An Agile Business Operation
A top performing business in the current economic environment has to be an agile business. There is a need for the business to have the capability of rapidly and efficiently adapting to changes.
Being able to identify those changes and determining which ones can be adapted & then, of course, which ones should be adopted for your business, is an important task in a competitive business world. The question should be asked: Is the adaptation going to benefit my business? If it is, then the process needs to begin to determine how it can be implemented for maximum advantage, with least impact to the current operations.
Systems, processes and people all need to work together to make that adaptation. If they can’t – if there is a disconnect – then a decision has to be taken about whether the change is worth it, and what has to change in order for the adaptation to work.
That can be a tough call, if it involves a potential “separation” between old & new. The one to make that determination is the business owner, being aware of all the possible consequences and weighing those up as part of the decision-making process!
There should be minimal disruption to the product or service delivery of the business whilst the implementation is underway. It should be as seamless as possible from the point of view of clients and end-users, so that the ‘brand’ is not unduly impacted by delays caused by ‘improvements’.
The other critical element in implementing any change to the systems, processes &/or products of any business is a sense of confidence in the people charged with implementing the change. They need to have the skills & confidence that the change is going to be of benefit to 1) the business, 2) them as individuals and 3) the clients with whom they interact.
To ensure they have those skills & confidence there needs to be a program of skill development (or skill acquisition). A consistent (&, indeed, constant) program of quality training is required which will enable them to be champions of the cause.
Many examples of great products, systems and processes lie abandoned because those charged with ensuring the effective rollout were not subscribers to the benefits of the change. Great products will fail, if they have not been ‘sold’ to those who have to ‘sell’ them. That is the fatal flaw in some great product/service innovations over the years.
The success of any new product/service, as well as the process for introducing it to the market should be able to be measured – a key element in being able to determine the success, or otherwise, of the innovation.

Come Visit us at AREC and AREL!
Well, we are coming up to Real Estate Conference season, and I am pleased to announce that myself and the team from myrealestatetraining.com.au will be attending two major events this year.
The first one is AREL - "Play a Smarter Game" which will be held in Melbourne from the 15 - 16 May. AREL is Australia's newest real estate industry conference and is focused on real estate intelligence for serious sales growth. Featuring: Bob Wolff (USA), Richard Flint (USA), Richard Robbins (Canada) and 11 top Australian real estate experts. V
We are also excited to be attending AREC on the 22nd and 23rd of May. Over 2,500 industry professionals attend AREC each year – no other real estate event in the world attracts such a large percentage of the total industry population. Now in its 14th year, AREC is THE biggest independent real estate conference and trade exhibition in our region and unique in the world. If you've seen the advertising you'll know that Rudi Guiliani will be speaking and I am really looking forward to seeing that.
Oh, and I cant say what just yet, but we do have a couple of surprises for you, so book your tickets and come and see us! There will never be a better time to book some additional training, or find out about getting your Real Estate Licence. Stay Tuned....
Time to kill of Real Estate Cliches?
Read a really interesting post on Business2's blog the other day about the use of cliches ads....particularly as they relate to the increased use of video in property listings. Brett Clements says:
When dealing with a medium as relatively new to real estate as ‘video’, its application demands a big re-think around dialogue. Voice-Overs. And presentation to camera.
You see. Viewers ‘can see’ it is a kitchen.
When you are dealing with the "written word" its really easy to go overboard on the cliches and descriptive phrases. But more and more writing "experts" are saying that if you cant say what you have written out loud and have it sound natural, then you need to rethink your words. Believe me, this would take a lot of cliches out of the Real Estate vernacular.
You can read the full post here, and we recommend you do; it does give you a good few pointers on how you might tackle your first video if you havent already. We are interested to know what you think on the subject of cliches - leave us a comment!

Every now and then you get one of these "nuggets" and Mashable have gathered a list of their top ten very funny tweets.

5 keys to generating high quality referrals
Sales 101. Build a relationship, close the sale, then ask for three referrals. Its definitely what you are advised to do if you're in Real Estate Sales. All very well and good, but often using this approach the referrals that you receive may not be so hot! According to Paul McCord in the popular sales blog "Eyes on Sales"...
...there are a few salespeople and business owners who have found a way to not only generate more than just a few referrals, but somehow they manage to generate enough high quality referrals to run very successful sales practices almost exclusively from the referrals they receive from their clients.
Do they have some great secret the rest of us don't know?
In a sense, they do know something most of us don't. They've learned that what most of us are doing to get referrals—just asking a question such as, "Ms. Client, do you know of anyone else that I might help"—doesn't work.
Moreover, they have learned ways that do work.
If you would like to supercharge your referral strategies from lukewarm to superhot, you need to take a look at the full article by clicking here.
Ways to spice up your job
I was intrigued this week by a post on bnet.com entitled 3 ways to spice up a boring job. The title was the first thing to interest me (not because my job is boring!), but purely out of interest as to how to rectify the situation if your job is. I was really impressed to learn that the basic recommendations were:
1. Ask for more responsibility
2. Ask for more education
3. Look at Self Education
Wow, someone completely on our wavelength! Why should you look at education if you are not so scintillated by your current role? Because education is never wasted and can always take you places. For example, complete a Real Estate Course of some sort now, and even if it doesnt help you in your current role, it may do so in the future. Education stimulates the brain and makes life more interesting. And if you happen to join a course, you can expand your network and meet other people.
Spice up your current role and visit myrealestatetraining.com.au today!
Prepare to be uncertain - BRW article
“Over and over in the history of predictions it isn't one expert who tries and fails to predict the future. It’s whole legions of experts.” This is in a brilliant BRW article (3-9 March, 2011) Prepare to be uncertain.
The article talks about how we tend to rely on the advice of experts, even when they have been wrong in the past, and we know they're wrong now - but we still feel the comfort of their "expertise".
Real estate agents can be like that, too, looking to have all the data at their disposal, when sometimes their local knowledge speaks against the information issued by the "experts". Being able to handle that is important when dealing with clients who have done some research, but might not have all the local information.
The article talks about "experience" and "expertise" - at BPG we try to ensure experience counts when dealing with our clients. Most agents would like to think their experience in their local area is worth at least as much as the expertise of those providing the statistical data in the media.
