or albums. However, I’m really happy I discovered them a decade ago. If they made the decision to part ways, it’s probably the best for the band and the members. I wish them all the best and hope they will continue chasing their dreams like they always did and find their right path. Thank you for the great time together, we will never forget you. Finally I found some time to write personal stuff about the girugamesh disbanding. I mean… I saw them 2 weeks ago but… well.. however. Let’s go! At first I wanna thank the whole girugamesh fandom! I’ve never met a fandom like this. Nobody is a bitch like “I met them 3 times, I’m better thank you. I have all CDs bla bla bla…” and you can cry and laugh together, even if you met 2 minutes ago. I think it’s because the fans and band don’t take themself really seriously. I mean… have you ever seen offshots or backstage videos? I mean… come on… You can’t take that band serious. At the concert itself I saw, that everybody has a song who makes them start crying or laughing. It was like I could feel their feelings behind that song. Everybody has a story behind their favorite song. My favorite songs are, like for the most I think, “Break down” (which was my first song), “Owari to mirai”, “Zecchou BANG!”, “Incomplete” and, of course, “Evolution”. And the PVs are always great! I love them! I could watch them forever. Also I could always listen to their music. Of course, everybody has their favorite song, but even if you stop listining for e.g. 2 years and start again: it feels like you never leave. The feelings coming back, the memories, everything. Even if Girugamesh say “we are not VK anymore (or not so much), we make Rock / Metal”, I sayed it’s okay. Do whatever you want, I will follow you if it’s still great and you are still Girugamesh. And it works.

It’s really sad that their break up now and I could still cry, but I think they will come back. Even if not, if their follow there dreams I will still support them. But a comeback would be nice, of course ;) Girugamesh will never leave us. They will be there forever.
